Correction- Sponges are not recommended for water dishes due to potential bacteria buildup. Thanks for the reminder, guys! I totally forgot about that! I'll correct myself in our upcoming tarantula video :)
what makes them cool for me is that they seem to be pretty intelligent they actually look like they they are thinking, unlike most spiders who just crawl braindead over your face, even tho you are 10000 times his size and an apex predator normal spiders are insane and dumb, a jumping spider stays away from you, its aware of its surroundings.
Fun fact: I lived in Japan for a summer. Jumping spiders were everywhere. At first they freaked me out. One day I was playing videogames. After about an hour I looked down to see a jumping spider just watching me play. He continued to watch the game for a good 10 minutes, intermitantly flitting around. Then he just wandered off. They freaked me out a little less after that.
Fun encounter I’ve had with a bold jumping spider: We were playing with the cat with a laser pointer at the time, and noticed the spider on the ceiling- surprise surprise, the jumping spider was also very interested in the laser 😂 She chased it around for a good three minutes before getting bored and wandering off lol
I had a cross orb weaver as a “pet.” She was a beautiful female named Judy. I sat on my porch at night and watched her build her web. I talked to her and she would moved around her front legs when she heard my voice. She made it so I am a lot less scared of bugs/invertebrates.
I had a female orb weaver near my porch as a kid too. I caught grasshoppers and tossed them into her web. One day i realized her web was gone and found out these boys did me a "favor" and got rid of her for me. I was pissed to say the least
My wife: Why did you spend $45 on a cage and all this stuff to put in it? Me: ...goes outside for 10 minutes and comes back in with a jumper the size of a pea My wife: You've arranged all of this for a bug you found in the backyard? Me: His name is Luca Brasi.
0:15 "oh hi mom" I remember a house spider that made a web in my bedroom window. She was just young at the time that I first saw her, just barely the size of a cherry pit, and despite me being afraid of spiders, I let her be since I figured she would stay in the window anyways, and my bed and desk were on the other side of my room anyways. I was more worried about the weird beige spiders that would actively hunt and move around in my room anyways, so a house spider that was no doubt going to stay in one place most of the time was the least of my worries. There was a tiny hole in the window frame where she would hide out until she ended up getting too big for it. She was a big girl, too, with an abdomen about the size of a quarter, hence why I assumed she was a female. She was actually so docile that I was comfortable enough to walk up and get a close look at her while she was in her web, so much so that I actually got a good look at her diamond-like markings. She never darted and was usually very placid, even when taking down whatever got caught in her web. Being an unoriginal nerd, I nicknamed her Charlotte. Roughly a year and a half later, it's the last day of officially moving to our new house, and as I was grabbing the last of my things and saying goodbye to the place I spent my entire life in, I noticed Charlotte wasn't in her web. I looked down to see her sitting on the windowsill, totally still. She wasn't even in a death curl. I found it pretty poetically bittersweet that my last day in that room was hers as well. I wasn't about to cry over a spider that made its home in my window well over a year ago, but I did find myself feeling a little sad. I think, ever since then, I've regarded every spider in my room as something of a roommate that ranged from annoying to tolerable. I think Charlotte was the only one I actually grew somewhat attached to, even to the point where I would greet her in the morning. Except the little hunting spiders. They're not welcome. git out EDIT 16/05/2021: So there's a new spider in my window! Same species as Charlotte, and she's in the same corner that Charlotte took at my old house! Funny how that turns out. Perhaps Charlotte followed me ;)
I also don't mind the webbuilding spiders. I named mine Oscar, was a orange colored garden spider. He built his home at the one window i had half open most of the time, and because there was a light nearby, a lot of flying insects tried to get into the room through that window slit. Oscar had a lot to eat :) grew so big, his net spanned half the window, there was no way for any insect to fly into the room without crossing and getting stuck int he web. It was the perfect symbiose. If there was like a week of very cold unusual weather, and oscar not feeding at all, i'd put up a lamp and just shine outside at evenings, and all kinds of moths and night insects came flying into the light, which mean into oscars net :) I absolutely hate those black hunting spiders tho. the ones that dont build nets, just creep around on walls....i mean if they were tiny like jumping spiders, np...but no ! they have to be the biggest spiders that exist in my country...i dont care if they only eat rollypollies, they freaking love to walk on the wall 1foot away of my face when mi trying to fall asleep...
