As soon as I saw the Maserati I figured it had to be a Quattroporte to make it in this video. The maintenance on those things is insane. 10K car quickly becomes 30K

If you are a DIY owner maintenance is simple and cheap. If you need to pay someone to do maintenance dont buy it. The only expensive item is brake components. Repairs are simple but original parts are expensive. Get the best example with good record and use them. The more use the better they behave, they need to be driven constantly.

@@jobselebron5835 A lot of these newer luxury cars require incredibly expensive computers to reset things after maintenance. They are not DIY friendly at all. They're engineering high end cars more and more to require dealer-only maintenance.

We have a 13” Quattroporte (4.7) for 2 years and it’s been terrific. What’s true is the parts are expensive. What you’d think is $50 is $500. The plug and play automatic transmission selector that shows PRND got delaminated and was $635! But popped it in myself easily. We got ours with a warranty and only 1 thing went wrong some thing behind the speedometer that was making a slight whirring noise. It was $1,900 plus $800 to install at the Maserati dealership. Covered by our Warranty though. Oil changes there are $485 covered again by warranty. Otherwise I’d do it myself. That’s it. It’s fast it’s got 485 Hp so same as a 22” Dodge Challenger 392 Scatpack and does the same top speed at 180 mph. Plenty of space and it’s super comfortable with leather everywhere inside. The steering is alive and great and it’s basically got a Ferrari F430 engine. Plus you get the rest of the car thrown in for free cost wise today in 22’ think of it like that and it’s really a bargain. Life is too short to drive a boring car like a new Toyota or Honda.

@@palebeachbum haha so a new $35,000 Camry doesn’t ? I sat in one recently an Uber driver had one in a state I was visiting. I thought oh looks decent. About a block down the road I said Jesus I’d never buy one of these. The back seat on that “ luxurious” up level model was terribly uncomfortable. I was seriously thinking about getting out and calling someone else but it was dark and late so stayed put. Thank goddess I spent the same and went for a 13’ Maserati Quattroporte instead. 🇮🇹

That Maserati engine is beautiful. I was involved with the development of the nylon intake manifold. I have one in my shop. It is the highlight of the garage art.
@chrisdooley1184
@chrisdooley1184 5 месяцев назад
Ooh do tell more Charles!! Was the intake farmed out to a subcontractor experienced with weaving that nylon? I’d love to hear more of course 😊
@charlestaylor8832
@charlestaylor8832 5 месяцев назад
The part was injection molded as all nylon intake manifolds. This was a multi piece part as is the most common process. Normally they would be vibration welded together. But that requires another set of tooling for welding fixtures and the vibration welders. Great for a 200,000 to 1,000,000 part per year run. Much tougher to afford for a 500 unit a year vehicle. So we helped develop an adhesive bonding process that fit with the small production run. It cost more per part but it eliminated all the tooling and equipment costs. It worked better than a typical welded intake manifold and we never had a warrantee claim.@@chrisdooley1184

I'd have given 13k (starting bid..) for that Quattroporte ALL day long. That ZF6 speed auto is the same one basically used in all Euro 6 speed auto installations with minor differences across makes and is a solid trans. I in fact, have one in my LR3. The only real weak point on those cars was the original Duo-Select gearbox tbh. Everything else was minor, though sometimes annoying (electric window hold clips breaking etc..) The ZF Auto cars had a wet sump vs the Duo Select's dry sump V8, meaning more conventional services as well. Not the worst car to spend 13k on!

Uh, guys... There are REASONS the Q'portes are so cheap - maintenance/servicing/reliability. Modest estimates will tell you $3000/year, but an honest dealer will tell you that can double with mileage, and god help you if some of those neat electric/electronic gubbins start to go south. Plus the cost of insurance and gas... Any digital Bimmer with 160K on the clock is going to start to trash your bank account in short order, although not in the Maser's class. BUT, for $4k it might be a consideration...except, most auction buyers have a pretty good feel for market value. It would be hard to sell off your lot with that kind of mileage on it. Dunno about the VW, but at least it should not require a second mortgage to finance the maintenance. Plus, that particular car seemed quite clean and the mileage wasn't a detriment. A good buy at $7K - there is money to be made there. Repeat after me, "There are NO bargain exotics or high-end luxury cars!!". Does the word "bankruptcy" mean anything to you?
