Theres a couple reasons why.Houses r expensive due to high demand of houses and low supply.Second they are built out of wood because its cheaper and more fast to build.A pallet of brick (500 bricks)Is like 1k and takes longer.Third the US has a High supply of wood

It's not the home so much as the roof. Here in Houston where we deal with a lot of hurricanes, a majority of damage is from falling trees and ceilings collapsing from water, so until the roof is the main protector without falling on the occupants and can sustain a tree falling on it, building with bricks VS wood does not matter.
@mbmart2005
@mbmart2005 18 дней назад
The solution is easy. Build concrete homes with concrete roof just like those precast concrete homes. But remember counties don't like that because they don't get $ for permits for repairs plus the Home Depot and others will loose $.

Why don't you build reinforced concrete structured building
@beyondfossil
@beyondfossil 28 дней назад
The reason is likely enormous cost for a single detached home to go that route. But there is a way one can get reinforced concrete construction without costing an arm & a leg: just buy a unit in a high-rise condo! Seriously, I'd get a condo unit if I really had to live a hurricane prone area. This gives greatest chance of protecting life and property. High rise buildings are indeed made of steel and reinforced concrete since you can benefit from economies of scale and such large buildings need that strength anyways. The height will save your property from storm surge. Unfortunately, Americans are too hung up on single detached homes which are bad for the environment and contribute to urban sprawl. Detached homes also use up a lot of energy because of high surface area. We can see detached homes are very prone to being ripped up by hurricanes and tornadoes. As extreme weather continues to ramp up over the next few decades, single detached homes in these areas will be uninsurable for 95+% of people shortly. Urban life in such areas will be forced into condos. Look at places like Asia where condo living is the standard, and that may be arriving to US en mass within the span of the next 30 to 50 years. You have to adapt or die.
@FordRangerClassics

@SheriKeenan
@SheriKeenan 19 дней назад
Don’t use wood have concrete brick or rock walls have a metal roof bolt it down. Have home on strong stilts or build a hill to put the home on so it’s 3 to 5 feet higher then the landscape around it so it’s much less likely to flood but still have a full normal concrete foundation slab. He’ll reducing the amount of concrete and asphalt by 20% in towns and cities and replacing it with native plants and trees with lots of available soil will reduce flooding as it now has a place to go the soil also plants and trees slow the fall of water so will reduce flooding as well.

Well, it's already a hurricane/storm prone area, it should've been concrete to begin with when you talk about housing. On the other hand, climate change and global warming has already been an issue for eon...we need to be firm and start doing something beneficial for the environment and not too much urbanization and making the area too🎉 commercial. There should be a fine line on what not to touched anymore. We also need to plant more trees in the mountains and forest.

Its better not to live in a hurricane states, the power of nature and cataclysms, no building materials, fortifications won't hold back, especially wind and water this power will not hold back anything, especial plastic, carton materials, and since the climate is warming up, powerful hurricanes will come often. In a changing climate home insurances companies will not be able to make a profit from frequent disasters, and the home insurances will be a huge problem especially in hurricane states.

Where you gonna live? Try living in areas that are ABOVE 15' above MSL. Then try living in buildings that are BEYOND tree fell range. And there's only two states that are NOT in an earthquake zone and one of those is Florida (the other one is South Dakota). A lotta states West of the Mississippi are also prone to wildfires. And the mid section of the country is tornado alley. You may wanna try living on a sailboat (and get atta dodge when a nasty spinner is approaching). Or maybe living in an RV. You could also live underground I knew someone years ago that did that. This was in Fort Lauderdale.
