In this video I change out a circulator pump in my hot water heating system. It started working intermittently so I had to trouble shoot it and then change it out with a new one.

make sure you read TACO installation instructions, Circulator Pump is sold with the electric component on the 9, 12 and 3 o'clock position. They specifically state do not install with electrical component at the 6 o'clock position. This makes sense since if there is a leak from the motor it would leak directly on the 6 o'clock position. Hope Andrew's pump doesn't leak. Otherwise this was a good video and my installation went smoothly.

Thanks for putting this out there, Andrew. I have a different brand - Grundfos - where the pump is sweat soldered in place. It still worked, but there was a high pitched grindy noise that started a few days ago. It turns out that there is a replacement cartridge unit with the impeller on it (sits inside the motor magnets) available for my unit that leaves the motor and housing in place (no soldering needed). The cartridge was pump type specific - my pump was a UP 15-18 85 type, whatever that means, which was good, as my pump was no longer made. It was 4 bolts and a bit of persuasion to get the old cartridge out and the new one fit perfectly. It just hums quietly now with the new cartridge. Your video helped save me many hours of cursing/soldering/bloody knuckles. THANK YOU !!! Folks troubleshooting their pump should look at this option if the pump is working, but noisy.

@t question is this will the newer rubber old ring work with the old flange thats on my boiler or do I need to install a regular flange gasket? Question 2# Whats the prefer nipple to connect to the flange to the boiler brass or galvanize pipe?

When these start to go bad does it send out a very loud vibration noise ?

If im repairing my system where should the pump be in relation to the heater ? Its run for years off the hot side of the water heater but that seems wrong.

Where is the follow-up video on how to correctly install a Taco circulator. Hint: you NEVER install the electrical box at the bottom side (6 o-clock position) where any water leak can cause a short. The installation instructions make this very clear as does simple common sense.

@andrew W. I've got the exact same pumps as you, only 2 in the system. The one clearly is spinning and can place your hand on it without burning your hand. The other is clearly not running and the second you place your hand on it to feel for vibration, you've to let go immediately because it's so hot lol.

The faulty pump is on the return line so explain's why the room doesnt feel like it warming up properly

I really need you help.I’m not sure mine still work or not. It has some noise inside the motor. Also first I trying to bleed water when the heat not working. But unfortunately no water bleed out at all. I have no idea with that. It’s pump stop working cause no water bleed out too?
