I feel the same and way. I was x studying my Chinese Hibiscus which I've already pruned, trying to decide on whether to rootprune or not. It IS quite rootbound but in a very large pot. I think I'll only dig away some roots at the top and replace with organic materials as close as I can to what he's suggested. I was really l looking forward to lots of blooms this year but after watching this video, I'm laughing at myself. I was doing some of the right things thank goodness our I wouldn't have a 5 year old plant. I didn't let it really go thru dormancy this winter. Ignorance. I'm hoping for a major improvement on its growth and flowering once I've amended it's soil as much as I can without repotting. I'm amazed to find a comprehensive video like this. It was just what I was looking for.

@@CITYGARDENING Thanks for a kind reply. Undoubtedly, I have shared my views with a true heart. You really deserve it. It is a very specific quality of hibiscus to keep on growing in a big pot without forming buds and flowers. Because it has tendency to occupy the whole space of the pot forming a bounding root ball with widening of the main stem, if planted in a pot bigger than required for the next level of repotting. Hence hibiscus gives more flowers if potted in a pot required for that particular level of growth. This is exclusively seen in plants bought from nurseries in small pots.

bought my first Hibiscus, Orchid and Anthurium plants today. I had always been intimidated by gardening. Corona lockdown days set me on a new journey.

There might be fungal infections in root system. Repot the plant with fungicide treatment.
