Awesome video. Congratulations to you. Your not trying to be a youtube star, your all about teaching us how to catch fish. I really appreciate you. Thanks.
this is an excellent video mate. thank you for explaining everything so well. I'm new to lures and it's great to finally find a video that teaches the basics.
Great stuff. ..I used to sometimes catch big whiting on the small wonder wobblers I used for the small flathead in Pittwater.Often I pulled both species out of water 30cm deep , especially right at dawn. Whiting are grea eating ,but notice how they RAPIDLY lose flavour in the fridge.Best eaten day of capture.
Thanks mate yeah they will often hit a diving lure they are pretty aggressive fish and they do like the shollow water any where from 1ft to 3ft i find is the best and yeah fresh is the best way to eat them 👍
Mad channel mate 👍 love the tips I fished with ya afew years ago off the rocks at anna bay trying to chase a longy or mac.Great to see your channels going strong mate & still loving the fishing.
That was such a genuine, down to earth, no bull dust fishing video, congratulations and thank you. I was totally spell bound and I learned a few things as well. Liked and subbed. Have you tried the Nomad Dartwing 70mm, it looks like it will be a whiting weapon, may even be better with assist hooks as well?. Keep the good vids coming, you are a proper Aussie back yard fishing legend.
Great video mate very informative, I have ordered a few 70mm sugapenn. I’ll have to go bigger also can’t wait to head down to the coast and try it all out in Vic for some kg whiting
My fishing mentor. Sticky's method always works. I only follow 3 fishers and sticky is by far the best in Australia and other 2 are Americans PK Yi and Senko Skipper. When I am to target a specific fish or method, I search Sticky first and it always works like a charm.
Hi Sticky, thanks so much for the video. This is the best instructional video I’ve ever seen. I’ve been looking all over RU-vid but yours the best. Just curious what’s the knot you use to tie between the braid and the mono ? Thanks.
Liked and subbed. I will have to try that assist hooks rig. I'm really keen to try fishing for whiting with this set up. Are you Queensland based ?? I like the way you show everything you do in detail, and it's easy to follow too. Good video mate. Cheers
Hi sticky , love your videos and how you easily explain things , just i quick question as i am just getting into popping for whiting from watching your videos. I fish sunshine coast flats is 2 hours before low tide the right tide to try by boat with electric motor and does early morning or night time matter or any part of the day. Thanks Geoff
Thanks mate yeah different sand flats will fish better a different tide i like the run in tide just as the flats start to get about a foot of water over them i find the whiting move in to feed but also will catch them on run out tide with the same amount of water i like to line up the right tide with last 2 hour of light or early morning but will catch them any time of day so won't to fish no deeper than 3 foot of water then it's to deep so about knee deep is best mate In a boat just won't to driff over the flats to cover water to you find the fish unless you no the fish are they are there then use electric motor to sit in one spot and cast around hopefully this helps mate cheers 👍
Good stuff mate, I just ordered some more of those hooks in size 9, I'll send them your way when they get here, I've got some sugapen blanks I'll send you some too
Hey Sticky thanks for the great video and Sugapen tips, I"m at Boat Harbour where do you suggest the shallow flats with yabbie holes are around here, Taylors beach ?? Little Beach ?? Cheers for any advice hope to see you around the Bay mate .... Mark
Thanks mate yeah Taylor's beach soldiers point Collette area has yabbie holes over the sand flats all any where up the back end of the bay if you have a boat as well best time is the summer months when water is warm they are more active but mite be still a few around hitting surface lures as water is still semi warm in the bay 👍
is that one of the new colours mate? i was looking at the prices of assist hooks today this is a very good idea mate, flatheads will come up for the bass day also, in Port Stephens there are a few types of whiting without bag limits , really only sand whiting have a bag limit, the small ones fillet up pretty well for fish and chips
Not sure if it's a new colour mate mite be I've only started using them the last few weeks yeah got a flathead the other day on one yeah the whiting with no size limit are trumpeter whiting very good eating 👍
Nice info mate, I bought a same Sugapen 95F with that C264 color. except that I use the Flouro Carbon, I reel as same speed as you. But I see the whiting scares and swim away when my lure come in 😅