My first encounter with a jumping spider blew my mind - as despite being such a tiny little thing, they could very clearly SEE me from a distance and understood I was another creature of some kind (they kept backing up behind an object to hide from me as I tried to get a better look) Stole my heart immediately
A couple years ago I saw an interesting one on a staircase railing in a garden I was looking closely at it, it kept turning to face me, seems like it was looking me right in the eye It had a red patch on its butt, hadn’t seen that before Anyhow I left it where it was and went in the house Went to the kitchen And noticed the spider was on my kitchen counter !! Only thing I can think is that when I turned to walk away it jumped onto me And jumped to the counter when I got to the kitchen It followed me home ❤ I wish I’d kept it as a pet I just took it back outside to the spot I found it originally on that railing
So back in the day I broke my arm horribly and it required a serious amount of surgery and hardware to save my arm. A few years later the hardware started causing some bone spurs and more nerve damage, so I had it removed, and I asked to keep it. I turned it into a sparkly chandelier ornament that hangs in my window most of the year and on my Christmas tree during the holidays. It’s one of my most prized possessions. I totally feel the body part home decor. Best decorating tip I share with a spider. EDIT: Apparently people are misunderstanding me. I did not have my arm amputated, I just had all the hardware removed. My ornament is just a bunch of surgical plates, screws and pins hung together with fishing wire in a mobile. It’s not like I have a preserved limb. I highly doubt that’s even legal, as it would be considered a biohazard.
I remember I had one in my house, he lived behing my stereo tuner. I use to tap on the shelf and it would come running out because I would feed him a fly each time. He had the run of the house chasing down flies on the lamp shades, ... everywhere. He had no fear whatsoever of me and would jump on my hand and look at me. It astonished me that it was so smart as to recognize me as no threat and we roomed together for quite some time. One day he was just gone and I have to admit I was sorry for the absence as I regarded him with affection and fascination.
totally man. i feel most other spiders just think i am some obstacle, or a nice place to sleep. These dudes like turn around and look up at my face when i screw with them. It's so weird. I feel like they know i'm an animal rather than just the ground, or a wall. I've never been bitten by them.
@Magdelena Cloutier they ain't insects. but praying mantis also seem to be aware of us and they realize that your hand is somehow related to your head, etc. there are some very large ones though, that are kind of creepy compared to these little spiders. lol. i don't like them following me around with their heads. there's a guy on youtube who posts a lot of content with them and he's even shown one that he kept for its entire life. In a video he posted showing the mantis trying to eat cicada or something, the mantis gets attacked by the cicada and retreats onto the guys hand, which seemed pretty bizarre to me, but i suppose it makes sense one way or another. lol
@Magdelena Cloutier me and my kids were watching a little jumping spider on our back slider. I was having fun letting it follow my finger around when my son (who is 5) bopped the glass. The spider, no joke, bent it's head to look into the glass at us. Sat there for a good minute just staring at us
@@ysph I had one basically communicate to me that it wanted to go back outside. However it wouldn't let me carry it out through a door. I had to remove the screen to a window to allow it out.
I'm terrified of spiders But the way she talks makes me feel like they're so sweet and cute She just changes the way I see things That's why I like her
you can tell she has a passion for these interesting little critters! ^^ i grew up round milk and garder snakes and toads so they some of my fav but these littls fluffy guys helped me with my aracnophobia in a big way... still creept out by the hairless long legged skittery spiders, but jumpers are cute af!, look up australian peacock jumping spiders, they come in many colors and shapes and they dance! so cute.
At first i was terrified of snakes, now i really want to get one as a pet when i move into a place of my own! after I do some research, of course. Also I have now lost my fear of jumping spiders, kind of.
I learned today these are apparently the gateway spiders. They help you get over the fear of spiders quickly because of their demeanor amd adorable faces. Which is funny because that's why I ordered one online without knowing that little factoid. I just wanted to get control of my reactions, not jumping or freaking out. I love spiders just afraid to let them actually touch my bare skin.
