I have been hunting since i was 14 and now at 32 I just got serious about hunting after my wife got me my first bow. After many videos, I have found that your videos are the best, user friendly. Great explanations for someone like me. Thank You! God Bless you, Brother!
Thanks!!! I also just released a new hunting book you might like. How to hunt deer with proven success. The subtitle is- a comprehensive guide to help Bowhunters harvest bigger bucks and more deer
I agree with your advice 100%. Many of my bucks have been called in by a grunt, with over 40 archery seasons behind me, it's wise to grunt only when you see a buck that's walking away or in the distance, then only grunt one time & put the call away. Much of the time during the rut, the buck will meander close enough for a shot sometimes 30 minutes or even an hour or more later, as curiosity gets to them with that single grunt. Calling a second time will usually allow them to pinpoint you or lose interest. Great advice Sean & God bless. -Andy
I think a lot of hunters forget when you call to a deer , he is now hunting you and is looking and listening even more to try and find you. Good advice Sean is giving it takes time to learn how and when to use Calls. God bless Sean and family
I was able to get my 9 pointer 2 days ago based of the first video i watched of yours... sean it was a video just like this one... how to use a grunt tube....in fact this how i stumbled apon this awsome youtube channel thank you so much sean keep the sweet content comeing and god bess
Man thanks so much for your info. I'm a self-taught hunter. This is my 2nd year hunting but haven't got anything this year yet, but I've still got plenty of time! *subscribed*
I found your video a month-and-a-half ago because I was looking for some inspiration I've been watching them ever since I just got back into bowhunting this year and your videos have been very helpful thanks for all you do God bless
Got 2 doe down and one really big 8 I hit with my truck of all things this year. Been able to help out a couple guys at work. I'm trying for a real tall 8 I have at my hunting spot. So I enjoyed your vid. I think I call too much. Going back out in the morning.
I've never used a wheeze and get a crack at a 10 point + every year. Estrus urine/ buck urine and a tending grunt. 2 long, 2 short calls in a session. Be sure to watch with the wind....they'll come into the wind....just don't get busted moving and don't enter the woods with a flashlight. If you naturally spook them walking it they won't go far....use a drag string to your stand. They come to you when you start blowing the grunt at first light. they can't resist all three things.
Hey Sean, I was just wondering if you could do an update video on those trail cams you got on amazon last year? I can't remember what brand they were but they weren't overly expensive($60 or $80 or something like that). Was wondering how well they have held up so far. Thanks for pumping out all this great information!!
@@seansoutdoors perfect! Getting trail cams is on my list for this year. I haven't owned any before and I kinda feel like I'm missing out because I have no idea if there are animals where I decide to go hunting so I can, quite literally, waste entire days and still not be sure of why I haven't seen anything. It can be very frustrating to not know
It took me years to learn to call in deer. Luckily where I grew up, it was a lot of agriculture. So you could see FOREVER! Besides not over calling, "if" can see a deer from way off. Try to read their body language. Each deer likes something different. Just like their personalities. Some are submissive, some are curious, some are fighters. I shot one buck that didn't care about my grunts or doe beats. I tickled the antlers, he came running. Another buck just was curious about doe bleats. BUT YOU'RE RIGHT!!! NEVER LET THEM ON POINT YOU!!!
Sean, interested in why you say no estrus, doe urine “calming”, drag line, buck scrape drip? Am I ruining my hunting locations by setting these up? I am a very novice hunter and value your input and videos. First generation (my dad or family never hunted) roommates got me into it in college. Thanks for the help and may God bless you and your hunts.
@@williamggodfrey I've been hunting for 33 years for deer. There have been a few times where scent helped to lure in a young buck, but there have also been many times where it spooked off doe (and therefore big bucks) or I simply didn't see anything at all which could also mean that the deer were spooked off and I just didn't know it. If I was going to try any scent, I would get the kinds that are all natural and frozen right away after acquired from the deer so that there are no additives or preservatives. In fact, I was asked to t try some of that and did but it didn't seem to do anything at all. So, I would rather take my chances without that stuff.