Hey Awesome Whiting video on Surface Lures I was just wondering what Setup and what pound Leader and Braided line would you use for Flats Fishing for Yellow Fin Whiting, Yellow Fin Bream and Dusky Flathead Thanks Cheers WILLIAM
Hey mate I use a l-3kg or 2-4kg 6lb braid 12lb leader for surface fishing for whiting 6lb leader for bream and flathead sa.e as whiting or a 3-5kg rod 10lb braid 14lb leader cheers 👍
Like the vid, well done. It looks like the water you are fishing is quite muddy/soft underneath, rather than "sand " flat, is this so. What knot do you use to connect leader and main line. Thanks
Thanks mate yeah sand in close then it goes to mud and weed in this video i used a albright knot also called alburto knot but i use a fg knot too mate cheers
hey mate i just got my hands on the sugapen but the only ones available were the 58mm in that bright orange colour. do u think that will work as well or nah
Great vid! caught my first whiting on the weekend! I've got a couple of the 70mm sugapens and want to change the trebles out. Would you recommend size 10 or something smaller again? Tight lines champion
Thanks mate congrats on you first whiting yeah mate size 10 trebles are fine put a size 10 on the front and size 10 assist hooks on the back works good 👍
Great vlog can you tell me what depth of water you need to fish with surface lures. In addition is there a particular tide or time of day whiting tend to go for the lure more?
Best to fish 2 foot of water or less real shallow depending on location but last 2 hours of run in tide first 2 hours of run tide try to line that tide with early morning late afternoon 👍
Hey sticky, thanks for the video. Going to try add some assist hooks to my sugarpen. Can you let us know where we can buy those cobra hooks. Can't seem to find them anywhere. Will any hooks work or do suicide hooks twist up?
Thanks mate you buy them on ali express website i did buy them i got them off my mate but thats where he got iam think but little suicide hooks mite work never tryed them but any short straight shank should do the job around size 8 to 10 But you can bye atomic trick bit assist hook in size 10 they work as well or eco gear make them to theres a few brand you can get already made if you do won't to make your own but cheaper to make them your self mate 👍
Hey mate never tryed them at night but up there in the canals mite gets some GT - trevally , jacks , gaint harring ive caght gaint herring at tweed heads on a lure similar at night so never no mate let me no how you go cheers 👍
Hi mate, I tried the same setup as you with the Sugapen 95. Have you ever had issues with the assist hooks tangling with the trebles or do you have the length short enough that they can't reach? Also, you seem to catch most of your fish on the back assist hooks. Are the trebles needed? Would it work just having the assist hooks on the back? Thanks in advance
Hi mate yeah I do have the same problem with the hooks and treble what I do when I cast is just as lure is about to hit the water I slow the lure down and just lift the rod tip up to straighten the lure out help it from tangling up but yeah you could just use the assist hooks and no treble cause most of the time that just grab the back of lure but it it good to have treble as it get caught on fish and helps with a better hook up you can make shorter assist hooks so it don't tangle but you will work out how no to get them tangle the more you use that lure setup hopefully this helps cheers 👍
Very rarely they will hit a surface lure in 2 or 3 meter of water i find no deeper then 1 meter is the best So yeah a diver lure would be better in deeper water or try the berkley gulp 2 inch worms in camo colour with a jighead size 1/16 and size 4 hook I've done good on whiting with them 👍
Excellent guide, this is what is in my mind for few weeks, to get sugapen lure for whiting. I just bought one after I watched this, I will shoot myself if I lose it, they are so expensive.
Thanks yeah they are expensive but they work good you can't snag it being a surface lure only lose it if a big fish bust you off all do what i did i cast my line and it snapped off so i swim out and got it lol 😂
So I made this rig today and took my biggest whiting on my 7th cast. I was fishing 1 hour hour after high tide here in Booker bay. What times do whiting strike the best? Will this rig only catch whiting?
Hey good stuff mate early morning or late afternoon is good if you can get the right tide for the spot you fish but it's more about the tide for example the spot i fish is good at high tide so i fish the last 2 hours of run in tide or the first 2 hour of run out tide Yes the rig will catch all fish that will eat that lure i just put the 2 hooks on the back like that cause better hook up rate on whiting then a treble hook mate 👍
