Bored pile foundation is a foundation that is installed by drilling the soil with a certain diameter until it reaches a predetermined depth, then the assembled steel reinforcement is inserted into the drill hole and followed by filling the aggregate of concrete material into the hole. Bored pile is used if the work location has solid/stable soil properties so that it has a large bearing capacity with a depth of approximately 15 meters. Bored pile is very suitable to be used when there are many buildings around the location.
The carrying capacity of the bored pile is obtained from the end bearing capacity derived from the pile tip pressure and the friction bearing capacity derived from the friction bearing capacity or the adhesion force between the bored pile and the surrounding soil.
Pile foundations, including bored piles, are usually used on stable and rigid soils so that it is possible to form stable holes. If the soil contains water after the soil has been drilled with a drill, an iron pipe is needed to hold the hole wall and then the iron pipe is pulled up when placing the concrete. Whereas on hard soil or soft rock, the base of the pile can be made larger in order to increase the bearing resistance of the pile tip.
The types of bored pile foundations include:
-Straight bore pile for hard ground;
-Bored pile whose ends are enlarged in the form of a bell;
Bored pile whose ends are enlarged in the form of a trapezoid;
Bored pile straight for rocky soil.