@@Ayachan69 take it slow my good man, and youll achive it, i still get creept out by most spiders, but the fluffy curious lil jumpin spooders are cute, look up peacock jumping spiders, they are so colorful, they have little mating dances and unferl little fans and and sing to atract females, admitadly theyre singing are just vibrations below human hearing but its still so cute to see them in action dancing theyre lilttle hearts out.
I'm really afraid of spiders. One day I noticed a black jumping spider on the fence. On my way to work ,he would come out on the fence and follow me to my car. (Only a few feet). When I got home he'd be there and follow me back toward my house. This went on for over I weeI or more. I became attached to the little guy. One day he wasn't there when I got home. Here he beat me to the gate and I went to close it and too late, he got crushed by the latch. I was devastated . I went crying into the house.my husband told me I must be crazy. To this day, 10 years later, I still feel awful about it.
One thing at 7:50, I've been keeping spiders for a while now and, in my experience, you shouldn't put a cotton ball or sponge in their water dish. Most, if not all spiders can't drown and instead don't break the surface tension on water and just float. Cotton balls and sponges generally do nothing but act as a breeding ground for bacteria. A normal, appropriately sized water dish will do them just fine. As for feeders some people do put a small rock in their dish so the feeder can climb on it and not drown.
I was looking for this comment! I’m almost certain that in one of Emily’s expo vlogs, she talks to a tarantula seller who says you shouldn’t put a sponge in the water dish because they can’t drink off the sponge. If it wasn’t Emily’s vlog, it’s someone else well known in the herp circle of RU-vid.
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fNx8jmKZQ7I.html I found the video! It’s the lady from mostly reptiles, she says it around 4:30 for anyone curious :)
After encountering my first jumping spider, I instantly wanted to keep it. But i didn't know how, and put it back outside. Then I found your video! Just today I found a young jumping spider. i'm assuming it's a boy. I put him in a jar and looked up several videos to refresh my knowledge, and now I have a pet jumping spider! I named him Sailor. He's really liking his habbitat so far. I used a ball jar with one of those lids with very small holes in it so that there is air circulation. I put a piece of drift wood in for him to climb on, allong with a fake succulent. I used plant starter dirt stuff for the ground. Thank you so much for you video! Now I can say I have two goats, three cats, and a spider!! :D
I have arachnophobia and I watched this video some time last year, I now have 2 jumping spiders that I am obsessed with. I did think I’d be less freaked out by other spiders but instead atm I’m just putting mine on a pedestal while remaining scared of the others😅
EXACTLY OFIHDHDS a few years ago my mom found one in the house and gifted it to me for Christmas. At the time i was terrified of spider. Fell in love with him, rip wolfie. But now Im less afraid of spiders in general
Basically me 😅 I have really bad arachnophobia but I just asked my wife if we could get one (she has it worse than me) and she said she'll think about it 😀
I also have arachnophobia but would love to raise these, but I have a cat which would not hesitate to kill anything that moves so I need an isolated room for it.
SCP : You have to remember all the numbers and names and information about all of them??? Snake Discovery : You have to remember all the names, species names and information about them!?
I had a jumper on my motorcycle dash where the windscreen bolts on a few weeks ago. It seemed to enjoy the ride, turning and staring at the large one eyed spider (me with helmet visor down) and then turning and watching the road ahead. An hour and half later when I got to my folks' farm it looked around and descended from it's silk safety line. Hope you enjoyed the ride and the country with plenty of things to catch and eat!
but they're not moving like other spiders. means: they will run a little, stop to turn around an look at you,. step step, cute eyes looking at you, booty shake step step. you can dance with them!
I’ve got one in my room, his name is Barry (I was playing resident evil when I saw him) he just roams around my room and acts as free pest control, he likes to hang around the window, occasionally he will wander over to my desk and just sits on the wall looking at my pc and myself.
