Easy way to break tire bead. Lay deflated tire on ground. Ramp 2x6 board up to edge of bead. Drive car up 2x6. Bead breaks easily. Done this lots of times. No prying, no cussing, no smashed fingers, no special tools required.

To all the uneducated saying car makers put these on cars today as a scam or to screw the public out of money, RESEARCH......The reason we have TPMS is because the good old American government passed the TREAD Act which required all vehicle makers to equip their cars with this useless feature. So thank your congressman or senator, not the car makers, not the dealers, and not firestone. I hate dealers as much as anyone, but you cant blame them for this one.

Hardly a "useless feature". People who complain about additional safety features that our government requires should see the death traps that fly around in other countries. I have, and I hardly consider things like anti-lock brakes, airbags, collision avoidance, backup cameras, TPMS sensors, etc. as useless. Get a clue, dude. I suppose you're one of those people that still complain about them removing lead from gasoline, huh? Checking your tire pressure before every drive isn't exactly practical and not everyone is comfortable with it, or has a clear understanding of what pressure is safe for their given vehicle. There's old people that drive, there's young people who drive, there's uneducated people who don't get it. Just because you think it's infringing on your rights to... I don't even know what your argument is, lol... doesn't mean features shouldn't be developed & implemented to help make it safer for everyone, including yourself - don't forget you and your loved ones are on the road with these people, too.... Not to mention, things can and do happen in between checking your tire pressure. I do all my own auto repair and I'm very diligent about maintaining my vehicles. IMHO, TPMS saved one of tires and possibly my family while we were on a road trip to Yellowstone. We picked up something sharp in a tire while at a roadside stop and a few minutes after getting back on the road, the warning went off while we going 75mph down the freeway. I was able to slowly slow down & pull over - watched the tire go completely flat only seconds after getting out to check it. Put the spare on, drove to nearest town where they plugged the puncture and 2 hours later we were back on the road. Who knows what would happened if I hadn't had 10-15 seconds of lead time - maybe nothing, maybe catastrophe. This was a fully loaded Suburban with camping gear, roof top box, kayak and 7 people inside. I didn't even wreck the tire, drove on it for years afterwards. If it wasn't so expensive to replace, you wouldn't be complaining so the real issue is overinflated prices. Car makers make billions in profit every year and perhaps THEY should be required to service safety features like these AT COST instead of charging the RIDICULOUS prices I see dealers asking for - $800 to replace 4 sensors? $250 at Discount tire and they only last 2 years (my experience)? C'mon man! If you can order 4 of these for $40 off of Amazon and takes Wal-Mart a few minutes to replace, it shouldn't be so expensive to maintain by the dealer.... Profits on the vehicles we buy are through the roof and I shouldn't have to pay bloated prices to keep my vehicle safe just so some jerk at GM can fuel up his jet every week.

Yeah, tire pressure sensors. A useless device put on cars to cost you lots of money. Not only do you have to pay hundreds of dollars for the device when you buy the car, you have to pay hundreds of dollars when you have to constantly replace the gizmos and then get the system to recognize the gizmos. The fun part is that most of the time they don't work right. Car dealers just love them, because it feeds them hundreds of dollars on every car that waltzes in. I don't have any on my cars, but I have changed them out for friends and neighbors. On smaller cars, it is not nearly as easy as this video shows. So far, almost everyone I know has quit replacing them because trying to keep all four working and in sync seems an impossible task. Trying to buy the correct sensor and trying to relearn a new sensor for the system can be a real daymare. Besides a tire gauge works perfectly. As such, most people I know, now turn it off manually in dash settings, disable it, or put a piece of black tape over the light on the dash.

Actually, I was driving my 4Runner on the highway and felt a little bump. 5 minutes later my TPMS warning light came on and I was able to get off the highway and pull into a 7-Eleven. Something punctured my tread and I was losing air fast - was down to about 10 psi. I was able to use a tire plug kit and air compressor I kept in the truck to fix it without even removing the wheel. The fix lasted another 25k miles until the tires were worn out. Thank God for TPMS in that situation. I would have literally gone flat on the highway and who knows whether I would’ve lost control or not. Only seeing the light flashing saved me and made me pull over. It’s one of those things You don’t appreciate until it saves your ass. I’m a believer now.
@teichholtz
@teichholtz Год назад
@@michaelmaxwell568 I agree. Prior to TPMS my wife would destroy a tire a year. Since TPMS she has not. But once a year she will mention that the light came on. A couple of times it was a puncture with a nail or such, twice it was a leaky rim. But I was able to get them repaired before losing the tire. And I have never had a TPMS sensor fail. Oldest ones we have now are from a 2013 Honda which we just gave to our daughter.

