I second the bottom sweeper not for use on the pilings. Found the sheepshead last year on a piling and lost 5 crabs on a bottom sweeper before getting fed up and switched to a dropper loop rig. Had one crab left and landed the next sheepshead that bit.
Good stuff Jesse....I grew up fishing on lower Texas coast and used to give the Sheepshead I caught away to a friend who used to pressure cook them for his cats! I never thought of them as worthy of cleaning for a meal until he let me try the "catfood" one day. They are quite tasty. I love to make gumbo with the meat. Question - what about the Berkley Gulp peeler crabs? They are kinda pricey but wondering if the SH like them?
I tried them briefly once, and my buddy was catching sheeps the whole time using fiddlers. I didn't get a bite. Switched to fiddlers on the same pilings and started catching first drop. I'm sure they may work if your persistent, but not as well as the real thing
Best video yet from someone who hasn't had ANY success with sheepshead. My wife and I have fed them lots of fiddlers. Gonna give it another try down here in Jacksonville. Thanks for covering the types of rigs/weights. Good delivery. Will try your method first, with the bank sinker.
You get better at finding bait over time it's just like fishing look under rocks and oysters for mud crabs make sure when you go get crabs go at lowtide
@@natehowell793 I seem to be having a hard time finding places where I can gather them without trespassing. I know a few places where they are but it's private property or protected land
fiddler crabs man, I go to Beaufort SC and it is full of them in the spring time. I have never caught a sheepshead yet with fiddler crabs or shrimp. This lady right next to me was tearing it up but I could not catch a single one.
Great tutorial Jesse! Do you have a link to share on your “crabitat?” I have an old fish tank and wonder if I could do the same at the house. Oceans East is always sold out of Fidlers unless you get there before dawn. Thanks!
Thanks for the video the slip cork method works great on jetty’s I have found that the dropper loop leader works better for me with 1 oz bank weight on bottom I also use an unweighted slip cork so I can tell if I’m hitting the bottom the weighted ones for me stay upright when dragging bottom and most of the time you will get snagged on the rocks.
Thank you for sharing and am looking forward to catching some sheepshead, I have never caught any or had any to eat, I heard they are very good though. I love the king/whiting which are really good.
Enjoyed both tuturials .I never caught a sheepshead , all blackfish near Avalon NJ ..Going to give it a go this summer .Like your release advice thank you my friend God Bless
Great information man, I appreciate it. I'm out of the hampton roads area and your videos have helped alot. I finally got a trailer for my Hobie, Hopefully I see you out there one day. Thanks!
switching to a extra fast from a moderate/fast rod was a game changer for me. Hooking a lot more big sheep. I highly recommend extra fast rods for sheep. Nice job man, love your videos
You probably dont give a shit but if you are bored like me atm you can watch pretty much all of the new movies on instaflixxer. Have been watching with my brother for the last days =)
Jesse, I have two questions for you. The first is will frozen shrimp catch sheepshead, or do they need to be live? The second is that in one of your previous videos you said the store bought high low rigs were not as good as the hand-tied rigs. Why is that?
Not sure about frozen shrimp, worth a try. Try to get head on whole frozen shrimp. As far as store bought they just cant be customized like one you tie yourself. Like distance between loops, weight of the leader, etc...
Jesse I enjoy your video's they are very informative and you give me good pointers all the time, I would like to get with you at some point and go out fishing with you!
A commercial fisherman showed me that. The same day I caught a 24" sheepshead my buddy in a different boat won the el cheepo sheepshead tornament 20,000.00 bucks. I wasn't entered!