I have a little spider roomate too. He's not a jumping spider tho, he's just some tiny little spider. He likes to scare me. I swear every tine he startles me he's like "Hehe I gotchu hooman"
I have a jumping spider in my room too. I noticed him last Autumn, I fed him fruit flies (flightless) from the reptile store all winter, and gave him some spray water. He's free roaming. He's still here and it's Summer. He likes to roam 3 different rooms, even though he has access to the whole house, he's always on the ceiling or walls of those 3 :) He can go out windows too, but he never does.
timestamps for myself!! :) 2:33 where to find them 3:18 enclosures 5:00 substrate 5:20 decorating edit: There’s a jumping spider that lives in my backyard! She’s not a baby though so I’ve decided to leave her be. edit 2: I was at an event out of town and found a couple babies! Unfortunately I had nothing to keep them in so I had to leave them, but one of them jumped on my hand and chilled with me for a bit :))
Reasonable chance those babies were actually a totally separate species, maybe not, obviously the babies are smaller, However there’s many different species but in my experience it’s not common to find them until they are roughly half grown. Honestly there’s soooo many jumpers around, it would be shocking to us if we saw all of the ones that see us. Many are ant mimics that we just dismiss as an ant and don’t investigate, which is their goal. Just sitting outside quietly and watching usually reveals more of them than if I actually went looking for them
Emily: "oh you know you can use a display case like this, that were used for beanie babies. God I'm old" Me: That's the biggest mood I've ever felt gurl for real XD
@@rhys896 Mood is used to express something that is relatable, similar to "same". If something is especially relatable, one might say 'Big Mood.' This implies that your whole being is one and the same with whatever you are commenting on.
I used to be TERRIFIED by spiders (had a traumatic experience when i was young, grew up in an area full of wolf spiders and NOT the small ones) I joined a bug group on facebook years ago, and it helped me learn about spiders and other scary bugs. If you’re attempting to warm up to them a little, maybe help lower your panic, jumping spiders are the way to go! Cute lil buggers, I feel like they’re more predictable as their legs kinda tell you where they plan on going 🤣 I actually let them on me, never thought I’d see the day! (just the jumping spiders, i’m biased)
Yeah wolf spiders are insane dude. It’s a little intimidating that a spider would see a bipedal giant and think “ I think I’ll fight this thing now “ and it really isn’t afraid of you. It wants the violence
Cute. ?? That eight leg demon you described it has.... *CUTE* looking ??? Aight.....okay..... I guess....every one definition for "cute" sure.....fascinating
There's a big jumping spider in my garden and I usually give it flies I catch cuz I want to be it's friend, today I was doing the usual when I saw it caught a bee sized fly, I was so proud, I might make an enclosure for it lmao
Jumping spiders are so cute, and personable, you won’t be sorry. I have 10 tarantulas (so far) and I’m going outside to get another jumping spider tomorrow. My last one just died, so I’m getting another one. You can hand feed them also. I stun flys with a swatter, and feed the jumper. There’re like little assassins!!!
Do it It’s not like a tarantula Btw I’ve been looking at snakes because of how cute they can smile So I looked at videos And now just seeing that tongue is adorable Blep Blep Blep I kinda want a jumping spider And a small snake lol
Dank creeper [2nd channel] - Ball pythons are great snakes to start with. I have 4 (so far!!!) and a Pearl Island Boa. They both stay under 5feet, so they won’t overwhelm you with size. Ball pythons have a great docile temperment, so you’re not likely to get bit either, and if you do it’s not a big deal.I have 12 tarantulas now (just got 2 more last week) and they are mostly docile also, depending on the species.
@@jesperlivid9184 i'm sorry. Despite how adorable that spider was and idk how to write his name I will literally have a panic attack in his presence and I would rather have a day where I can actually function.
I think Jumping spiders are the most intelligent and most docile Spiders spiders don't go out and attack people but some are aggressive when approached because they feel threatened like the Funnel Web gets insanely mad when you are near it but Jumpers just look at you
I love all spiders, but I have to say that jumping spiders are my favorite. They're cute, they have great personality, and they're good for helping other people get over their fear of spiders. Edit: random but fun fact, jumping spiders can recognize their owners.
I hate spiders. Petrified. But I've wondered if I should try 1 if these guys. I'm in UK so would have to buy 1, too cold for them to live here. But I honestly cannot see it getting rid of my fear of the other huge creepy f*ckers that run around ya house, I just can't see it changing that. These are different all together.
