I just bought a 02 F350 crew 4x4 long bed with 158,000 with nice wheels and lifted up. No issues so far and no oil leaks. Really nice interior. Paid 19k for it.
Thank you for making this video. I am new to diesels and currently looking at the 7.3. All these tips are super useful since I will have a budget around 15k and won't be getting a low mile one.
just bought a 2000 f250 7.3 extended cab 4x4 short bed for $3,700 with 204,000 miles in maroon and its completley stock, no leaks runs great. has small dent on cab corner but for the price i couldnt beat it. its crazy the valley looked dry and the driveshaft is snug with zero rattle.
I bought a '95 7.3 with 276,000 for $8,250. I got the back story of it. the transmission went at 309,000 got it back. she's gorgeous, loud and all mine. do not regret it.
Thank you so much for making this video. I'm in the market for an 01-03 F-350 dually 7.3. I have never owned a diesel truck so I greatly appreciate videos like this. I made note of everything you said and will 100% use it when looking at a truck. Thanks again!!
I took a ping pong ball with me to check blowby on a 7.3 a week ago. Works alot better than the cap. I picked the truck up for 5000$ needs a new clutch and up pipes. 177554 miles she runs so good despite needing a new clutch and small uppipe leak. I've ordered 1500$ in parts and sensor I might need down the road. She's going to be a beast. I'm happy with it.
I just picked up a 7.3 for 5000 similar milage. Runs great, but it has an oil leak the previous owner claims not to have investigated. Worst case it's a rear main seal.
They rarely get a rear main seal leak it usually the oring under the turbo or diesel from filter it runs in the valley down the back of the engine. They hardly ever have a rear main seal leak.
@@JohnSmith-kz1ll I've been reading up, and everyone seems to agree that a rear main is an uncommon leak. I bought it with the worst case scenario in mind. Thanks for giving me an idea of what to look for. I idled it in his driveway and it spat out a bunch of oil, so whatever it is it's a pretty good size leak. I'm gonna pick it up in the next few days. I'm looking forward to getting in there and figuring it out.
Nice job on this video. Very informative for anyone looking to buy. I just bought a 7.3 Excursion for $4,000. Runs and drives great both in town and highway. Has 478,000 miles on it and feel good about it lasting even if I need to put some $$ into it.
@@Hebsparks I ran across it three miles from my house. Just happened to drive by it on the road and it had a for sale sign in it. I'm sure the high miles scared most people off, plus the high price of diesel.
@@MaddoxMelton I just bought a 1 owner E99 crew cab long bed for $4400 outside of houston. She has 390k but runs amazing and starts everytime. Only issue I've had to far is a fuel bowl leak but i fixed that. Keep your eyes peeled for deals check online religiously. They pop up occasionally.
I thought that was a good video. Pretty straight forward, no weird music, logically laid out and generally helpful. Your black truck is a knock out beauty! If someone has one like that, and they're selling, I'm buying.
Great video, I'm torn between a 7.3 powerstroke and a 6.7 cummins..leaning towards a 7.3. You offered up a bunch of useful info, you dir are a wealth of knowledge. I know who to hit up with any questions, haha. Cheers from Broward!
I appreciate it brother! That's a hard choice, I love Fords but I would personally choose the 6.7. But it depends on how much you're looking to spend and the condition of the trucks.
Just to add to 5:30 a Carfax report will only report to you an accident that was reported to an insurance company. So there are definitely some cases where a vehicle can be in some form of a crash and still have a clean Carfax. I would definitely recommend being careful if you don't really know how to look for frame damage.
my 99 f250 7.3. 272k miles. I'm the 4th or 5th owner. sometimes when i start it there is a BRIEF period of white smoke but it goes away shortly thereafter. Also, when doing a cold start, the glow plugs take APPROXIMATELY 10-ish seconds to heat up and the "wait to start" goes away. Guess i should count next time.
I bought my 7.3 for 3500 lifted 37s ,everything worked just needed tires... love it, bought it with 260k its got 280k now, it may be rusty but fuck it's mint
Hey man, great video very informative. I'm actually just about to go look at a 2003 7.3 ex eddie with a new engine with 123000miles and the Trans was rebuilt within the last year . Here are some more specs Fully loaded 2003 Eddie Bauer with tan interior. Headgasket and injector sleeves just completed at Santech Diesel Performance. Engine replaced by Alpine Diesel August 2020 with a 7.3L Powerstroke. Lots of recent mechanical work done to save the headache. HPOP seals, turbo pedestal seals and oil cooler seals. Riffraff CPS, IPR and ICP all installed. Brand new in box Hydra tuner included but never installed. The body - 5” lift with new Bistein 5100’s all around with lifetime warranty (bought at 4wheel Parts), airbagged rear end, professionally paint matched bedliner on the roof (done by Line-X), new windshield. All lights, windows and electrical seem to work as they should. Also has factory roof rails. Cali Raised rims with 325/60R20 Hankook Dynapro’s. Also lots of parts included - additional 2 HPOP’s, stock injectors, gaskets, and others. Last owner was meticulous and I’ve got receipts for most of the work/parts. He'd asking 8,400 for it what do you think
How many miles and how much did it cost you? I'm looking at the exact same setup but with 4 doors. Has 133k miles but they're asking 22k. Seems a little high to me.
