I like the last bass, active, for more tone. When I think of active I think of Marcus Miller- Nathan from Fourplay- Babbit one of the Funk brothers of Motown. And a dear friend of mine George G.
What matters to me first and foremost is how comfortable it is…weight, balance, neck thickness (or thinness for me), looks, the pickups. I love Ibanez basses the best, my 2 favorite being the GSR206 and SR506E. 2 opposite ends of the spectrum price and tier wise, but both phenomenal instruments that play amazingly and feel great, though the 206 is on the heavy side lol but whether you spend around 300, 900, or anywhere in between, cant go wrong with Ibanez. My first bass was the GSR200 for like $175 in the mid 2010’s, even had a GSRM200 (Mikro bass) and that little thing was amazing, but gave it to a coworkers brother as a birthday gift because he wanted to get into bass but didn’t have much money, the regular GSR200 went to my step brother years back, which was another gift lol they were both happy and still have em to this day.

I don't play bass, but I love the sound of an upright bass. Since I am a singer songwriter I am learning about other instruments: Their placement in Jazz is important, so I need to know how to compress and EQ them better. Even when I am performing I do EQ and compress some songs I perform. Learning about an instrument can be the difference between a note it can and can not play. I use Finale as my means of writing the 2nd way. Piano is first for me. Thanks for the video.
My favourite pickups are: "What's a nice girl like you doing in a place like this" and "Heaven must be missing an angel." I don't recommend the vintage "Club & drag" pickups. Effective, but far too harsh for modern times. It's best to explore all the possibilities before settling on what works best for you. Once you've found the right one, I personally recommend bringing some PJs, just in case it's an all nighter.
Gee, could you be any more biased towards the Fender type basses? You couldn’t even bring yourself to mutter humbucker let alone play a traditional humbucker.
