I love the look of satisfaction on your face when you picked up the door and it worked. There is nothing like self accomplishment and gratification when you make something and it works and is functional. Good job.

I have been a builder for over 30 years and really enjoyed watching you construct this shed from your own ideas learning as you go to make it better. I taught myself everything I know about building and continually learn as there are always different and sometimes better ways to build things. You rocked this build, thanks for sharing!

Dude, you rock! I have long been one to "engineer on the fly", but I am impressed. You have skills. And you did it on the ground with a few tools! It's reassuring to folks who don't have the Norm Abrams/Tom Silva workshops and tool collections that one can still turn out a functional and well-built project. And Bailey is a real sweetheart! I think she would get along great with my pittie, Riley (whose name was Bailey for one day till my wife changed her mind!)

I’m gonna build a similar shed but just bigger overall but for the flip doors (both doors) I’m gonna use gas struts, they should hold as long as the doors are not ridiculously heavy. I think instead of 2x4 you can switch to 1x2 for the doors only with the 1/4” plywood. Struts from SUV’s found at the local junkyard should do the trick.

First off, I'm from the future 2021 when lumber costs an arm and a leg. So you probably will be taking the shed with you, Ekkkkkkk! Nice "temporary " shed. I need to build something similar but with lumber being so outrageous these days a plastic shed might be cheaper though not near as fun and customizable. Very nicely done John. PS: thank you for not blowing my ears off with the music. A vast majority of the people that do videos these days seem to think it's funny to blast their music at 2 to 3 times the volume of their speaking voice. If one adjusts the volume down for the music, you can't hear the speaking and if you adjust for the speaking your hearing is damaged by the music blasting.

@normbograham3
@normbograham3 3 года назад
The end 2x4's, for the walls, get doubled, or you nail three scraps to each, and then nail another 2x4 (2x4, 2x4 scraps, 2x4), this gives you better corners, for attaching the other wall. I've NEVER heard of using 1/4 inch plywood as sheathing. Where are your rafters? You should have doubled the top plate, for several reasons.
@gregt722
@gregt722 3 года назад
It’s a 4x8 shed, not a dwelling. No need for rafters, it’s a ribbed steel roof spanning 4 feet. Double the top plate? No need, it’s supporting light sheet metal roof. 1/4 plywood is fine for A shed. If anything I think he over built with 16 on centre instead of 24. I agree with everything you said if he were building a cabin or tiny home.

I'm sorry but I don't get it. If what you were after was a shed that opened up so you wouldn't be cramped inside a closet, instead of the flip-up door why not a sliding barn door -- easier to do, still opens up the space, and you can store things in the bays between the studs.