@@carolinecoy3164 I know this is a little late, but without looking it up I have to think you have them, they are very common in Michigan and the rest of the northern U.S., and we're not any warmer then you guys! Edit, looked it up, you have 37 species of Jumping spiders in the U.K I bet there's on on the side of your house right now!(assuming you read this, and it's not mid winter!).
The varieties that you were featuring is the spider that help to get me over my rock a phobia….. with jumping spiders, and not panic when I see other ones. He lived in my office in the window in my desk. I was fascinated with him after a while. I was determined not to let this unreasonable fear rule me any longer. She was extremely good at getting rid of my flies that would come in periodically. This explains why she would sit on my desk and watch me work as a draftsman.
Luna Moon Hey I don’t mean to be rude but not every similar comment is copied! Unless it’s word for word then it’s probably just people having a similar idea (especially in this particular case - tons of people have arachnophobia!) and of it is word for word, then yeah that’s a bit scummy but in the end it’s not the worst thing ever. There’s no copyright for comments haha
The video: "jumping spiders will explore their entire habitat" my jumping spider: "i like this corner. I will stay here for all of eternity unless i am hungry, then i will sit near my corner and wait for food to come to me."
PLEASE HELP ME - I have a jumping spider, named Spooder. I got a great enclosure for her, planted grass and put in large sticks for her to jump to. I can't get her to eat. Our local pet supply store, they don't have any small crickets. I tried ants, stink bugs, and meal worms. She won't eat any of them. What do I do???
Really enjoyed this video, lots of clear direct info, minimum “advertising” even though it wasn’t sponsored, and offering cheap alternatives instead of pushing expensive products onto viewers!
wow this is perfect timing. I literally thought to myself when I woke up "I should get a jumping spider to add to my animals collection" and I found a big one in my house and then You guys come out with a video about them. Perfect timing
God I love jumping spiders. About the cutest little things ever. So many great interactions with these lil dudes. My favorite story is one day I was on my computer and this lil spooder dude jumped onto monitor and chased my cursor all over trying to eat it. Cutest thing ever. Thought the lil guy was hungry, lucky for him, I have a chameleon, so that also means I have feeder insects. So, the lil dude had a full belly when it was all over. 😊
I was sitting outside and went to smack a mosquito on the wall next to my front door, just as i went to hit it a jumping spider came out of nowhere and got it. I just went: 😱 aahh! 🤔wait, they eat mosquitos? 🤗welcome new friend, stay as long as you like
Hey, I have loved jumping spiders since I was about 4yo. Today I caught, photographed, and videotaped the most beautiful jumping spider I've ever seen. I really want anyone to help me identify him. I found him in the bathroom. As is typical when it starts getting cold outside. If anyone wants my pictures or videos just let me know. The little guy just made my day. I let him go in my living room because I hate flies and mosquitoes and jumping spiders are awesome.
The relationship you have with that little guy is honestly the most wholesome thing I've ever seen. I didn't think I could love you and Ed any more than I did Emily, but your respect and care for all forms of life is beautiful ❤
Nah, they most likely see us as moving mountains in a large landscape. Also, they can easily find prey when riding humans, and they don't even need to waste a lot of energy to travel large distances that way.
This just randomly popped up on my RU-vid recommended. I work outdoors almost entirely and I see these things everywhere. I've had tons of them crawl on me before, and simply watch me work out of their own curiosity. I've even caught bugs before to feed them, they always seem to appreciate it! I'm not the biggest fan of spiders, but these little creatures are OK in my book.
About a month ago I was in my swimming pool and I saw a little jumping spider drowning in it. Of course, I had to save him. At first he wouldn't move at all, I thought he was dead, but in a few minutes he slowly started to crawl around. I had just been watching this video the day before so I decided to take him in. I didn't have anything set up so I decided to add him as a little addition to my 30 gallon garter snake tank. It's a bio-active setup so there are lots of little isopods, springtails, and other small insects for him to feed on. He has made himself a little nest and every day I see him jumping around in the tank. His name is Bob. Update: RIP Bob (Don't worry it was the end of his life span and this was like a retirement home for him) Update #2: I got an other (regal jumping spider) and I need a name, any suggestions? Update #3 (Final Update): The new spiders is named Rex.
