How to catch Redclaw Crayfish from the shore
Please read your local Fisheries regulations about catching crayfish, here in Queensland you are allowed 4 traps/pots with no size and bag limits on the redclaw themselves. The feed shown here fed 3 people twice.

More Redclaw in the warmer weather also after rain and the dam levels rise. I think they catch a few very deep at the moment but not alot.

freshwater shrimp are the best bait for bass and yellowbelly, try them on a paternoster rig in the deeper water at the moment

Hey mate, I have watched your video and tried many times close to Bullocky Rest but no any luck... is it because of the potting spot or weather?
@barracod
@barracod 4 года назад

we had them around heavily timbered areas. we used a blow up boat that u would use in a pool to get them out too where people don't get to

They seem to be more abundant after rain and the dam level is rising, at the moment I believe they are getting a few when left overnight. The place you are trying is heavily fished too. Potato needs to be ready to mash so that in the water it disperses like a berley trail. hope this helps

Love the videos. Wish we had crayfish as big as those in the States. One question... What is rockmelon, exactly? Heard of it mentioned before, but can't get a bearing on it. Thank you!

Hey Barracod, I went up to North Pine over the last couple of weeks and tried 3 different spots. I tried the second set of rock wall on Forgan road and also to the left and right of it. There's of plenty of tree structure to the left. I used semi boiled potato and dry pet food in waist deep water. i fished from 4 to 6pm on the 3 separate visits but I still managed to catch nothing. I am possibly the worst fisher ever. Do you have any tips that can help improve my catch from zero?
@barracod

Hi Amanda ,thank you, I think they are called cantaloupe in USA

Just tried for a quick hour or so (first time after the redclaw) on the western corner of Bullocky Rest with no success. Early afternoon, mid August, moderate rain coming down, boiled potatoes, around fallen trees, about 1.5m depth. Might have another try in a couple of months overnight. Maybe too many factors against me today.

way better in warmer months after rain

Thanks mate, Ive always thought warmer months but then some people have proven me wrong there, I have had most success after heavy rain and the water level is rising, cheers
@barracod
@barracod 11 лет назад
also move your pots around till you find a few. and structure especially new fallen trees
@barracod
@barracod 11 лет назад
I think that area gets fished a bit heavily now, maybe they are more active at night, Seems overnight when they are not abundant is more productive.

I am living in Sunnybank hills. I am looking for spiny crayfish that I am interested in. Could you tell me how to get them
@barracod
@barracod 8 лет назад
It is illegal to catch "Spiny" crayfish in Queensland, they are a PROTECTED SPECIES. Redclaw crayfish are a pest and you are allowed to catch them. You asked the same question last week on another of my videos.

+Rainbowrunner “Peter” Barracod Thank you, Peter. I am wondering if I catch them, crayfish are hard to distinguish protected or not. The examiner how to know I keep what, if I take it away
@barracod
@barracod 8 лет назад
food or aquarium?
@jamesyang3041
@jamesyang3041 8 лет назад
How can the examiner possibly know what species of crayfish I catch if I eat them right away?
@barracod
@barracod 8 лет назад
that is breaking the law better to eat what you are allowed to penalty is more than selling drugs examiner can see from left over shell if you want to eat them, redclaw are the best, try any dam around brisbane

Ah, I see. Would never have thought sweet veggies would bring the critters in. The little buggers near me have to be lured out of their lairs in the rocks by hook and line. No traps for these wary crayfish. NO bait, no matter what it is, will bring them into traps. It stinks really. Thank you sir.

not to catch red claw, but if you are fishing with a line or rod you need a SIPS permit.
