in this episode I go over what I believe to be the easiest, most effective and productive way to catch False Albacore, AKA Bonito. I go over in detail, years worth of research on how to fish for them, where to find them, What time of year to target them, what rigs to use, and what gear you'll want to use to bring home this abundant and prized bait fish of the reef's edge. Ever wanted to go out and catch False Albacore, but you didn't even know how to get started? what to look for? How to get into the bite and have some fun? Or maybe you're a seasoned pro just looking for some inside info or a different perspective... Then this episode's definitely for you.
Enjoy,
Tight lines & good vibes.

My favorite way of catching false albacore here in NJ is casting either a 4” Tsunami spilt tail in calm water or the 5” version when there is a chop. My set up is a GLoomis E6X 844F matched with a Daiwa Back Bay Saltist spooled with #15 braid and a topshot of either #15 or 20 flurocarbon. Throwing Albie Snax soft plastics and small spook type p[lugs also are very productive.

Thanks a million for watching and sharing. I truly appreciate it and your support for the channel. Yea, fishing for them up north is quite a bit different from down here. They'll run up on your beaches. Here, they get close, but not really much closer than a couple hundred yards... I've found them in as shallow as 20 ft. Thanks again for sharing your info, always great to hear different perspectives on a similar subject. Tight lines & take care ;)

Thanks a million for watching and leaving some great feedback. Always a true pleasure hearing from you and receiving some great compliments. I sincerely can't thank you enough. Fishing for bonito doesn't produce food for me, but it produces a great time, especially on light gear. Thanks again for everything you do for the channel. Tight lines & take care ;)

Hi Heath, The surface and hi-speed trolling looks like fun. Bonito are really fun to catch and put up a good fight. Thanks for the detailed video. You always include everything you need to know. From knots, line, rods, lures and most important, when and where to fish. The only thing that's missing ; is me in Florida !!!!!! Hope everyone's well at home. Say "Hi" to Avi and the "Fishing Girls." Hope you have good weather this week. Take care and good luck, Mickey

Hi Mickey, thanks for watching. The kids all say "Hi Mickey". Yes, you in Florida would be awesome. I can honestly say, light tackle fishing is some of the funnest fishing, especially when the fish out-classes the gear. It's funny, I listen to everyone, and really try to include as much info in a short period of time as I can. But there's always some other details I can get. Everyone is done well here, hope the same for you and your family. I'll talk to you on Sunday. Take care ;)

Always look forward to the notifications. Here in Indonesia of course we don't have the Atlantic false albacore but we have the tongkol aka mac tuna aka kawakawa. The fish is very similar in terms of size and habitat (reefs) as you described in the video. The tongkol is a very important fish for traditional fishermen and tons are consumed every day, usually as smoked or salted fish and my favorite roasted over charcoal from coconut shells. People here would freak out at the thought of it as a trash fish that's only good for bait!

Thanks a bazillion for watching and always sharing. Great hearing your stories and way of life halfway around the world. Bonito is definitely not a trash fish. I have eaten them, and know folks who love them. I guess I just have my favorites. But they are a million dollar bait fish here. My freezer is always stocked with it. Thanks again for everything you do for the channel and making it what it is and will become. Means the world to me. Thanks again sincerely. Tight lines & take care ;)

@@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing Thank you, I plan to do some surf fishing because it’s cheap and free,. I’m going to take one heavy rod and then a light rod, hopefully I can catch some bait or use some shrimp to catch some fish and then I’ll cut it up and put it on the big rod for a red fish or shark. Do you serve fish at all?

Great video 👌 I have a question are small chunks of false Albacore any good bait for Mangrove and yellowTail fishing on the reefs ? I sometimes catch them and let them go 🤔 Once again thanks your videos are very informative and I have done great following your advice .
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing 3 года назад
Thanks a million for watching and asking a great question. The chunks most definitely make excellent snapper bait. Mangroves, yellowtail, muttons, they all eat it. It's some of the best bait there is. If you catch them, don't throw them back. You'll want to fillet them, and keep the slabs, just bring one out and cut it up as you need it. Next thing you know, you'll be fishing for them, just so you can have them as bait. Thanks again for your support of the channel. I truly appreciate it. Tight lines & take care ;)

Love those chunky slabs👍. What size buck tail do you recommend?
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing 2 года назад
Thanks a million for watching and leaving some great feedback. My favorite bucktail jig sizes are half ounce and three quarter ounce. Any bigger and the fish tend to not bite them as much. Bonito make some of the best bait in the ocean. They make slabs, chunks, strips and Chum... Can't ask for more from one fish. Thanks again for your support of the channel I truly appreciate it. Tight lines & take care ;)

No strip bait needed. Just use the lure. High speed trolling. When they hit, there's nothing else quite like it. Thanks again.