Does the nut torque from a new set depend on the sensor you are installing a new set on? Or that torque is the same for any sensor it fits on? For example, the original TPMS sensor require 65 in-lbs (2009 Nissan Sentra), but new service kit for the nut included in that set gives 35 in-lbs. I didn't look before on the packet of the service kit and installed w/63 in-lbs. The car was driving perfectly fine like for 2 years. Now I'm replacing the wheels and moving the TPMS sensors fm old wheels to the new ones. I'm replacing the service kit items of course (nut, washer, gasket, and Schrader Valve). Here it came to my attention the printed value of the nut torque on the small packet for the new kit (35 in-lbs). So I don't know what torque to apply 65, 35 or smth in between (especially as everything was fine and with 65). I inspected the previous service kit nuts, which were used for 2 years, and which were under 63 in-lbs instead of 35, they were fine, no hairline cracks on them. I would appreciate any opinions on this matter.

Please don't do it your self. It has to be trouqe to the right setting and you need a scan tool to do a relearn. On most tpms . Once u pop the bead of a tire has to be rebalance . Don't use sandpaper lol and keep the tire on lol. all the stuff u just sand is now on the bead . And it going to leak . I no because I a level 400 trainer I get paid to teach mechanics on how to properly install tires and tpms sensors. Please don't do it yourself .

Do it yourself folks own torque wrenches, some TPMS systems can be relearned by the vehicle itself, and if you only pop the bead on the TPMS side and replace it with a sensor that is within the same weight range +/- .25 oz you don't need to rebalance the wheel. This was a good demonstration of one type of bead breaking tool. There are others that may be easier to use or cheaper. This bead breaker is great because it doesn't take up much storage space.

I’m working on the rear tires of my 07 is250 this weekend. For the front tires, even though I broke the bead all the way around, it was difficult to move the tire out if the way to access the sensor. I ended up using a scissors jack on one side of the sensor and the bead buster on the other side to hold the gap open wide enough. I hope the back tires will be easier.

@Price1861
@Price1861 4 года назад
On tubeless wheels and tires the bead is the seal. As long as the bead is clean 99.9% of the time it will seal. Very rare is there ever a need for sealant. And there is a special bead sealant. It would have sealed without you using that.
@klowny1969
@klowny1969 4 года назад
In my shop we use the steelman sealer..since this is a dying video, the average person doesnt have to buy a tub of sealer, gasket sealer is the same. They can also use dawn soap. If you want a come back in your shop, then dont use any sealer. It is not good practice to just let the bead sit on it's own. There are tsb's out there that u need to put sealer on the rim because the rim starts to flake..so to answer your question, yes u need sealer unless you want to do the job twice..dont forget to subscribe and hit that bell to be notified of any new videos I post :)

I have that very bead breaker. It works just like shown. Easy-peasy. The problem I ran into is my portable air compressor, a Viair 400 P, couldn't reseat the bead. It has plenty of pressure, but not enough volume, I could see it leaking around the rim. I think if I had a ratchet strap around the perimeter of the tire it would have worked. But I had to go to a tire store anyway.

@@StilettoSniper Harbor Freight review of PITTSBURGH AUTOMOTIVE Manual Tire Changer:( $49.99 without coupon) "Tremendous piece of garbage I bought one of these a few years ago and it quickly broke. All of the working components are very thin and light duty steel. The main tube (with adjustment holes) bent in half, the bead pusher folded over on itself, and the arms between these two components buckled on the first use. I thought maybe I got a dud, so I bought another one just recently. Exact same issues - I unseated one bead on one tire before the arms started buckling again. Guess im going to have to fix the design myself and replaced all the light gauge steel with some thicker stuff. Don't waste your time - just go buy something heavier duty for a little more money"

What ever happened to driving over the tire with another vehicle? Also, fuck TPMS! One common problem is that the aluminum part of the TPMS valve stem will corrode and crack due to chemical reaction, causing a leak I actually did find a kit online to drill out and replace that part with a plated steel valve stem. Comes with the drill bit, tap and everything you need. It was about $35.00 for the kit, which will do two stems. Better than $75.00 a pop to replace.

FYI People, most cars require a TPMS scan tool to register the NEW TPMS ID with your computer. Or else your computer will not detect the new sensor. Additionally, some TPMS sensors require programming as well, so it's just not a pop in and let's go. Make sure you purchase a pre-programmed sensor and hope you don't have to upload TPMS ID's to the computer. Good luck. I love videos like these, they are my best friends. I have a shop and half the repairs are from people who watch these types of videos.
