Did this job on my Astra G and damaged the threads on the hub for the upper slider pins for the caliper on both sides of the car. My Astra had the integrated hub holder type.The brake caliper is bolted directly to the hub. Be very carefull putting in the caliper slider bolts as the threads are very fine and easily damaged. Make sure to grease up the threads on the caliper slider bolts first and then put in by hand.If you have any doubts about cross threading the bolts just stop.Iv had to get two new hubs for my astra.

Thanks to your video, I made the change of the breaks on my car, and yes you need to loosen the pistons to make it easier to take off the old pads and put on the new ones, because you will have a bit of a hard time.

lordzolen How do you loosen the pistons?
@lordzolen
@lordzolen 7 лет назад
maybe it helps to turn on the engine, use the breaks, push 2-3 times the pedals, then turn off the engine, but not take out the key, and if its not loosen it enough, just use a tough screwdriver to make space between the pads and the brake disc, so you push the piston in, till you can take off the pads

Great video! Earned a subscription here, but do the brake pads come out that easily or does the piston have to be pushed back...?
@autodocuk
@autodocuk 7 лет назад
Thank you for the feedback! Yes, the piston has to be pushed back in most cases. Best regards, Autodoc.

Use steel or copper brush for cleaning surface hub before placing disc. You could use some ceramic antiseize on the surface of the hub before placing the disc. Alway clean the surface of the disc with a brake cleaner and a new cloth before installing caliper and new brakepads.

I've read that you can swap to two piston caliper and larger rotors on the Astra G from Corsa VXR.

please note the haynes manual recomends when pushing back the piston to put a hose clamp on the brake hose leading to the caliper and hydraulic fluid is drained through the bleed nipple. This is because there have been instances of damage being caused to the master cylinder seals when pushing back the piston. should have been shown in video as important step. how can you miss steps in instructional video on important task such as brakes??

Thank you for your feedback! You are absolutely right, no way is this video a tutorial, but it is just informative. We always recommend that the works, especially on the brake system, should be done on the Specialized Car Service. Best wishes, Autodoc.

This is a stupid ass reply. As the poster said it right, the bleeder valve has to be opened on the caliper before pushing back the piston. This is not some minor detail.

No copper grease or pad goo on the pads or calipers?

Good video. Could you tell me why my calipers on my astra van seem to have lots of play? Do the fixing bolts bend after a lot of use as I recently changed front wheel for spare but caliper rubbed on some protruding weld on inner wheel! The wheel is a genuine van wheel.. just seems the calipers are very close to the wheels. Thanks

I have the same problem. One guy says it could be the hoses (if bleeding unbinds). I myself think it's maybe a caliper design fault as mine (originals) are not at 90 degree angle to the disc. Had this problem for years, and still no final conclusion. Buy original ruber parts, the cheaper brands use ruber seals that doesn't last much more than a year, and then you have to do the job over again.

Two important mistakes. The retaining bolts must be talked to the correct tenchion. 2 all Rotor disk must be cleaned to remove the protective oil coating.

You are absolutely right. Yes, in practice it is absolutely necessary to use a torque wrench and observe the appropriate tightening torques.

Not so great to know that a shitty torx 30 screw is the only thing which holds the brake disk on its place :)) :((
@TrineRapMusic
@TrineRapMusic 7 лет назад
along with the calipers mounted,then a tyre put in front of it bolted in place with 4 bolts. they aint going anywhere...but yeah maybe a few more screws to even it out?
@Soulvex

its only there to hold the disc whilst the wheel is off.
@johnnycassell2305

These are in place purely for the assembly process at the factory. It is the wheel that keeps the discs in place.
