I literally almost cried I learned how to do the cast on method in under 30 minutes. I have autism so this was a big accomplishment for me. I found discounted yarn at Walmart for 71 cents. Thanks for the upload
I'm 13 yrs old and my mum called me an old lady for picking up knitting as my new hobby aha! xD I like it though, it's really calming and it helps with my adhd a bit 😌✨ Remember hobbies are for everyone, no matter your age! Just give it a go and try your personal best at it! You've got this everyone :D♡
Thank you so much! My mom had a stroke a couple of months back and she's struggled to get back into knitting & crocheting. She had so many beautiful projects going before the stroke. She watched this video and the beginning knitting one this evening and she was off knitting again. I cannot fully express how big a desk this is. Thank you
Did she forget how to do it for a bit? I'm so glad your mom is better. I just lost mine in March. I'm also glad she's back to knitting. Strokes are horrible.
I WAS DESPERATE TO KNIT BUT MY MOM WONT BUY ME MATERIALS SO IM USING PENCILS AS NEEDLES AND SOME OLD YARN FROM A BDAY PARTY AND ITS ACTUALLY WORKING Edit: I got needles and yarn already :)
Wendy Crawford Oof I just bought the stuff and the scarf is looking good! Besides, I live somewhere in Asia (I’m under 18 so I don’t wanna share my location) no need for anything!
This is my third time trying to knit. Mum taught me as a child (I did the stitches though, I didn’t cast on), once in 2019, and now in 2022. I’ve become much more comfortable with crochet, and now I think I’m ready to attempt knitting again. Thanks for this easy and fun tutorial!
YAY..... someone who knows how to cast on without tying peoples hands and brains in a KNOT!!!! You are only the second person I have found on RU-vid to use this so simple and easy THUMB method... This THMB is how my grandmother taught me as a child..... she was an avid knitter and crocheter all her adult life, won many prizes for her work... I sit and watch all those complicated methods and shake my head, why would you cast on any other way than the THUMB method
My mum taught me the thumb method too! (I had just forgotten some of how to do it but it came back to me). Her mum used to knit pullovers as a job in Ireland mid last century, didn't get paid much though. Unfortunately I seem to have been taught the English method of knitting which is slower than Continental, Shetland etc etc so I will have to retrain my muscle memory somehow. I would rather do things more efficiently, knitting is so slow for me!
hell yes, quarantined at the moment and bored out of my mind... I have had /many/ people try and teach me how to knit in my life... cannot believe it’s this simple
I've been crocheting for about 8 years and finally decided to take the plunge and learn how to knit! Your video is such great quality and very thorough, thank you for making it!
I have struggled to learn how to knit and crochet and I decided to try again to help with anxiety to be able to lower my meds. As well and not think of pain from other issues. This is the most clear I have seen so far. I made it past one or two stitches without wanting to quit!
Wow! A video that actually shows you in "slow motion" how to knit as an actual "know nothing" beginner. Most other tutorial videos go waayyy too fast for us true beginners. Kudos for making this so easy to follow and repeating the steps slowly so we can actually follow along without having to drop our yarn and pause the video 20x, lol. Well done! I have subscribed and will be watching all your videos so I can learn to knit.
Haven't knitted in years since I switched to crocheting. I remember watching your videos when I was still new a couple of years ago, and learning again today unlocked a new world! Thank you so much for uploading this, it's amazing!
My grandma taught me how to knit when I was very young, but now, 20 years later, I need a bit of a refresher on the basics. This video was so helpful- it was just what I needed to jog my memory of this skill I once had. Thank you so much for sharing!
I really like how you’ve covered all the basics of learning how to start to knit - estimating how much yarn to use for casting on, how to create a slip knot, and the actual casting on as well. Thank you! This is something I’ve had to watch multiple videos to get all of this information that is all included in this one, very well explained tutorial! Do you have a video on how to join a new ball of yarn onto the work which is coming to the end of the first ball? That might be helpful as well!!
Thanks so much! I'm glad the series has helped you out! This is a video I made about joining a new ball of yarn: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-I_cHO6R_MBc.html Incidentally, I'm also working on another new video about joining yarn. Should be published next week!
Omg, after watching so many tutorials for beginners on how to start a cast on. They were either to fast or complicated. But your tutorial was precise, slow, and to the point. Thank you so much, you helped me big time. These other bloggers need some tips from you😊❤
Thank you! I haven't knitted in years and couldn't remember how to cast on - this was so clear and slow, exactly what I needed. My fingers have the hang of it now.
