Last week I showed how I replaced the coolant tank in my Porsche Cayenne S. Now, I’m going to show how I finished that project by burping the coolant tank (also known as bleeding). The purpose of this is to make sure there is no air in the lines. If there are air bubbles trapped within the lines, they will interfere with the ability to keep the engine cool.

Hey just use a big clear or white bucket that holds more coolant than you need , then mistakes like this wont happen . Also put a longer pipe on it so it can reach a bigger bucket on the ground.

How did you keep some of the first gallon of coolant from being sucked out and blown out of the venturi tube when you set up the initial vacuum?

Sorry, but I don't get it. Have you emptied the whole coolant system before filling a little bit of coolant, as seen at min: 0:34? What is the reason for putting coolant at min: 0:34?

Do you have to drain the whole coolant? Can you almost have the system full but only have a couple air bubbles in and not have to drain it and just use this item to get the air bubbles out?

I drained the coolant because I had to replace the coolant expansion tank. If you're not doing that, you can just use the tool to burp the system, like you said.

I've got the 3.0t audi engine, but the schwaben tool doesn't seem to fit with any of the adapters that came with it. what size adapter did you use?@@thediygrunt

this is the only video ive seen where someone puts coolant into the tank first? is that necessary?

I did this project in two videos this was the second one. The first video I replaced the tank because it was cracked. So this was the new tank and completely empty so it needed coolant added and to have the air removed from the system. Not sure if that answers your question, I might be misunderstanding exactly what you are asking though.

I suppose the tool would be able to apply a vacuum without any coolant in the system. I'm no expert but that would probably be a bad idea, the coolant hoses could potentially collapse or weaken if they had no fluid in the lines and a vacuum was applied. A quick explanation from AutoZone's website. "The overarching reason that a radiator hose collapses is due to a vacuum that’s created in the cooling system. When that happens, it creates suction on the weakest or softest part of the system, which is one of the rubber hoses" "Like sucking on a milkshake that’s too thick to pass through the straw easily, the suction squishes the radiator hose down. Adding coolant can temporarily remedy the situation, although the leak will need to be dealt with." I would say it is necessary to put the fluid in first.
