Kiln dried pine is expensive these days plus it's harder to stick hatchets. Try 2x10 untreated poplar or cottonwood. In my case I made an endgrain target made of 6x6 blocks. Lasts longer than planks and in my case that's 2-4 boards per week with as much as I throw.

That's awesome, it's so much fun! Yes, we used the standard pressure treated pine boards from Lowe's.

Use cotton wood it’s the best for axe throwing I think

How do you replace the boards ?
@zach804

So if you have 5 10 inch boards and cut 24 inches for the back it only covers half of the board? Just wasted a 10ft piece listening to this 👀 need to cut the 2x6x8 50 inches wide to cover the back...

You should consider an end grain throwing target they last so much longer!

End grain is great for knives... axes, not so much.

Do you just replace the board when it gets too damaged? How long did it last?

I’d assume so, but curious to their response
@briannefoster6892

Yes, that’s what we plan to do. We haven’t replaced it yet, but it’s definitely ready. It took about 1 month of consistent throwing until there wasn’t much left of the bullseye.

Brianne Foster is it easy to replace? Wouldn’t you have to build a whole new one feet and all?

Each board is screwed in from the back to hold in place, so just unscrew the screws in which ever board you want to replace, pop the board out, new board in, put screws back in to hold board

When you get good, you can destroy a board in about an hour. I go to the axe throwing places and I'll destroy the boards in an hour of being there. But, I throw a lot and I don't really take breaks either. I test different distances and force with the axes while there. I personally use tomahawks and knives at home. The last time I went, I put one of the axes through the board. I had to change axe throwing stations. If you throw a lot, look into an end grain throwing target. They take a bit more to build, but last a lot longer. Also wet the boards before you begin throwing, it makes them last a bit longer.

Kobalt hatchets from Lowes. Not sure that they meet regulation for league throwing but they work for us!

What type of wood do we need?
@tomknapp6194
@tomknapp6194 Год назад
Pine is readily available in most hardware stores, but it really doesn't make a good target. If you can get your hands on cottonwood or poplar, those both will last longer and easier to throw into them. Also, keep the targets wet. That helps them to last longer.
