My mother has a 2017 GMC Acadia & when she told me how much the dealer was charging her for an oil change, it blew my mind & it was a 3 hour wait. I always changed the oil & oil filter in my cars, so when it was time for her next oil change, I had to do it for her. If people knew how easy it is to change their own oil, I think more people would do it themselves, especially if they have all the tools & car ramps (if needed) to do so. I'm no mechanic, but the only thing I would do differently is prime or add oil to the new oil filter before putting it on.
As with all GM Direct Injected engines, be sure you use high quality API SP Synthetic Oil, this V6 engine calls for 5W30, the 4 Cyl calls for 0w20, weights may vary some with temp ranges you live in. I also like to fill the oil filter at install. I do a few changes with the same drain plug seal, be warned that is not just an o ring seal!
I used to always do my own oil changes back in the days , the last 7 years I kept going to the dealer instead because i was only saving like $20 doing it my self , little by little they kept charging more my last visit was $120 ! Just 2 years ago it was $65 ! ..i think ill go back to doing it myself again ..smh
