If you want a microscope for your kid, listen carefully the first 10 second. That should be common knowledge and compound microscope for kids should not exist! Thank you for your great content.
Hello. I want a microscope of one of these you would recommend for looking at things like cells and/or microscopic creatures. It just needs to be not too expensive but have from 30-90 magnification.
It all depend of what kind of sample you want to look at. 30x to 90x is a weird magnification bracket. It's barely enough to get a great view on cells and it's a bit too much to get proper view of insect. But you can get a basic compound microscope with 40x 100x 400x (basically 4x 10x and 40x objective + 10x eyepiece). The one with a top illumination can help you get that lower magnification in check. The 400x won't be very usable if you don't have a proper condenser with diaphragm.
Awesome video! We've been having issues with my son sucking on the eye piece ever since he stopped nursing. Which microscope would you recommend for a kid like him? I'm seeing those options with the large screen and I'm thinking there's no way he could fit that in his mouth.
Hello my friend, have you tried adding a bitterant agent to your microscope eyepiece? I find that kids will manage to fit anything in their mouths so you might still have the problem with a large screen!
If you let him use an ipad or phone I'd recommend the mobile microscope, otherwise I'd say a standalone digital microscope. If you really don't want him using a screen you'd want to get a stereomicroscope

Nooooo lmao I was hoping you’d actually review the red one in the thumbnail. I’m looking for a cheap ~400x microscope to use as an adult, and was wondering if the tiny red one works (even though you said it is fickle)?
Check out the 'Do Cheap Microscopes Actually Work' video. I talk about it there. Basically it is almost useless and you'd be better off getting a digital or smartphone microscope