Goodness this is the only video I've found that actually simplifies the process down to where I can actually understand the steps when it comes to knitting
Thank you for making such a high quality, easy-to-follow video (under 10 mins) and for doing the moves slowly and explaining each step. I must have watched 10 videos before this and couldn't figure out the cast-on let alone move on to the knit/purl. Thank you for saving me from quitting before I even started!
Thank you ! My grandma taught me this like 20 or 15 years ago and I had forgotten. I was using another method but feeling and remembering it wasn't the "right" one ! Then I found your vid and it all came back to me ! It was very well explained!
Hi. I've just started this video as I received a knit your own scarf... I have Dyspraxia, Autism and ADHD, and this is the best video I have seen. Your voice is so calming and I want to thank you for an easy to follow video! Xx
Absolutely phenomenal instructions! Slowly, throughly shows and tells EXACTLY what to do and how to move your hands, then repeats so you may not have to back up and rewatch!
I was so proud of myself--and then wondered why my tail seemed to be getting longer, not shorter... I had been winding the wrong length of yarn around my thumb the entire time! 🤣🤣🤣 Other than that it was perfect haha. Thank you for such an easy to follow tutorial, I paid more attention and did it the right way the second time!!
For years now, I have been recommending your cast-on videos to people who are trying to learn how to knit! This one and the long-tail cast-on one were what finally got things to click for me after many failed attempts. You have a real gift for making something confusing into something that is easy to understand!
I have tried to learn to knit several times in the last 10 years. This is the first tutorial that has made sense....super easy & fun. I can now cast on! I’m looking forward to your other tutorials & finally learning to knit.
I am trying to learn to knit to make a baby blanket for photoshoots trying to start my company and two of your videos helped me tremendously!! I've tried to teach myself knitting so many times. Your videos have been the only ones that truly helped and I can't thank you enough!!
Thank you! I'm legally blind and learning how to knit so I can keep crafting even with less eyesight and this was such a helpful tutorial with the close ups and bright yarn and instructions. I actually cast on a row (mess but there) on my first try and I'm off to go watch more of this series. Huge appreciation for such helpful instructions for us newbies.
Wow, after a while of just crocheting, I’d completely forgotten how to cast on while knitting. This video is amazing, perfect for anyone, especially beginners!
This tutorial made casting on so easy. I know so many other knitters that complain about how complicated casting on is, but after doing it with this video… I was like “is it seriously that easy!?” Thank you!!!
You are such a good teacher! I’ve watched all of your beginners videos, they are all easy to follow and engaging. Can’t wait to get good at the basics so I can take on some fun projects!
You are an incredible teacher!!! You get to the point, show and explain exactly how to do something and and take your time make learning (or re-learning) possible!!! I used to knit with my gram, but forgot the basics… thank you so much!!! I have post concision syndrome, so it’s difficult for me to process, but your slow, thoughtful approach helped to remember how!!! Thank you!!! Thank you!!! 💕💕💕
Ummm.....what “proper” way? There IS no “proper”way, other than that it works for the purpose you’re using it for. I was taught to cast on this way and I see no good reason to complicate things.
As someone who has tried multiple times to teach friends to crochet, you do an Excellent job teaching how to do yarn work. You dont realize how much skill it takes to teach yarn work until you do it. Thanks so much for helping me expand my yarn work skills!
I’ve known how to knit for awhile and I always had to my grandma cast one for me. Every tutorial didn’t show every step in full detail and now i know how to do it independently this helps so much. And reminder if your a beginner you can do this!
This was the only tutorial where I not only got the first few loops actually cast but was able to do it myself easily after watching you cast twice. I’m so excited to start this new journey. Thank you for taking me the first few steps
My mother knit all her life, and every year she would knit hats and mittons to donate at Christmas to local charities. She passed last year, and I'm learning to knit to continue her tradition of giving! Your tutorials are wonderful, thank you for helping me honor her generous and kind spirit! ❤
Of all other videos I've seen, trying to learn cast on was difficult for me. This video however, was the easiest and most understanding cast on tutorial yet. Thank you so much, I know my mother will love this! 😁❤️
I've knitted countless scarves but cast on still confuses me, and I find myself coming back to this video with every new scarf. Thank you so much for providing this resource for knitters from every skill level, your videos are so clear and easy to understand
I live in a senior apartment community and yesterday they held an hour to get together and knit. I ended up being the instructor and taught this method of casting on which I love. I’m glad this tutorial is here as I will recommend it. I’ve knitted since I was 5 and love it.
