May 1975 some teachers and students in Tvind started to build a 54 meters tall "real" windmill - that still is making electricity - today 900 kW.

I went there about 1980. I learnt so much from them. Been back a few years ago.

Nice give away brother the issue with this project you need to check the wind map before trying to build this windmill if you have a wind speed 10 meter/second average all year also you need to check this speed in your house after you need to get a low rpm low torque generator to get benefits from low speed wind .you need also a special charger that keep the voltage stable to desired charging voltage is like MPPT charger .and voila you cut your electric bill

Generating electricity?

I believe it could be made more efficient by having the central axis such that half of each barrel overlap, perhaps a bit less than half. This would reduce mass displacement (like a ballerina) but also allow the air flow to drive counter-rotation, as the air traveling in the direction of the facing blade would generate additional force as it comes around and is directed against the opposing fin before flowing out. The transmission/spring system may also be a problem. if you can commute the rotation with minimal resistance and slippage, this would greatly aid in low-wind conditions. A flywheel system may also be an interesting addition, conserve some rotation (but costly..). Another idea is having no commutation at all and have the power generator sit the end of the shaft. Eager to try this myself! There are presently, far-more compact commercial/fundable projects/solutions. They sit closer to the ground, some are apparently more bird safe in design. Can't recall how their output was though, or if they mentioned most ideal candidate locations for average wind speed as a parameter unfortunately.

could be worse, I've had to emergancy tack weld on a truck while out on the road with a diesel battery and jumper cables and a stick! it worked and held long enough to make it back to the shop

Wasn't it in Turkey that they used towers with a slot cut window that would allow only the loaded blade to be exposed. A wind brake panel could be installed to shield the unloaded blade. If angled properly possible lift could be created? Not 100% but it would make it somewhat more efficient.

@@timothylongmore7325 the idea here is it functions as an omnidirectional generator; it has the advantage of not needing to turn into the wind to generate power. it can work with wind coming at it from any direction. the other advantage is it can be easily made from easily obtainable scrap found in any wasteland, think post-apocalypse scenario, there will be plenty of dead cars to salvage parts from very handy if you need to generate expedient power and don't have access to fancier tech, like solar panels or gas powered generators. (you can tack weld using car batteries, jumper cables and a welding stick. not recommended, but it works!)

@@rickcoona8368 All good points. My thought was based on where I live. We have a prevailing wind out of the SW and a wind mill of this type shielded would be a little more efficeint. Most likely the tower mills I mentioned earlier were probably oriented in a similar way.

@@timothylongmore7325 sounds good these DO work and are easy to set up in an emergency or after a disaster around my neck of the woods we get fairly consistent night winds so that could be very useful Also,did you know you can collect gallons of water with a plastic tarp, a few fiberglass garden stakes (the thick ones) and a few 5 gallon buckets set the tarp on an incline with the bucket at the bottom, one good soaker and you will have several 5 gallon buckets (or whatever container you want to use) of good rainwater.

@@rickcoona8368 Good tip. We live in the country and have a dug well. We've run out of water 3 times in the 30 I've lived here. Two of those in the last 8 years. I'm not in a traditionally arid area. Quite the contrary. So water catchment is always on my mind. Also the way my house is situated I kind of have a wind tunnel between my house and garage and a wind turbine of this type , tight up against the garage , would double the prevailing wind force acting on it. I'm east of lake Ontario on Tug Hill and we have a constant prevailing wind due to lake effect. I'm a timber framer by trade and have always wanted to build a Dutch style windmill , lol. Probably never happen but I've been studying on it.

Yes get a rod heating oven plug it in to your generator make Shure the are hot before using and a stronger generator more than 8kva and bend your rod to the right angel before striking an arc AND watch movie "welding for beginners"
