I am so glad to hear this, Melinda. Maybe someday you'll get the urge to try some carving yourself. Starting on EZboard makes it quite easy! Thanks for commenting.
I always thought trivets were meant for hot pots and pans. Put a hot pan on that and you will now have a nice paint chip carving pattern on the bottom of the pan. Or have a beautiful carved, permanently attached trivet on your pan. Not sure that regular spray paint will be able to take the heat.
I'm thinking that a fry pan gets way hotter than 200F. I found 2 different melting points for HDU, one at 200F and one at 300F; not sure what your is. Someone might put this next to the stove and put a hot skillet or fry pan on it. I was just pointing out that there is potential for making a mess of lot of hard work, if the trivet were used for the wrong thing. I like the idea of using acetone to transfer designs. I know that it melts copier toner, because I have had cabinet plans become illegible in my cabinet shop by throwing a rag with acetone on top : >(
Thanks for your insights. I did some more research and found that EZboard/HDU is stable until 500F. You are correct that fry pans can get hotter than 200 degrees so users would need to let the pan cool a bit before placing directly on the trivet. There is the potential for a mess, like you said if a really hot pan was placed directly from the burner onto the trivet. I'll point this out on my product page. Thank you!
Hi Michael, I'm carving High-Density Urethane available from ezcarving.com. It is softer than basswood, holds great detail and will not warp, crack or twist under any conditions. Give it a go!
Where can I find one of the "hard Rubber rollers" you used transferring the pattern onto the EZ board? Will this also work to transfer patterns onto wood? What were the dimensions of the piece of EZ board you used and where can I get the pattern? Thanks, great videos!
Hi Rick, An easier way to transfer patterns onto EZboard is to use the Pattern Transfer Tool. Available at ezcarving.com as is this trivet pattern. The trivet is 7-1/2 x 7-1/2 x 3/4" with buttons on the bottom for feet. Glad you like the videos.
It's called a brayer, and is used for spreading ink when printing lino and wood cuts and lead type. I would say any art store that carries printing supplies should have it. Great transfer method. Will have to try it.
The pattern is part of the Pattern archive at mychipcarving.com and is available to all Platinum members. A basswood trivet blank could also be purchased with a pattern applied. (mychipcarving.com/product/trivet/)
