Great video, this will be very helpfull for me. You seem to know what you are doing so I would like to ask for your opinion. I’m thinking to use a setup like this to power portable Arduino projects for longer periods of time but I would prefer to cut off the load at a voltage of about 3V instead of 2.5V as used in the protection board. I’ve wondered why all the protection boards cut off at 2.5V instead of 2.9V like most batteries require but apparently that has to do with the voltage drop during high loads and cutting of at 2.5V makes sure the power doesn’t shut down during those temporary drops under loading. However I will not be using high loads, making the voltage drop under loading smaller and therefor the 2.5V cut off seems too low for my usage. I read that the voltage drop from 3.0V to 2.5V happens relative quickly and that the 18650 cell recovers to 2.8/2.9V almost immediately after the load is cut off at 2.5V but as my projects don’t need much power I am worried that the period in which the cell is between 3.0 and 2.5V will be too long and might damage the batteries. To get the load to cut off already at 3.0V I’m thinking to use the S9V11MACMA step-up/step-down voltage regulator (www.pololu.com/product/2868). It can step up the voltage to the level I need for my projects but, more importantly, it can also cut off the power when the voltage drops below a set level. Output - and cut-off voltage can be adjusted with potentiometers on the board to e.g. 5V and 3V respectively. The board would replace the step-up booster and should cut off the power before the TP4056 would. Do you think that will work as intended or will it introduce complications in combination with the TP4056? Also I wondered if it might be a good idea to add a glass fuse to each cell to isolate it in case of a cell failure for additional safety. Probably a bit of overkill as it is only a small pack, but the costs are minimal and the idea of burning my house down is worrying enough for me to consider putting them in. Obviously I would need to use 4 separate cell holders and parallel connect them after the fuses. Any thoughts on that? Maybe I’m just worrying too much.. :)

Good work. I have made a similar battery bank. My biggest issue is that the over-discharge voltage of the TP4056 is too low - it cuts off at 2.5v, but that is pretty stressful for LiPo cells. 3.0 or 3.3v would be better. I am in the process of making my own discharge cutoff circuit with a higher cutoff voltage.

@TheDIYGuy999 5 лет назад
Thanks. Are you using the newer model with additional over discharge protection IC?
@clintoncoker6
@clintoncoker6 5 лет назад
@@TheDIYGuy999 Yes. Apparently you can get TP4056 with the discharge cutoff chip (the DW01) with a higher cutout voltage, but I haven't been able to find them. Nor DW01's by themselves with a higher voltage (could replace it myself on the TP4056).

Im really new to electronics but ive read a lot of people on reddit and forums saying its unsafe for a single charging board to be used on paralell 18650 batteries but i can see that you have done it with no issues. They said: ""You shouldn't put batteries in parallel, especially rechargeable batteries. They will never be "exactly equal" and one battery can discharge into the other which is not efficient and could potentially damage the batteries and maybe overheat and start a fire! "" ""You can put batteries in parallel if you add a diode on each battery to prevent reverse current, but you'll get a voltage-drop across the diode (0.7V for a regular silicon diode) and you'd have to bypass the diodes for charging."" Is this something to worry about as i want to do it and it looks like you have done it succesfully but i need it to be safe.

Its way more of a risk with different cells, when they are the same it will take alot longer but 1 will eventually drop below the rest and the cell will burn up when charging. Again its usually a case of replacing said cell and its good to go again

Why not buying old / dead cheap notebooks? Get a multimeter and test the battery.

yes. I have seen them in series, and I've also seen them in parallel. (One you stack, the other are side by side. Someone also used some diodes. There are LOTS of videos out there. Just type this in a search: TP4056 You will see LOTS!

Parallel get more maH like you parallel 4 cells,each cell have a capacity of 2000maH so you will get 8000maH battery capacity with 3,7V output but in series you have 4 cells in series,each cell have a capacity of 2000maH but you won't get 8000maH,you will get around 15V battery output.Parallel=more capacity, Series=More voltage
@dericklong6191
@dericklong6191 Год назад
@@WalllOfNothing I know that but each battery has one cell and the chargers are single cell chargers I charge 2 in parallel with mine and it works fine but I was afraid 4 cells could burn it up.