Good advice Sean.. I tried it this year and didn't seem to have any luck but maybe I was doing more than I thought. Still got my deer but maybe I would have had more success my toning back on the frequency of my calls... I will try that next season lol... Dennis in saskatchewan
I've never had a buck complain about the sound of the call...high or deep.....they aren't picky in pre rut or rut.....just use one grunt in prerut....I use two long and two short in rut.....I always add buck urine in prerut and buck urine and estrus in rut....add the grunt and it's deadly.....the only thing to be careful with is getting busted moving. go into the woods in the dark with no flashlight....even if you spook them they won't go far if you add the urine and drag it in to your stand. I've made mistakes on the grunt when it's very cold and it still doesn't scare them.
Sean, I have been trying smoking my clothes this season after I saw you video and the bee smoker idea which really makes easy. I have got to tell I too have had a couple deer get down wind of me and not alert. You can tell they smell something but it does not alert them. I have been smoking my clothes every other hunt. How often do you do it?
I probably have been doing it about that often, which for me is about once a week and I keep them in a plastic bin so the odor stays in the clothes really well.
I live in North TX by the red River and these deer are so pressured on public land it's hard to call any deer in. But was in stand and big 4 point came in on blind side and I never called that morning it didn't have the legal spread but it's crazy how these deer act here.
I’m just now back hunting after 10+ years and I’m hunting in my backyard but it’s grassy and haven’t been cut in years what’s the best way to hunt it ?
Ty I’ve been doing it wrong all the time. I have a question, I know you smoke your clothes, so as a smoker would it be the same if I had a cigarette while hunting? I know you don’t smoke but I was just wondering.
I don't know regarding the cigarette. It doesn't smell the same as burning wood and it doesn't completely cover other odors like wood smoke so I wouldn't completely trust it on its own.
I have never ever had success grunting. Not saying I haven’t called in a small buck but never any luck with a shooter. How’s the Iowa buck tag holding up Sean ? 😁 hope you get a good one. Btw you should do some videos on using saddle gear. Knots , ring of steps etc. thanks
Well done as usual, do you agree its not a good idea to try to pull a buck following/ chasing does, off the does, and towards your position with a call? As well as fresh trailing a doe through the woods after the buck annoys the doe and runs her off? Happened to me last night and I agree with you, less is better.
If I see a big buck on a doe and they are not coming my way, I will try a snort wheeze at him and maybe a grunt or two, but if they are not responding I stop right away.
unrelated to this particular video, but on my sanlida dragon x8, I keep having peep rotation problems, even after taking to a pro shop a couple times. Is it time I get custom cables for it?
That is a battle with pretty much all strings. You could try getting a custom string but you may have the same problem. I just observe the amount of rotation I'm getting and then tune the string so it's pointed that about to the side and rotates right into position where I need it
I hunt the same way hot or cold.....if a buck is bedding nearby he will come out if you use buck urine, does estrus, and a tending grunt. (I use two long and two short grunts all at once...a second apart.) During rut I've had them come at me at 2pm , 70 degrees....
Hey Sean I'm a long time viewer. I was wondering if you have ever hunted sgl 52 in pa. The deer have just started to move during the day is this normal for south eastern pa?
I lived in PA last year (and grew up in SE pa.) In boyertown area, Berks co. (20 miles from SGL 52) they responded to buck urine and a single grunt from the first day of archery til the end of gunning season. I hunted everyday. you have to be consistant and patient. During rut I add estrus and buck urine and a tending grunt. Two long two short. Last year I had a windy day when I used a drag string (buck urine and estrus) for about 2 miles below my son's house..it was about Nov 6th (rut had just started) ...he lives on a mountain with a few big fields below his house.....once I got back to my blind I saw 5 buck chasing a doe for about an hour....they just appeared 10 minutes after I sat down....the big bucks where nose to butt...3 of them and the doe. Kept grunting.....the 10 point came to 7 yds of my blind and I shot him with a crossbow.
As you know deer are used to smelling natural forest fires I got the idea from a 12 year old master archman and Hunter raise a child up in the way they should go have a blessed day
