Dear Mr. DieFarbe , could you tell us how you can conduct both SPI and SPEI manually in Excel by using Gamma distribution for different scale and for only one station. (I am able to do so in both R programming and Python ) but I really want to learn from their eauation manually. Thank you so much

Thank you Mr DieFarbe. I'm a research student. My project supervisor asked me to compute SPI, I followed the steps you explained above, but he said "that is exacly for normalized rainfall index", that SPI is supposed to be fitted to gamma distribution. Please how do i go about it?

Diefarbe HI I have yearly or monthly precipitation data from the google earth engine database and I want to calculate SPI But how I can calculate these yearly SPI?

If you have data in excel you can calulate SPI. if your data is in KML or KMZ format you need to convert your data as CSV format. you can also calculate SPI using RStudio. If you have monthly data and you want to calculate yearly SPI, you should take a summation of 12 months precipitation for each year.

@@ayandas9946 Ok, there's a lot of websites to download rainfall data. Data.gov.in Imdtvm.gov.in Imd.gov.in Or you may directly contact with the meteorological department of India. I don't know if the data is free. You may also take a look at www.ncdc.noaa.gov/cdo-web/ globalweather.tamu.edu My recommendation is, you should contact with the meteorological department.
