@@iflut-probably just the talking and no visual representation in 2x speed. Since you should know what he’s talking about you should be able to connect the dots much faster.
The best way to do it if you work on cars, is to do it 10 times slower, tell the car owner the spare is worn and order a new spare from a place that takes three hours to drop it off, then charge them twice as much for it, along with a labor fee.
This was so helpful this morning as I got a flat tire bringing my kids to school. Got it done in under 10 minutes even though I’ve never changed a tire before. Thank you!
Thank You for teaching me this. My dad never taught me cause he was always "busy but thankfully there are people like you out there who care enough to teach others.
SAFETY TIP! After you raise the car slide the spare tire under the car as a stopper , if the jack was to slip it the car would drop on the tire first , Once the spare is off trade the tires , now by placing the spare under the car ( along the metal frame ) Bonus TIP! If the lugs are on too tight by hand, use your foot / or your even your weight by gently standing on the wrench to open it. - car girl 😅
Excellent advice in case the jack rolls and the vehicle drops. *Also should you engage the emergency brake when changing to a spare? I rolled my vehicle because it was moving back and forth and dropped. It bent the frame of my car. 😅
my first ever flat tire was when i was 17 and the damn spare tire had a different lug nut pattern than what was actually on my car 🤦♂️ i was losing my mf mind trying to figure it out and i thought i was just incompetent or something until the tow truck guy said yea this spare tire is basically useless 😭 smh dont let that happen to you
And when you do this, you hope the last guy to tighten the lugs didn’t over torque them so you can actually get them off with the goofy wrench that comes with the car or that the rims haven’t welded themselves to the brake disk. I had the latter happen a couple of times changing tires and I needed a piece of a 4X4 to knock the rims loose.
Had this happen to me the time I helped my neighbor. The previous guy torqued them down so hard I had to put a piece of steel pipe over the wrench for leverage.
This literally is happening to me rn. After successfully jacking the car up & unsuccessfully loosening the lugnut, my mom (otp) tells me I was supposed to loosen the lug nuts first before jacking the car up🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️ Edit: as I rewatch this video inside my car, NOW I HEAR HE SAID THE SAME THING!!☠️
Typically you don't want to put a donut spare on a drive wheel (rear wheel drive/from wheel drive) so if you have a flat on a drive wheel. Change a non drive tire to the donut then use the good regular tire you have on hand to then change the flat drive tire.
I got a flat a couple months ago and didn’t loosen the bolts prior to jacking and knocked my car down trying to undo them while it was jacked…so good advice lol
Thank you. Had to change my first tire today. this video was great for walking me through it. Made something that was really intimidating to me actually super easy.
Thank you so much!!! It took me a lot longer than I thought it would (mostly because I wasn’t strong enough to loosen the nuts, had to stand on the wrench to get any to move), but I got there and am proud of myself! I got filthy in the process lol
Got ahead of myself and was gonna tell everyone to make sure yiu tighten your lugs in the star pattern. But then i finished the video lol. Great advice brother.
@@a.puerto5667 it means when you tighten the tire on, you have to do so in a star shape as opposed to doing it in a clockwise or counter clockwise direction. This ensures it’s evenly torqued.
Yep, a lot of the new cars you only get eight air compressor. If you have a blowout you have to call roadside assistance. You just need to buy use a rim and a tire and put it in there. They’re saving money by not giving you a spare tire and they’re making a car lighter but it’s an inconvenience because now you have to call a tow truck, but they want to charge you for the same price for the vehicle without that spare tire and that Jack lug wrench but just go to the junkyard get yourself a good used tire and rim and throw it in the trunk with a jack lug wrench you have to worry about it
I absolutely love cars and I’m almost obsessed with them but have no physical experience working on them. This can feel embarrassing when I know there is so much stigma around guys that claim to be into cars but don’t do any of the work. Watching this video gives me some confidence that I’ll be able to change my tyre if I have to.
yea it’s a mental thing aswell. you have to have common sense. simply undoing 6 lug nuts after jacking up a car and popping the wheel off shouldn’t have you sitting there and contemplating if you’re capable of doing it. it’s just not for you.
The tire cant be lifted when you unscrew or screw the bolts. The friction between the tire and road provides the leverage/ counter force against the force needed to unscrew and screw the tire.
Good vid, but I dont understand why you would cross tighten AFTER lowerong the car? The wheel is fixed once the weight of the vehicle is on the wheel. In my head, it makes more sense to fully tighten the wheel while its lifted.
Its easy, but it takes longer than this video is implying. I know youre being hyperbolic, but I can think of many chores that are way easier, let alone things to do at all.
Where not to mount a donut, and why. How long to drive and at what speed on a donut, and why. What to do if you have to replace the flat tire you took off the car when you put the donut on, and why. Thanks!
I’m a mobile tire technician, everybody should know how to put a spare on! I can’t tell you how many people call me asking for help. If you drive a car you should know how and I think it should be required on driving tests.
My lug nuts are super tight. They are not budged at all. I wanted to do this myself and be on my way. Damn!!! Now, I gotta wait in the middle of nowhere in the dark 75 minutes for roadside to come. Damn it !!!! Plus, I’m broke af and now I need a new tire.
