A question was asked about building corners on Styrene builds. I decided to create a How to to show a few methods to achieve this. There are multiple different ways to accomplish the goal, but here are a few of them.
You gave me ideas for a hollow shape. Sanding a wood piece to the shape, but with a wide lip as a base. Then positioning with clamps bent styrene pieces and glue them together to curves. The same for the round square shapes. When dry strong the glued styrene then remove the excess from the lips. I think it would work. I been thinking of an idea for years without using a vacuforming tecnique.
It is a Gator brand sanding pad. Their system uses a micro velcro on the pad and the paper. Best thing I ever got for building bodies. I use Tamiya putty in this video.
I get it from Amazon. There are many plastic retailers which also sell it, if you want to look locally. The stuff at the local hobby shops is cray expensive and only comes in small sheets. The little pieces they sell are nice though.
I use clear PVC cleaner as the solvent and CA as a backer. The CA also helps "clamp" the parts together until the solvent glue can fully harden back up.
@@wesmadebuilds681 thanks for the speedy response.. just not sure what you mean by CA .. im new to styrene building and I live in the Netherlands and some styrene glue are band form here so if you could please give me some more details on the glues.. thank you
CA is short for Cyanoacrylate glue, otherwise known as Super Glue/Krazy Glue. The CA is used as a backer to support corners from the back side. Styrene is bonded together by melting the two pieces and pressing them together. Most brand name solvent glues have the same active ingredients as clear PVC cleaner, which typically can be found in hardware stores. Just make sure both pieces have a tight fit and apply the solvent (PVC Cleaner) and it will melt the two pieces. When they dry they are bonded together. You can use store bought Styrene glue but it comes in small bottles and is expensive. Clear PVC cleaner is dirt cheap and comes in large bottles.
