This video was very informative. Thank you. Ill like to ask a question. If i want to use SPEI to calculate drought within specific months (seasonal crop start and end of season), do i download historical precipitation and temperature data from the year it was started at the station to the year of my interest? Example: I want to compute SPEI for 6 months ( June -December of 2023). Do you acquire climate data from the year of the first record(example 1985) to the year of interest (2023)?

Thank you very much for your video and I have a question. When I calculate the spei in R software, it shows NA. On the other hand, PET and water balance can calculate.

Hello again Mr. Fitsum, i do have a question regarded the hargreaves method. I do have rasters of minimum, maximum and precipiation values and i would like to make an SPEI raster with those in arcmap with raster calculator. I have one problem that i didnt found the Hargreaves equation for PET. Do you know the Hargreaves PET equation? Anticipated thanks!

How I will export this SPEI result into excel or csv file? I found error "Error in as.data.frame.default(x[[i]], optional = TRUE, stringsAsFactors = stringsAsFactors) : cannot coerce class ‘"spei"’ to a data.frame

Thank you very much for your video. It helps me in my project. But I am not sure I entirely understand what you mean by "timescale". Is it the reference time period? If you say "6 months", does that mean you tell R to calculate the SPEI based on the conditions during the last six months before the time stamp?

6 months means 6 consecutive months. Jan-June Feb-July Mar-Aug

@@FreeScholarshipsGuide Hi, so for SPI -6 months, is it calculated using the rainfall for the last 6 months? e.g. the spi-6 value for the month of January, is this calculated using rainfall from Aug-jan or rainfall from jan-june? .

Hello, Mr. Fitsum, i am a student from Romania and try to do my thesis on droughts but i have a problem that my data is just with medium temperature and precipitation, and thornthwaite variant doesn't work for me. Do you have any video or tutorial about that? I do exactely as u did until PET

You could use this command, spei1, here is the spe1 calculated by the formula, file equal to has the name of the file in which you want to store your data and row.names is equal to false means it will not write the first column which contains the serial numbers. Here this file called SPEI_1009_1 is the name of the file given by me and it will be saved in the working directory. write.csv(spei1$fitted, file = 'SPEI_1009_1', row.names = FALSE)

SOS! Can someone please help me? I type in data(filename), then I press enter and all the time ir says: data set 'filename' not found. I am really desperate. Does anybody knows why R cant find my data?
