I once came upon a young boy with a mud crab latched to his hand. I had to snap off the claw and even then loosening its hold took a bit of strength. He was good until I got it off him. Then I had to try to calm him. Pretty fcked up situation. I wouldn't have that boy filming so close to such a flimsy way of catching these guys.
Thanks for your comment Aaron. The female was returned unharmed. It depends on what state you are in as to whether it is legal or not to keep the jennys, but as a rule, we always return them.
mikey e Not sure if you should be calling me an idiot when you don't know what you are talking about. Happy to answer any questions if you would like to know the rules or location I am catching Muddies.... This is filmed in WA where you can't use crab traps as you do in QLD, only hoop nets or a hook. I am a stickler for the rules and over the year traveling and fishing sent research back to aid the fisheries in numbers and locations of all my catches.
I love the other two young boys. They would never eat female because they always think about further. Females carry eggs. If u eat females how can u have crabs to eat in future. They are younger and smarter
Thanks for your comment Miami. The female was returned unharmed. Like the other two young boys you are referring to, we also always return the females for future crabs. It is a good rule to live by, glad to know there are others out there that feel the same :-)
Thanks for your comment Ryan. Be careful catching them by hand. Don't let it get hold of you or you could lose a finger. And even when dead, don't put your fingers near the claws as they can still do just as much damage. Good luck :-)
Coz in many places they ARE illegal. This guy is either in Western Australia or Northern Territory... all other Australian states it's illegal to use hooks coz they can stab & kill under sized crabs. It's also illegal in many states to take female crabs.
Thanks for your comment Ruvnesh. It states it in the video that we did put the jenny back unharmed. And no, legally you don't need to put all jennys back, it depends on what state you are in. But for the record, we do put them back.
Here we use rafia string to "strangle" the crab, way easier than this hook. Not to mention he should just kill the crab in the process since he snapped its pincers off.
Isn't there good reason why taking females is illegal. Seems even just ripping her claws off would interfere with her spawning. This is brutal. MAJOR THUMBS DOWN..
Guys don't feel like it was destroying the crab when the claws were ripped off. They grow back and loosing their claws is natural from fighting with other crabs. And also this guy was probably eaten soon after anyways.
everything about your crabbing is suspect it is illegal to take females and the claws off females I hope to god you get caught one day and this video is used against you in court
Let's see ur ass do a video then there big ass crabs for u do it by hand they will try to pitch u if u did get pitched it would hert I caught one I got pitched and it hurts so let's see ur ass catch a mudcrab
To everyone whinging about ripping the claws off . This is what I always do to every female I catch as it is illegal to keep the females. The claws have the tastiest meat and as long as you rip them off it can't be proven where they come from. The crab gets to live and I get some meat. Everybody wins.
+Tom tonka Mate it is illegal in QLD to possess crab claws without a Male crab they are from, not sure about other states but in QLD ripping claws off a female is completely illegal. also a bitch move
MrEricdouglas1 Really? Why am I the reason? Did you even read my post? I don't take them just their claws you piece of shit. Cry me a fucking river nancy.
Yeah and you are breaking the law idiot. Not only are you damaging the crab, the stress caused by losing claws can stop them spawning. On top of that removing both claws induces a molt which they have less than 50% chance of surviving. Go read a book you uneducated bogan.