It's deff a bold jumper,I have 1 canopy,1 bold,1 orange phase regal, and we just recently caught a wild tan jumping spider and they are the friendliest and smartest spiders I've ever owned and I love my little guys,my wife builds enclosures and does tiktoks of them and they are just so photogenic..loved the video, keep up the great work
I am literally so scared of spiders that when I see one outside or even hear of one near me, like in the same house, I’ll scream to the point where my family thinks I’m dying. Lol. But anyways, I still watched this video because I love your channel.
Congratulations watching these videos are the best way to overcome your fear! It's a Type of behavior modification where as you get so used to seeing or hearing about them that your fear level drops because it becomes mundane/ordinary. Dark den and exotic lair are also other good ones to watch. Good luck on your path to surviving/ enjoying nature.
I suggest you watch Peacock Jumping Spider videos to help you further! They are colorful and full of character, and are fun to watch as they dance away. These little guys are renown for being adorable and could be helpful for overcoming your fears. :)
My first interaction with a jumping spider was as a young child, I accidentally caught one in my backyard instead of a small grasshopper. I remember opening my hands and being very surprised not only by the spider but by the fact that it was just chilling inside my hands and not freaking out trying to get away. It's been over 15 years and I'm still fascinated by these little guys, they're so smart and adorable
"ONE OF THE EASIEST AND BEST PETS TO TAKE CARE OF!" and "JUMPING SPIDERS" are literally two of the most contradicting things i have ever heard but i am intrigued
I had a pet jumping spider who lived in the house with me for 2 years. During the summer months, she lived in the window next to the AC and would catch the bugs that snuck in through the gaps. In the winter time, she moved down the hall to the back bedroom where the furnace is lol. I thought she had died the first seasonal change, but I caught her going through the hall a few times through the winter. She did finally pass though, I knew something was wrong because I found her in the bathroom sitting on the shelf and she wasn’t moving. She came to say goodbye.
If I ever get a jumping spider as a pet, which is very tempting 'cause they're cute af, I want to put it in an enclosure large enough to sustain a bonsai tree. I think that'd be adorable and beautiful.
That’s a really cool idea! The only issue is that some spiders can have a hard time finding their food in too large of an enclosure. That’s why the 4”x4”x8” size works well. I think it really depends on the individual though. I’m no expert, I have a jumping spider, but this is my first one. She sometimes will take a couple of hours to find a cricket in her enclosure and it is the size I just mentioned. I think it would be worth trying for sure, but just make sure if you do it, that the spider is eating 😊 I would love to hear how it goes if you do decide to try it!
I thought the same! I really would like to have multiple co-habit jumping spiders but as stated the females have a tendency to eat the males, so while I may try to learn to breed 'em at some point just to keep my own little generations of jumping spiders it's risky and I'll need to research before I ever get to that point.
I have a male and female jumping spider, he looks like a regal jumping spider to me. My female laid eggs and the babies have hatched, soon to emerge from the nest and I’m super excited. These cured my arachnophobia and are so fun to have!
Is your male jumping spider still alive? Because I know that JS females after mating enjoy having some dessert made of her mating male partner. Actually this is the same for majority of spiders.
I have to share. My daughter found an adorable little jumper 2 days ago and he is now proudly in a makeshift habitat on her dresser. She will go outside to hunt for his food right now and has named him LIGHT. We will be making a new habitat for him with a large-ish plastic container and lots of decoration. We will be getting him crickets soon as well. Such an adorable, spoiled little guy, along with our 7 birds, and 2 snakes, and 1 cat. :D
i recall the creator of lucas the spider saw a picture of a jumping spider up close. he thought it was actually really cute so he made a character out of it. so, i think lucas actually is a jumping spider.
When my daughter walked up and saw me looking at jumping spiders for sale, she said something along the lines of I better not even think of buying a spider as a pet. I showed her this video and now she's more ok with it. lol Thank you for all your educational videos. Especially these jumping spider ones. I already have 2 ball pythons. I might look into a jumping spider now thanks to this video.
i had no idea how incredibly easy it is. they are everywhere here in my state and i see them inside the house all the time. thank you for the lesson! they are precious!
