This guy is one of the best modern drum teachers! For any of those who don’t know and are unsure, trust me! I’m almost 50 years old I’ve been playing drums most of my life and this guy is the epitome of an excellent drummer and excellent teacher. In fact, I believe he’s one of the best teachers of his generation.

You’re describing a Vamp,, soloing over a vamp- Hits or Kicks are accented notes that the drummer catch’s often with the snare but occasionally with the bass drum- originally coming into play in big band music but now often with guitar music since it’s been dominant for so many years-- can there be ‘hits’ inside a vamp- ?- well yeah which is what you’ve fooling around with-- lets keep the nomenclature clear-- you are soloing over a vamp using the ‘hits’---