@@Ace-44 hell ya man hope ya like it, im tempted on a gen 2 5.0 f150 or a 4.8-5.3 gm but not going to lie. The 7.3 i wanna keep for another decade or two if i get it so might just have to🙈
@hkkhan8319 Like the truck alot. Same engine thats in my Town Car so I'm pretty familiar with it. Those gen 2 5.0s are pretty bulletproof from the little research I've done on them. Read they fixed the valve issue with the gen 2. Funny you mention those LS engines. I just bought a 2000 2500 Suburban with the 6.0 lol. Those LS motors from 99-06 are the best gas engines gm made in my opinion. I wouldn't touch a 5.3 after 06 if I were you though. To many issues with AFM. Gm never put AFM in the 4.8 or 6.0 though so if you're looking at Gm trucks after 06' I'd look for one of those. Just my opinion. A well taken care of 7.3 will definitely last you 10 years if you take care of it as well. I still kick myself for not buying the one I was looking at. I even put a non-refundable deposit down on it and I still backed out of the deal. But yea just take your time and be patient. The right truck will come along. Don't rush. You'll know when you've found the right 1!
Also, beware of the phony dually trucks (people who added the wide rear fenders and extra wheels to a single rear wheel drive F350). If the wide rear fenders do not have the running lights or have the black out running lights it's phony dually. Or if the dually rear wheels do not line up with the fenders (wheels are too far in), it's a phony dually. The best way to identify a real dually is to look at the VIN. Mine is an 2002 F350 crew cab dually so it has W33 in the VIN numbers that let me know the body style is a DRW.
I have a 1999 ford f550 7.3L for sale. It has 79k miles. It has a western hauler look and it is custom. It has a hauling bed too. The cab is in fantastic condition.
@@gatornation3889 if your still interested. I have 2 videos on both of them. Showing them in full detail. I should also mention that the f550 I'd getting a brand new transmission right now
Is it a bad sign having to wait almost a minute for a 2000 f250 7.3 to get it to start when already warm? Or even cold...if soo what will most likely be the the reason? Great videos and thank you for sharing all this valuable information.
If it's cold and you have to wait that long it's probably your glow plugs which isn't the huge deal unless you're living somewhere cold. They're not too expensive or hard to replace. If it's a hot start issue then you could have bigger problems like oil pressure or something. It would be hard to say without seeing the truck
You forget to check the side of the motor block cause all diesels leaves residue, if the motor has clean streaks running down the side of the engine block its not good
Nice vid lots of good info... But why do you have a daully that says it rwd on it that odd most daully are rwd (4wd) so it seems pointless to have that on there 🤷 just saying
Hey I’m 19 & getting ready to possibly buy my a diesel truck I got a job doing framing with my buddies and I’m looking at a 1999 ford 250 7.3 super duty it’s lifted about 8 inches or so could I email you the link or pictures of it or something and tell me if it’s worth it it has 160,000 miles and everything is in really good condition I think, 0 rust leather seats are in perfect condition they’re asking 19,000$ for it but what’s scary is it’s had 5 owners , I went to test drive it yesterday and they took my license then came back and said one of there guys accidentally took the key and he’ll be back monday which is 3 days from the day I went it was sorta suspicious I thought but accidents do happen if you have any more advice please share because I don’t have anyone I know who knows anything about diesel trucks thanks man and great video ! 👍👍
If the white truck is a bitch to start, tell me this, are you starting it infrequently? If so watch your oil pressure gauge as you try to start it. If you see the pressure tick up and then it starts just a half a second later, that's a sign that the oil is draining out of the high pressure reservoir when your leaving it sit for days. It cranks and cranks without starting while the reservoir refills and then fires as soon as it's full.
I got a 1995 f250 with 350,000 miles that blows white smoke when I start it during this winter ran perfect this summer I just got it in may tho. Hopefully nothing is going out I know they don't like the cold I been trying to keep it plugged up it helps a lot.
I'm looking at a 00 F250 XLT 7.3 with almost 325k for 8k. My budget is 8.5k with 1.5k spending on anything like parts that it "needs". Currently only needs a horn for inspection in '22. It's his daily driver and I've made sure to look underneath the hood and at the frame and body
Don't you dare spend that much!!..i grabbed an o.b.s f350 crew cab 4x4 with the 7.3 and zf5 for $1000,twas at 700k and I got it up to 1.5 million b4 the injector cups let loose..recently overhauled,it's a champ again..spend no more than $4000,don't piss me off😂
You missed blue smoke which you're flatbed was blowing.. That truck is on its way out bro.. In about 10 20,000 miles.. Why didn't you let us hear the white truck crank?
So your cap did not blow off right? As in that motor has no blow by? I’m having a hard time trying to determine whether a cap rattles off or blows off lol, thank you!
No neither truck in this video had any bad blow by. Forget the cap and just put your hand up to the opening and see if you feel any puffs of air coming out which is a bad sign. The caps can shake off easily but you'll still feel the air. You could also put a small piece of paper or something over the hole to see if air pushes it off.
Wrong about the conversion. Ppl changes muffler, tires, tail lights, headlights, interior stuff, front end etc. Just because they want something different "personalized." Not because it needs it.
Great vid thanks man. I’m going to look at an 03, however seller said flexplate is bad so it won’t start. But only wants $3k with 190k miles. I’m concerned it’s something more than a flexplate.
Hey i know this was posted a while back but I’m in need of some advice. I found a 7.3 350 manual really close to me and it’s pretty reasonable in today’s market. Was wondering if I sent you the link you could check it out for me and lmk what you think. Appreciate the vidoe brother
If you are not having any trouble with the truck I would suggest you keep it. I have a 01 with 407000 miles and no problems. Just remember they aren’t dragsters.
@lonniedye7068 is what he paid a really good deal? I'm looking at a 250 powerstoke 6 speed manual, trans was rebuilt by shop, engine was rebuilt by the owner of truck, frame off restoration, flatbed, small amount of surface rust on spots. Kid wants 22k. That a good deal?
No offense I half way agree with you about the front end conversion some people will just do it just to make it look better or if they had a clear truck and put a 05-07 front end on it to make it look better you know
