Starting at about 2:20 in the video I show the odds of getting all six correct and there is only one combination then that is 1 out of You need to figure how many different ways can you pick 5 numbers out of 6. I just added a link to a video on permutations and combinations in the video description of this video. You will use combinations picking 5 out of 6 in the video I am use N = 5 and n=3. You need to use N = 6 and n = 5. Make sense? Good luck!

To put it simply I want to know how to calculate the odds of winning when you have to pick combination of two 2 digit numbers (from 0 to 99) like 01 78, 88 76, 13 13 etc..here repetition is allowed...im not good at math so im having grasping this "order" thing . Here the order matters cuz 88 76 and 76 88 are two distinct (say winning number combinations) but the order won't matter for number combination with same digits such as 00 00, 66 66 etc.. so how do I remove the combinations of numbers like that and calculate the exact odds and probability of winning??

A factorial is just a symbol used in mathematics. It is the ! or exclamation mark. If I had 4!, then I would multiply 4 x 3 x 2 x 1 or if I had 6! I would multiply 6 x 5 x 4 x 3 x 2 x 1

Hi. Can someone please help. Let's say you chose 2 numbers from 6 balls. When I use your formula for e.g. P (3,2), I get 1:15, when I write out all the possible combinations I get 1:36. Also when I write out the numbers without repeating numbers I get 1:21.

Odds of winning doesn't help. You need software and statistical filters to reduce the amount of combinations! Without a powerful hard and software not much chances. Think about nowadays machines doing calculus/mining for bitcoins from blockchains..

Nice video Statisticsfun!.The problem is correct when we use combination, the formula is the correct one, and that give us the 1/13,983,816 odds to win the lottery. But I have one doubt, I tried to look the problem in a more practical way, and I believe that we need to use the permutation formula to solve this problem, because lets say that the winner number is: 123456, but if you have the ticket 654321, you are not the winner, but with combinations both numbers are the same. What do you think?.
