This guy measuring you by gym status is a person who is status-related. It's interesting for me to "meet" people who already "know" who I am and what I do, but they want to act like they hold some secret, when I'm just me. Get to know ME! But being in the entertainment industry, I have ALWAYS introduced myself to FAMOUS PEOPLE because just because I know their names doesn't mean I KNOW them, so they appreciate a real hello and a real introduction. AS GAY MEN, we look @ types and THINK WE ALREADY KNOW EACH OTHER based on base things, instead of the individual. I meet the individual.
Needed and necessary conversation! We have struggled in so many ways to BUILD COMMUNITY + FRIENDSHIPS because we have internalized the idea that we are only sexual beings but not social with each other. My bestie of 30 years was also a Black gay man, but many people thought we were partners. I was also so shook by it because I would have been proud to acknowledge a 30 year relationship! We weren't partners because we met at church and he was 5 years younger than me and I have another gay brother, who was only 2 years younger than me. And so he folded into the family amazingly. So we were clear about our relationship and the POWER OF IT and our friendship and our brotherhood! We often don't know how to be friends if we are "attractive" because we either sisterfy or sexualize each other. I love great company and great conversation and such. THIS CONVERSATION IS GREAT!
I love this! And i love how you had the conversation on exactly what you and your best friend wanted the relationship to be. I also have a best friend who is gay and he is literally my brother! He knows me better than anyone!