Hey Emily and Ed! Emily! I’ve keeping tarantulas and inverts for years and sponges are very frowned upon in the hobby. The harbor tons of harmful Bacteria. Furthermore even the smallest second instar slings of any spider is extremely capable around and in water! More so than you think i promise!-------------///---------------- Please everyone use water dishes without sponges in your inverts enclosures.
they definately do recognize and some are more scared of us they each act different. they are a sight hunter that does not have a 100% accurate strike but it gets better with experience meaning they have memory. so they do remember humans and can be tamed some are easier to tame than others but they understand the hand that feeds them.
I do this with window sill jumping spiders as well, we have excellent conversations when I’m washing the dishes and making dinner. It has helped my kids not be scared of spiders and I love that they’re just little free-range pets
@@walmartian Can you tell me how can i tame them? i found one outside my house but it keeps running away from me, and it also tries to run away from the enclosure everytime i open it.
@@baohoang5197 Gather small insects from the garden, stun them a bit by tapping them lightly with your finger, then go to a windowsill where you've seen them, and place the insect on the sill where they can see it, eventually they wont be afraid of you, and will come out when they see you.
jumping spiders are basically spider-cats. - They're cute a.f., curious, don't really give a f. about theyr owner and hunt theyr prey by leaping onto them.
Umm That’s incorrect They do care about you You don’t know how to love your pet then Cats like to be left alone sometimes Cats are just introverted dogs Dog for extrovert Cat for introvert Anything for both
I was fascinated by jumping spiders as a child. The cuteness and curiosity got to me. Now, 60 years later I see their popularity soaring! I was amazed they were not obsessed with escaping me. Total curiosity.
Me 16 minutes ago: meh, I’m slightly arachnophobic, so I’m never going to have a pet spider, but I’ll watch anyway for Emily. Me now: And those enclosures can be found where, you say?
I used to have a pink toed tarantula. I had it for years. I would just leave it's cage open when I was home. It was probably the best pet I ever had. I just chilled my desk or in my shoulder while I played video games or studied. I think the fear of it comes without understanding it because I was a little uneasy about it at first. But I grew to look forward to hanging out with it every day after school and work. Spiders actually make decent pets but I wouldn't recommend them with kids.
same for me rebecca, there was a time were a tarantula or similar sneaked into my bedroom, once I noticed it I was so scared I had to leave the room and sleep elsewhere, but when it comes down to jumping spiders............ I've never, NEVER said this before about a spider but........ they are cute and I would let one walk on my hand if it wants to
I have extreme arachnophobia and entomophobia. So no. I’m already feeling things that don’t exist crawling on me, so I’ll stop here. Have fun with your future spider friend though.
"I don't want to anthropomorphize a jumping spider too much" *literally uses text to anthropomorphize the jumping spider the whole video* lmao I love it though he's precious
I’m watching this because I found one today!! I think the same one you have! He crawled right up to me scared me at first he jumped so did I but now he has a beautiful home! And I’m so happy to have him!
God creating Spiders with Gabriel: "Now lets give them 8 legs, eyes and fuzzy and hairy." Gabriel: "Sounds and looks weird but Humans like fluff I guess. They should like it" Humans *actually get spooked and are fearing them, asking:* "Why you gotta do us like this G-Man?" God: "Ok, you know what. Make one with Dog Software and give it two cute forward eyes" "That should salvage that"
Snakes are to dogs as spiders are to cats. Sneks and dogs: get from someone who knows their stuff. You choose them. Spooder and kitty: find outside in the bins, fluffy and stuff. They choose you.
I just impulsively bought my first jumping spider last night even though i don't have much knowledge on how to care for one. This video was extremely helpful, thank you so much! Sadly my container for him opens at the top by sliding with a little magnet to keep it secure, but so far he prefers the top of his bark to make a little nest. Hopefully it isn't too much of an issue. The container was only $18 so not too much of a loss if i need to get him a different one. I have a feeling he was dehydrated when i bought him bc the second i put his old container into his new one, i sprayed the side of one wall and he IMMEDIATELY crawled out of his old container to get water. I expected him to spend a lot more time adjusting and coming out of his old container that i bought him in.
