I have only 1 skinny pig....and she is very happy and healthy!..i threw out her cage a month after i got her and let her roam all over the apt...i couldn't stand seeing her in a cage...She sleeps in her tunnel beside my bed and then goes under my bed when i fall asleep and stays there till i wake up..very affectionate!...i call her to come over to see me and she does...just love this animal!..i have had her for over 2 years now

My username is maddie.1721 )so I am 15 with no job except for once a month and I get $20. That is enough to get me through 1 month. The brand I get "Kaytee" and I get a $6 bag of hay and the food is about $12. They need hay constantly to maintain nutrients and so you never know when they need more and you may need to spend even more than that depending on yours. They are a little messy but not that bad. On top of the $19 dollars for food and hay, I also spend about $30 on bedding about every 6 weeks. It gets a lot sometimes. They cannot have a heating lamp because it can burn them so I got a little heater that plugs in and it stays about 6 feet away from her and it stays about 73 degrees Fahrenheit at all times. My guinea pig has dry skin I also buy coconut oil which is about another $7. On top of this you need some fresh veggies. I give 1/3 cup of Finley cut up veggies about ever 1-1 1/2 weeks because her food already has dried veggies. My guinea pig was about $100 (they can be even more expensive than that) and the cage I bought came in a set with a little bit of bedding, water, food, food dish and so it added to about $250. They also need some attention if they are alone so they will squeak a lot. They also need a little house so they can stay in there to heat up. I also bought a fleece bed so she can warm up. You always need to make sure the bedding is the soft bedding that's almost like toilet paper. They start to stink about 2 days after cleaning the entire cage out so I like to do spot cleaning. If you are away from them for a long time and they are alone, they will squeak like crazy when you get home since they need attention. They are also nocturnal so they are noisy at night. This is just my personal experience. I've had a skinny pig at all times in my life
I just got a pair of 7 week old males. One's a skinny, and one's a guinea. It's crazy how smaller Mike (the skinny) looks compared to his cagemate, Tucker. Great video, very helpful!

i’m getting one this weekend edit: i got him, well i’ve had him for quite some time now. we also have a normal typical guinea pig but they really do not get along, we separated the cage when they were first introduced just so they could still smell eachother etc but weren’t overwhelmed and when we put them together they were okay to begin with but after a while the hairy one began to get more vicious towards norman-the hairless one- he’s even been scratched a few times! we can’t really separate them atm because the cage for eachother would be too small if we spilt it in half and that’s not fair on them, but do you have any suggestions or advice? we do t mind if they aren’t “best friends” but we obviously don’t want it to be a fish for one another
U should let them figure it out, I also own allot of cavia’s, u should let them be together for some while, and if that doesnt work I suggest u buy another cage, and separate them, while there together u should watch that they don’t kill eacother. Also a little tip, u shuold give them filtered water. Skinny’s can develope stones bye the kalk in the water. Happened with myn and they had surgeon, but died- so u should rll not give them normal water.

@@gaybowser4023 hi, wow! it’s been a long time, they tolerated each other, but weren’t awfully keen on each others close company, they had a little scrap when they first met but they never hurt each other, sadly my hairless guinea pig past away due to medical complications that are still unknown, we think he may of been the runt of the family, and we had to re home my other hairy guinea pig due to them needing a buddy, and unfortunately we couldn’t provide that again. i would personally recommend not mixing the breeds, but that’s simply just due to personal experience, i know other people who did, and it worked out brilliantly. if you are thinking of getting one definitely keep that hairless piggy very warm with heat pads hay and lots of blankets!
I'm considering a skinny pig or a Baldwin for my next guinea pig. When I got my first girl Plushie almost four years ago now I wasn't allergic. Now though I break out in hives if a guinea pig touches any higher than my palms. Cleaning them makes it hard to breathe and will leave me sneezing and sniffing for days sometimes. If I can even hold a guinea pig again without sleeves I'll be happy. They're my favorite animal and it brings me great joy to spoil them daily with vegetables and pets. I've already planned all the changes I would need for a hairless guinea pig. Fleece bedding, a heat pad on a thermostat in the hide and a low wattage heat light with no UV over the food dish for extra warmth. I do want to buy a quality one though when I make this step so it will live with me for years to come. Thanks for the advice for what to look for.

Mine just died and i need help i think she choked on her house she chews on it so i took it out for the other one hoping she would not do the same i got her a edible house but i dont whant the chewing to get worse thay are kinda young i provide plenty of toys and my vet says im doing i doing it right but i think that im doing it rong pls help
I was at pet smart getting supplies and I seen hairless guinea pigs. They were so cute and I also wanted a hairless cat but they can be expensive. So now I want a hairless guinea pig. I didn’t get one at petsmart because I didn’t know anything about them and I heard petsmart has unhealthy animals
i have a skinny pig and a normal hairy piggy too, but they don’t rlly get along, they used to fight, but they don’t as much anymore, but they still make angry noises etc. they are both naturally very calm piggies just not rlly when they are close together. we have had them for about half a year now, and we kept them separate for the first few weeks(just with a grid sort of thing dividing the cage so that they could still see/smell each other. do you have any advice?❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
3:41 I had skinny pigs a few years ago, and we used to use ceramic heat bulbs. They are kind of like heat bulbs but they have no pigmentation. They give no light or UBV but can warm up a cage quite nicely.
u don't use heat bulbs for guinea pigs or skinny pigs that can case them to died if you want u can always make little shirts for them out of of cloths you don't use
@@lottiexox951 that is not true because even a pet store will tell u they cant regulate there temperature u can put stuff on them too i am specking the truth
animal lover I understand that but these breeders are my friends and people I haven’t personally bought off. Skinny pigs can Over heat if they shirts are left on them, they should only be used for a photograph. A safe option is a fleece snuggle bag, they can chose when to go in and out and isn’t a risk of getting stuck on them or even strangling them x
I have a question conserning my skinny pig. I believe I've had him for a little over 3 weeks and a small abrasion has turned into a larger scab type thing on his side. It doesn't seem to bother him and it doesn't look serious but I can't find any information on what it could be. I'm thinking that it is just from peeing in the thing he sleeps in and that's irritating his skin but I'm not quite sure what to look up or how to treat it. Would you mind giving me some clarification on what you think it might be? It's not a lump or bump it's just a raised scab looking thing sort of like an ingrown hair but on a part of him that doesn't grow any.
is a 27X55 inch cage good for two female skinny pigs? can i give them one small cut up piece of fruit every day or only once a week? ik this video was take a little while ago, but ty! very helpful in this
That size is good for 2 pigs, especially 2 girls. You should probably only feed fruit once or twice a week, as every day can cause them to gain weight from all the sugar
Also what cage do i get if i dont want it on the floor like one raised up? I can't get one super expensive but i would like one so if i get one its safer
Be aware that skinny pigs aren't hypoallergenic! You should meet skinny pigs in real life and see if they will cause you any symptons. Skinny pig's skin will usually cause symptons to allergic people. Also remember that skinny pigs can grow a lot of fur! However there are a completely naked guinea pig breed. Baldwins are born with fur but lose all of it before they turn five weeks old.