I picked up my needles last night and grabbed some yarn from my crochet bag and went to town following your videos. Today I have a decent little start and I’m already feeling more comfortable with the motions! I’ve shared your videos to a friend and told her to try as well! My husband saw and went to Amazon to buy me a kit to work with! LOVING IT! Your how to videos are great and I look forward to watching and learning many more knitting skills/techniques from them! Thank you!
Love your videos, my mum taught me how to knit but I have a really bad memory and always forget how to cast on and off😅. I hate asking her every time as I'm currently makeing a blanket out of a bunch of small squares. The fact your videos are so simple and well structured means I usually only need to skip through them to remind myself of what to do. ❤
This was so easy to understand! I'm finally teaching myself how to knit after crocheting for years and I thought knitting would be so easy but it's taking me a minute to learn 😅 thank you for this beginner video!
OMG..this is the first video that shows a clear way to do the long tail cast on. I was practically standing on my head trying to learn with the other videos..( exageration a bit ) but it was not clear with other videos. Thank you !
Your videos are cheerful and perfectly explanatory! I'm just learning and feel confident about starting a project....after I practice more lol. Thanks for this series and tips!
Aw! You're so welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. My feeling is that knitting should be FUN, so I try my best to include that energy in the videos!
my mother taught me how to knit this week when I was visiting but she did the cast on for me. Now I'm back home again and I wanted to learn how to do cast on so this was really helpful, thanks!
Thanks for this tutorial! It's the most helpful one I've seen so far. You made sure to go slow and easy since we are beginners and I'm very thankful for that! ^^
HOLY SHIT!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH! I've literally been trying to start learning to knit, but no matter what books I bought and read, or videos I watched, I could NOT figure it out. You are a sanity saver, and I can not thank you enough! I have been regretting not learning from my grandma since she passed 2 years ago. When I was young, she always did the cast ons for me, and I only remember the basic knit stitch. I've made several attempts, but none worked until now.
When we where having a party at my aunts house I saw a stick like that so I took it washed It and here I am I can actually use it and I’m really happy😅😁
I always wanted to learn how to knit or crochet but I couldn’t find any videos how to till I found this one it was so easy and if I never saw this vid It would be so hard. Thank you so much
THANK YOU! I had been trying to cast on for so long using another method. I am a total beginner and I got the hang of this FIRST TIME without feeling like you were patronising me. Ready to start knitting a scarf for my best friend now and it's all thanks to you!
Really? What part is troubling you? I was able to get the first on right away. I actually came here looking for specifically that. Maybe we can help you if you describe your problem.
@@mollyiscool5008 Sad it is. The internet is such a place that we must ask strangers not to come at us in replies. LOL>... I assumed the breakdown was from attempting the cast on. Though it could just be a random cry for help.
I haven’t knitted anything in over 3 or 4 years and I wanted to try again, but my memory is shit so I didn’t remember how to cast on! This video not only taught me how to start again, but it showed me a was that’s undoubtedly easier than however I was doing it before! Thank you so much for posting this!
i really really hope somebody can help me with this, because i'm so frustrated i feel like quiting knitting forever now. whatever i do my cast on turns into a SPIRAL, wich results in my knitting turning into spiral instead of a straight line, like it's supposed to. the sad part is that i've knit a whole shawl before, and everything worked out? i am using a thick yarn for 8mm needles.
I was having the exact same issue. Checkout the knitting for beginners by the Hobby Lobby channel. She does it very similar, but skips one step that was causing this twisting, and achieves the same outcome. I was getting very frustrated too, made all the difference. Mine are completely straight now.
this is the first video I've found that didn't make me feel like learning to knit was going to be impossible 😭 every other cast on tutorial i've watched made it seem so complex, but you explained it so clearly and i got the hang of it in only a few minutes! thank you so much for your wonderfully helpful explanation 🫶
This is how I was taught 55 years ago. I have not seen anyone else, since then, use this method,. All the others seem so complicated to me, this one so simple.
This was an amazing source and I’m happy I clicked on this video first. I visited my family and they really enjoy knitting so I learned for two days and now I’m in the car driving home wondering how to even start. Wish me luck!
I wanted to knit for years. But I wasn’t sure where to start. I watched so many videos on how make a cast on a while ago, and for some reason none of them helped. I lost hope. I tried picking it back up again yesterday and saw this video. I CANNOT THANK YOU ENOUGH ❤❤🎉🎉 this actually was so simple and easy to follow, and when I started knitting more stitches I was OVER THE MOON I felt so proud. But I could not have done it without your videos 🥹
Thank you so much! My daughter asked me to knit her something..i used to knit years ago but oh my, I found i’d completely forgotten the cast-on technique! Lovely simple instructions, thank you!
