Well you’re not alone lmaooo I recently started doing this. Been feeding the birds since the pandemic. All types of birds, the squirrels, they all come at my whistling. Or simply my voice. I open my window and they all start visiting. Reason I’ll play bird calls is I live in apartment complex that doesn’t allow feeding the birds (or anything else.) And the people (bad irony the tenants closest to me.) Ones who exit one door over, or the people downstairs. Literally the birds come, start eating, and someone goes out and scares them away. (Lots of truly nasty people that make me love the animals even more) But they aimlessly walk around going in and out in and out ....that I think the birds are finally like ,”okay I am done trying today.” and give up. Also, if I whistle the neighbors complain and report me for feeding the birds. Even if I’m just talking to them! Sheesh. I talk to animals, I befriend them. ANYWAY, the calls work. Though I think it’s like a mean joke to call them and you don’t have something to give in exchange, and appreciation for their lovely visit. Always should have some seeds or nuts out, maybe a shallow tray of water. That’ll make them happy, and prone to continue to come regularly. :)

My wife used to stand out on our balcony and do the "chirp" call; the male would fly around from roof to roof nearby, going nuts, looking for the bird.
I knew two people (my dad being one of them) who could call a flock of Cardinals out of the woods, wish I knew the secret,. I had hoped I could find a video to do that but all I see I ONE, lol
I played this in the backyard not far from the new bird bath I put up and I got at least 4 cardinals to come. At first they flew back and forth over my head then they pitched on the fence several feet away and on the tree nearest the bird bath. I believe being that close to the bath they most likely took notice of it. It is fun to watch them react to this video. Hopefully I am not aggravating them .
I had no Idea this was a Thing , I was sitting outside looking at You tube for some Bird Mating Sounds for a Project And Sudden this Big Red Bird flys out of no where , Who knew ?
I have been feeding song birds for about 7 years and I have so many family’s of Cardinals it’s hard to get a correct count. One of my boys will come sit on the patio table next to me.

Cruel. Cardinals are very territorial, the bird thinks there is another male invading his territory, and he is confused because he can't see it. It is very unethical to upset birds by playing tape recordings.
