Questions are welcomed. Parts are listed in part 2. Just pause, it’s all on screen. The custom bits are made by RAF Camera. Contact him and reference this video. He will know what parts you need. You’ll have to tell him the diameter of your taking lens though. They have different dims.

Amazing lenses! How do I learn how to do this? lol.. but seriously.... and what is called when the fall off on the edges isn't linear?
@team2films
@team2films 2 года назад
Oooo... good question! I'm not sure. I think the decrease in sharpness as you move away from the lens centre is called fall-off. Not to be confused with roll-off which is how the image defocuses as you move away from the plane of focus. Check out Panavision's 5 pillars of the anamorphic look.

Hi, how do you screw your close up diopter in front of the FVD-35A ? Thanks
@team2films
@team2films 2 года назад
Not using diopters at the moment. You could attach them via a matte box and a drop in adapter if needed though. Alternatively, you could get a step down ring. The front of the FVD-35A is threaded. Raf Camera could manufacturer you a custom one if needed.

How to build your own anamorphic lens: Step 1: Buy an anamorphic lens 😂😂😂 Stupid video premise
@team2films
@team2films 4 месяца назад
The DIY anamorphic community is quite large. Before affordable anamorphics hit the market, it was the only way for many to experience anamorphic. Even now though there are reasons to build your own. By combining different anamorphic and spherical blocks you can get really beautiful and unique looks that no one else has. Remember, you can buy a car. But there's still lots of enthusiasts out there who want to build their own. And in many scenarios, those custom cars can do things that the pre-made ones can't. Thanks for watching.

If you can buy FDV, RAPIDO, then with that price you can buy a full blown anamorphic lens.

Not quite! There are lots of budget 1.33x squeeze (and similar) lenses, but 2x lenses are still quite expensive. Prices are definitely coming down though.

Great tutorial, but how do you control the light without having the iris lens
@lbarnard86
@lbarnard86 3 года назад
Thanks. Good question. I control the light with ND filters. Changing the iris affects the depth of field, so even on lenses with iris's, I tend to use an ND to control exposure.
@aquardespakpahan4679
@aquardespakpahan4679 3 года назад
@@lbarnard86 Thanks for the answer, I was thinking will be the ND filter. How many stop of ND filter did you use in the daylight?
@team2films
@team2films 3 года назад
@@aquardespakpahan4679 I can't remember exactly off hand, but it was likely somewhere around 6 stops. I was using a Polar Pro Basecamp matte box system with a VariND. I have both the 2-5 and the 6-9 stop and always seem to be on the edge of either. My camera's native ISO is 800

@@team2films Thanks for your help. OK maybe two questions: 1. I have a similar lens (Schneider Cinelux Anamorphic WA x2 with a 70mm cinelux) and I'm wondering why put a clamp in the middle since the two were originally already assembled in the beginning ? 2. Normally, it seems that people that add Single focus are able to adjust the focus on the anamorphic lens and taking lens to infinity. How do you adjust you focus on your taking lens in your video ? Do I need a single focus since my anamorphic lens come with a focusable ring ? Thanks again, really appreciate your answers !
@team2films
@team2films 2 года назад
@@emmanuelrobin5872 1. The clamp in the middle serves two purposes. It helps to reduce the overall length of the lens by getting the taking and anamorphic closer than would be possible with the original adapter. It also makes it easier to align the anamorphic lens once the spherical has been focused. 2. The focus mechanism on your cinelux anamorphic is just for focusing the anamorphic lens. The spherical still needs to be focused separately. Hence the preference for a single focus system. The focus on the spherical is achieved by setting the flange distance correctly (pushing it closer to or further away from the sensor. Hence when buying an EF adapter from RAF, you need an idea of your flange distance first so you can make sure the adapter is long/short enough.

Pause at 4:43 to see the parts. You can but the gold parts on eBay! The focuser comes from Rapido Technologies. The connecting parts are from a fantastic website called RafCamera. Unfortunately home made anamorphic are all bespoke. So, it's difficult to provide fool proof instructions. Hopefully this video will serve as some inspiration for you to begin your own journey though!

Question...Is the part you threaded onto your focus at 2:36 (which you attach you matte box to at 8:18) a custom piece or can it be bought online? awesome look and build! thanks for sharing! is it practical in a real shooting environment to have 2.0 lens without the ability to change the depth of field? is it 47mm on a FF sensor?
@team2films
@team2films 2 года назад
f/2 is practical enough. The 47mm is wide enough to have quite a naturally deep depth of field anyway. The size of the lens probably creates more limitations. The image circle does not cover FF. That's not a limitation of the spherical or anamorphic lens. That's actually vignetting from the FVD.
