The best 8 minutes I've spent to improve my skiing. I've done the exercises in this video, and they have worked better than anything before. I can now carve!

Tip 4: the inside arm should always be in front of you. Never leave it behind or drag it behind. Tip 0: find the best snow possible. Well groomed. Then you’ll have 35% of carving done

Nacho Aguado Counter-rotated tuck turns (like tucking in a downhill) work really well to learn how to carve. It forces the skier to make a smooth transition into the carve and keeps from allowing the skier to use excessive up and down weighting. When I coached Junior Devo, I had my kids do tuck turns and it instantly made a difference with their ability to get a clean carve going. And by emphasizing the counter rotation and pointing the upper body away from the direction one is turning towards, it helped get them to understand where the balance point was and not over-rotate. It helps get the feet and skis doing the right thing and make smooth transitions in and out of the turn.

False. Keep your both arms front of you and keep them on the same level but yea you should not let your arms get behind of you

I am a trainer in a completely different field and I have to credit Kurt for his briefing technique. A really well balanced tone, not condescending or patronising , an open style leaving room for questions or confidence building input. He follows an important rule in working to his trainees needs and starting from where the trainee is. Too many of these types of video are about the trainer. "Look how good I am this could be you!" In this one you actually believe it could! Now let's see if I can do any of this stuff.

If I understood correctly, following wording may be simpler to understand: Tip 1: Point your both hands towards the downhill instead of your moving direction (this helps to keep your upper body in correct orientation). Tip 2: Always keep you upper body pointing upwards instead of leaning inside the corner. Leaning only your legs increases the grip. Tip 3: Keep the tips of the skis next to each other during the turn (it's a common mistake is to push inside ski forward compared to outside ski).

its about learning how to counter after the turn
@doobyitsred1784
@doobyitsred1784 5 лет назад
Im pretty sure Tip 3 is wrong. Its a common mistake to push the tips too far apart. The reason why your inside ski pushes forward is to help the hips get the correct position and knee position. If you other knee doesnt move out the way you get that huge angle on the ski. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-09GRD0YRnYk.html here is a slow mo of Lindsey Vonn. Your skis have to be aligned though. You have to try keep them parallel but as you see in the video when you pushing hard your skis do bounce around.

luke wade Tried this other day for first day of 2019/2020 season and definitely noticed difference in a positive way. Not sure instruction directed at high speed tight slalom turns as viewed in Vonn clip but more so for the recreational skier allowing bit of patience for the ski to do as intended. May not work in all instances but Try it and see what you think.

Tips 3: my legs do not understand :P I cannot, what so ever, manage to keep my skiis\legs together when going in to a turn. If i try to keep my skiis together, i only loose balance :S

“Have a lunch.” That’s a new one. Known here in Canada as a “yard sale.” Your gear spread accross the area for other skiers to browse through. That’s me. But no more, I’ve been shown the light! Thanks guys.
@redhedkev1
@redhedkev1 6 лет назад
I first heard "Yard Sale" in Wyoming, not sure where it originally came from. But, my understanding of a proper "Yard Sale" is when you crash so hard your equipment is everywhere, looking like...a yard sale. It was mentioned to me from a local who watched me wipeout big time at Jackson Hole.

Really liked the general points you made in this video. Takes into account that most people are not skiing on skis that are specifically purposed for carving, like the race skis or all mountain carvers that I use, but that there is still potential to experience this on the wider recreational equipment that's out there. I think that the only real restriction this can be the width of the slope you are on as to how successful the skier will be, particularly in the exercises which are great by the way. For example the narrow runs mostly found in the central and eastern ski areas of Canada aren't conducive to completing the turn in this fashion and unfortunately promote a much straighter line and far less balance against the outside ski and eliminate the corresponding bending (loading) of the ski that we see in this video. The skier than takes this technique into the mountains with the obvious results (less speed control by using the turn shape and more reliance on friction from skidding skis) which in turn is the upright stance or body position you see in most skiers. Still believe that learning to carve on this more limited terrain is best done on skis designed for the purpose but liked this video and its simple and easy to follow corrections. Thanks.

This was a good one. I really liked it! it took me a while to get the feel of how much pressure to put on this skis through the transitions of the turn. also the harder you put the pressure on can lead to some pretty hard falls for me at least when exiting the turn. You really have to get forward when you changing the skis/turn. and keep strong, carving is really physically demanding.

The video is appreciated for it's own merits and it does that we'll. I've had the pleasure of engaging several 3..4 yr olds on the skating rink this year I pushed each one on their bottoms with a good snow shovel around a small rink for a couple of laps. I then drop the shovel and encouraged each one to pick up the shovel and follow me. Each one succeeded in walking with confidence within a few minutes ...nothing else needed.

Good video. I live and ski in Utah. Greatest snow on earth. I wear a helmet but it's never done anything except protect my head when people lower the chairlift bar without my knowing. I'm sure most of the people complaining about others not wearing helmets are unaware of a blatant statistical fact. All the studies on helmet use while skiing have NOT shown a decrease in reportable head injuries over not using a helmet! Hard to believe, but true. We had a 20yo male skier die at Park City on 12/31/19. He was on an intermediate run, going way too fast for his ability, wearing a helmet, hit a small jump, and slid face first into a tree. The helmet did nothing as he died from a head injury. Skiing under control is probably 100 times more important than wearing a helmet.

Tip 3: Dang I never thought that might have been the problem. I think i've had the same exact symptoms where I felt like my outside ski was going its own direction, probably down the slope, and couple of times that has caused me to have a yard sale. This was especially frustrating because I was trying my hardest to put my weight on the outside ski and point my body down the slope, but I didn't catch this. I think if I had focused on keeping the tips together, I would have found more success. Any potential ski trip is 5 months away so I can only dream.
