They probably schedule these shoots during the dry season, because the monsoon would turn their dugouts into mudholes. So during the monsoon they go back to their "real" jobs.

Meh. This "mansion" will turn into a mudhole with the first heavy rain. There's no drainage, no cover, the walls are earthen. There will be nothing left for archaeologists.

It's the terrain, most of it is rain forest which means muck and mud and that makes digging easier also the landslides caused by the rain and the mix with the mud creates the perfect clay and cement like mix to make the pools. All those zones between Malaysia and Indonesia, Brazil rain forest and Central Africa jungle are also a great place to make this kind of construction.