Jordan Blue me too! Jumping spiders especially. Phidippus audax is my favorite. Real common I know, but so lovable. Had one living on the kitchen counter too.
Yeah, compared to other spiders, the jumping spider is very aware of larger organisms, like humans. That's why it would sometimes keep staring at you. I also have "free range" spiders that pay their rent by hunting pests like houseflies and mosquitos.
Do jumping spiders like living in the same spot? I keep my succulents and cacti outside for as much as the year possible (only bring them in during the winter). There's a jumping spider that likes hiding out in my haworthia pentagona plant. I mean, he's been living in the plant for quite a while now. I don't see a nest in the leaves though. I'm a huge arachnophobe, but I think I'm starting to like this little guy living in my succulent. He seems just as curious of me as I am of him.
Ive learned that a lot of small animals can be handled relativley safely as long as you move slow enough and don't do anything to make it seem like youll crush it.
Omg I'm so happy you guys made a video about jumpers! I have my own Phidippus Regius jumper male, whom I've named pixel, and I got him from a captive breeder roughly 6 months ago. He has been a wonderful lil friend and I can't recommend pet jumpers enough they are just so fun to watch and interact with! Pixel is my first jumper and I am hoping to get a beautiful female Regius some point in the future! Oh and here's a few tips for new owners! 1) If your jumper isn't acting interested in food try putting them near a light or in indirect sunlight! (Never put them directly in sunlight as it could dry them up) The bright light can sometimes stimulate there apatite. 2) If your jumper is acting lethargic or isn't as active as normal try giving them something sweet to drink like honeydew water or sugar water. they are opportunistic feeders and will drink fruit juice if they happen to come across it in the wild and the sugars in the liquid will usually perk them up! 3) Once again if your jumper isn't interested in food wait a couple days and see if your jumpers starts hiding in its hammock/Nest (the web blanket it will build) usually if your spider goes off of food and begins hiding that may mean it is going to molt! What is molting exactly? Well just like reptiles spiders shed there skin in order to grow! When a spider is going to molt it typically hides and refuses to eat and you need to make sure to leave them alone! Make sure the enclosure is nice and humid so they have an easier time getting there old skin off and don't bother them since molting is very stressful time and it's super important they get there molt off with no problems or else they could die. After your jumper molts they will stay in there hammock for a couple of days to harden up and they will be back to normal and most likely hungry! If you have any questions feel free to ask! I'm nor exactly an expert yet but I do now most of the basics and some tips if you need them!
I love jumping spiders! They're adorable. We have one who lives just outside our front door. He watches and follows, along the front of the house, when I'm working there. He's a curious little thing. We have several around our house. 🕷🕷🕷❤❤❤
Jumping spiders are so cute and they're a very intelligent species of spider! I love em! Thanks for this video cuz I've been doing a lot of research on how to care for one! 💗
Hello, tarantula/spider keeper here: Love your videos, keep it up! However, spiders can't drown. Do NOT keep a cotton ball and sponge in the water dish. This was only started because of pet stores who would dump crickets into the enclosure and didn't want them to drown and have something to nibble on, not the spider (you also don't want to dump prey items into an enclosure like pet stores do. The prey could start eating the spider when they need to molt). Hope this helps! :)
@@ambrosevictoria8229 Tarantulas breath air so they technically could drown but it essentially can't happen. The hairs on their body actually repel water which alongside water tension allows them to float and swim quite easily. Here are a pair of videos, one of which is from Exotics Lair, showing this in action: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5JTf8yhA24I.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ypbVctw8Cnk.html I haven't seen the Exotics Lair video you are talking about but I would assume his tarantula either died standing on/in its water dish or accidentally fell into a water dish while molting which is an absurdly rare circumstance.
One caution on that micro-habitat you mentioned: the hinged door allows a little hole where it slots in, and I found it big enough for both flightless fruit flies and my smallish bold jumper to wriggle out! Folks who use it may need to pack it with cotton balls.
I met one the other day as i was sitting at a table outside of my local Starbucks. It ran right up to me and was very inquisitive and friendly. I was shocked and glad that my eyes are now more open to these wonderful little creatures in our world. I just hope that no one harms the spider at Starbucks and that it keeps living for a long time.
