IF ANYONE HAS ISSUES WITH THEIR FLUID CAP -- mine was being very stubborn, but used a ziptie to create a loop that laces between the metal and plastic and got better leverage with that. Came out with a good pull.

The best way to change the fluid in a Nissan Sentra is to trade it for an ACTUAL good car. Like a Toyota Camry . A CAMRY OF THE SAME YEAR IS BETTER THAN THREE NISSANS. ANYONE OUT THERE,I have a 2014 Nissan I wish I never bought and had a 2000 Toyota with 238000 miles WITH original EVERYTHING. I Would trade 2 2014 Nissan Sentras for one 2005 Toyota

I own a Sentra 2014, followed the tutorial and everything came out great. No leaks or other issues, and I did not used a torque wrench. Taking the 'dipstick' off did not take long at all. The car had 83 thousand miles. The oil was extremely black, since it hadn't been changed. The filter was also very black; it certainly needed to be replaced many miles ago. I did buy the products at the dealership. The metal pan did not have much in the way of metal particles, so I will not change that next time. If I had known better, I 'd have changed the oil at least at 30 thousand. I will now change it more frequently. I think that at least changing the filter will not affect anything, if you have waited too long. It's time consuming but easy.

There is one thing you missed and it's called for in the service manual. There's transmission debris that sits inside the transmission cooler block(the one in front of the transmission by the radiator). Nissan Sells a flush spray to remove this debris from in there. This is also advised when performing this service you're doing since removing the fluid makes it easier while the transmission cooler sits somewhat empty. The black hoses have to be removed and the spray goes through the bent pipes and putting a clear hose on one end to route the debris onto a pan. Cheers

Some people are just lucky man. 168k miles and that pan looked great. Mine was serviced at the dealership at 84k miles only to find out they never changed the filters. So now at 93k miles I decided to change it again with a local mechanic. I suspected something since it was shifting late. Lo and behold the magnets on my pan looked like SEA URCHINS with the metal shavings on them. I'm so pissed off at the dealership. Anyways, you car has no metal shavings on the magnets even at 168k 😮. Could the metal shavings on mine come from them overfilling when they did that oil change at 84k?

My partner's car got a CVT fluid change done at 60k miles and is now at 105,000. Does anyone know if there will be a negative effect if I install a new transmission oil filter, new gasket, new oil pan bolts, fluid, and paper filter? I really want to take off the transmission oil pan and clean it along with the magnets and change the filter in there to be safe. I want to rescue her neglected 2014 sentra lol

They last fine if you change the fluid often (if you are able to do it yourself it's much cheaper, so I do it more often) I do my gf car every 30k which is about 1.5 years of driving for her. S far she's at 180k km and no issues, still works fine. Bought car at 55k, changed fluid at 60k, 90k, 120k, 150k and just recently at 180k. If I can avoid problems with the transmission, which is the biggest problem with these, the rest is no big deal, it's just been regular maintenance and wear items. Oil changes, brakes and tires.

I had that issue w a used one. I found out the critical upkeep to keep the cvt going is fluid flushes. It seems like most of the ones that fail do so because people had filthy fluid and didn’t change it due to the difficulty compared with most other cars. After watching this video it looks like it isn’t too bad after all, a little more work than some cars but not bad.

Why don't you just measure the fluid that you drain and replace it with the same amount. The method you use seems imprecise. Is this what nissan advises?
@masterwhopper414
@masterwhopper414 Год назад
You cannot rely on what comes out because sometimes that fluid burns out or you don't always get the same amount out every time. There would be no overflow plug if Nissan did not intend this being their service instructions.

You do not risk transmission slippage doing a flush on cars with a CVT transmissions. That only happens with regular transmissions because they have clutches. Clutches slip. CVT’s don’t use clutches.

There is oil trapped in the transmission. You put 4.5 quarts in and after running 20 minutes and shifting through the gears, leave motor running and pull drain plug. The excess oil will drain out. It won’t be 1/2 a quart.

@jeffreylboardsr2577
@jeffreylboardsr2577 Год назад
No need to take the pan off unless you are changing the metal filter. Otherwise - remove the 19mm bolt and open the 5mm overflow and all the fluid will drain out without having to remove the pan. Replacing the 19mm bolt and closing overflow, then add new fluid. Start engine, open the overflow let excess drain as engine is running. When flow ceases...close the overflow and tighten the 19mm bolt.

@RadRoger
@RadRoger Год назад
Changing the fluid will either fix the problem or make no difference (if it's a mechanical issue rather than bad fluid), so I would change it to see. I had a Dodge Caliber with a Jatco CVT and it started giving me those symptoms around 30,000 miles since the last fluid change. CVT fluid loses its ability to do its job after it gets so old. Change the filters and clean the pan if you do. I just did the full job on my mom's 2018 Nissan Sentra at 100,000 miles because it had never been changed. Changing the fluid hurt nothing and it actually made the transmission slightly quieter. I used a meat thermometer from Walmart with a wired probe that I slid all the way down the fill tube to the bottom of the pan to read the fluid temperature. I had to bend the probe into a curve to match the fill tube so it would fit. You want to drain the excess fluid at 104 degrees Fahrenheit instead of going by how many minutes the engine has been running like this video suggests, because it could be inaccurate based on the ambient temperature outside.

And all the oil inside the radiator you left it there to MARINADE the good and new oil that you just poured in, right.? That's not how you do a transmission flush buddy. Look at the manufacturer procedure. You do a transmission flush disconnecting the hose that goes from the radiator to the transmission.

I said change not flush. When you change your engine oil do you do a flush or you "marinade" it.

I have a 2018 nissan sentra. I was told today by the dealership service department my car doesn't have a transmission filter. They also told me it was going to cost me $275.00 to have the transmission fluid changed. My back yard mechanic friend said only dealerships can do them on this year of nissan. Is this true? I would like to save a bit of money if I can right now because I might not have a job soon. Thank you in advance for any information regarding this.

That is a great job. I didn't know you can level the fluid by running the car and taking off the transmission bolt. Do you run it in r or d or p? i assume p

Use the AC to cool down the engine..... um. That actually adds more heat to the engine as the engine is now driving the AC compressor when the clutch engages, this added load generates mire heat. Wow.

As long as the radiator fan blows air into the engine.

Does the car need to be completely level when doing this? Or can i just jack up the front end to do this?

Very good video. Now I have a 2007 Maxima CVT. And I do not see but ONE filter (inside the oil pan). Did they add the outside 2nd filter; at some later date from 2007? Thanks for the answer.
