Thanks ! and picked up a few new tips from your video. Some to add that help me are: 1) put the new tire in sunlight to let it expand slightly. Helps with Schwalbe tires especially. 2) use soapy water on the bead just before installing tire on each side. 3) air up and seal the bead dry before adding any sealant. Saves you a sealant/bead explosion all over the garage and yourself. 4) add sealant thru the syringe and can use a small bottle as your measuring instrument such as the little 2 oz Stans bottles. 3 to 4 oz is good for a new tire installation. 5) usually add/replenish the sealant every 3 to 4 months or tire change whichever comes first. And may reuse sealant if it is not dark or very gray (referring to Stans sealant) by removing with the syringe into a glass jar. 6) agree with others that mfg lettering at valve stem with respect to the "rotation" direction. 7) if uncertain on direction (ie. some road or gravel tires) with no arrow, when taking off a tire that you expect to use again, add your own direction arrow with a magic marker to help you months from now. Cheers !

There is a reason why I always align tire logos with the valve stem, at least with tubes, it helps with tracing a puncture on the tire, because the thing that popped the tube might be still stuck in there and immediately puncture your new tube.

Great video! Just a quick note on the brake shim, clean it with alcohol first and don't touch the shim where the pads make contact. I know this is minor but even oil on your fingers can contaminate your pads over time. One helpful tip I learned from BKXC when it comes to tire rotation direction: tire companies add all their fancy labeling to the side of the tire that will face out in all the glamour shots you see of bikes: the drivetrain side. So, if you make sure your tires pretty labels are on your drivetrain side, you should be good to go!

Something I found handy for putting sealant in a tire is using a 35cc syringe with the straight tip not the screw lock tip. The straight tip will slide into the valve body and you can pour the sealant into the syringe and it acts like a funnel. Sealant runs in and no squeezing of the bottle. Hope someone finds this useful.

@sydfixesbikes
@sydfixesbikes 3 года назад
When we hosed of the wheel, we hosed off everything. And since we put the sealant on via the valve stem, the wasn't much risk then. Also, it turns out brakes heat up enough to burn off sealant no problem (a race mechanic told me that once).

If we're running the same tire front and rear, when the rear one is worn, we'll put the front on the back and a new one on the front so we have the tire with better traction in the front. If we're running different tires, then yeah, replace the rear more often.

@1:35 I'd add when taking off a wheel, when you have hydraulic brakes, place a clean break block between the pads. I was doing the same thing as Syd but on my front wheel and accidentally griped the front break lever. This compressed the pistons and the rotor would no longer fit between the pads. To prevent this I'd place a block between the pads. Edit: Yes I know they talked about it but it was sort of minimized. It is important cuz getting the pistons back is a royal pain in the ars.

I'm an older rider starting back after a 10 year break. This bike exceeds my capabilities and has been easy to get comfortable riding. I'm mostly on easy trails with almost no street riding and have not been disappointed with the performance of the bike. My fitness level is far below what I previously rode with and because of that the mileage is going on the bike slowly. While I'm losing weight slowly, the bike seems to tolerate my 220 pounds just fine. The bike has been used by several family members ranging from 5'5" - 5'9".
