Honestly, I’ve never touched one, but I’ve tried to buy one a few times. I think it is a fascinating concept, and I would love to test one.

@@AdventureCruiser I recently purchesed one in UHF. Its a super cool radio, Basically and XTS5000 that looks like a flip phone with an APX style screen

I have an XTS4000 in VHF, took me ages to locate a clean one and then get all the special accessories. Mine is AES enabled and came with a Hirose keyload cable that goes right into a KFDTool. It is a fun oddity

@@NigelBallard does it work? Is the TX output limited to 2-3watts? There are a couple on eBay, I’m tempted but I did just buy another stupid expensive radio so my budget is a little limited at the moment.

@@AdventureCruiser It works 100% though I've only used it in analogue. Output is just a few watts. I believe they were designed for digital networks or to work through a suitcase tactical repeater. I managed to locate a 'still in the bag' replacement antenna on eBay a few months back. It feels good in the hand and the build it solid. Basically it's an XTS2500 cut in half I think. VHF is much harder to locate than UHF. In 2024 its only real purpose is a place on the shelf of a Motorola radio collector or a movie prop

Functionally? Likely there is nothing wrong with it so long as it’s tuned. The downsides are a lower resale value, and you may not be able to send it to Motorola for repairs.
