I am doing this to my Modus which I imagine is similar. If loosening the subframe is enough to pull the bolt out of the control arm bush that's a big relief.

Good all round advice and footage. Thanks! A point to note: Most Mk 3 Clio's have rotten Radiator supporting subframe's Which Renault should have been taken to task for, for building cars with such appalling quality meta//components,

On the plus side, you don't have to take all the bolts out of the subframe to shift it out the way - just watch your eyes for the shower of rust that is produced.

Great video. Attempted to follow it with my '11 Fluence but it's completely different. You may consider shooting a video for Fluence/Megane 3/Scenic 3 because there isn't any guide on lower arm replacement for these car. Anyway, I couldn't remove 30 mm bolts holding the arm manually. Rattle gun is a must.

Thank you for your comment! Unfortunately, we don't have the similar tutorials for Renault Fluence,Megane 3 or Scenic 3. We can offer you to have a look at the tutorial about the replacement of the front suspension arm / front control arm on RENAULT MEGANE 2: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Eh_lw67OXHY.html The playlist of the replacement the suspension arms can be found as well via the following link: ru-vid.com/group/PLWep5LzT0sxl0DHDm2fgwpLwYktrdim0Z

very well done to Renault for making it necessary to remove the fucking subframe to access the bolt holding the wishbone on. Put the bolt in the other way around and cut the shielding bracket and you can bypass this french design idiocy.

Does the ball joint come pre-greased? Is there no need to add grease to the ball joint?

@henriksalblad1924

Dont do this at home unless you have a serious workshop. Takes a whole lot longer then you think to replace this part.
@joshryder7242
@joshryder7242 3 года назад
It takes less than 10 minutes and can be done by literally anyone with the right tools and a minute amount of mechanical knowledge. Why would you say otherwise?
@kfkwAL7
@kfkwAL7 2 года назад
@@joshryder7242 10 minutes? Took me 2 days. Biggest issue not being able to get the balljoint off the hub after having issues with moving the subframe. Just would not move through anything except when I got a long arm popper, it then came out. Still having issues with knocking despite tightening bolts under load.

What did he do with the riveted under tray? Cut the rivets? What is the tray held up with afterwards, zip ties?? Why hasn't Renault been held up with this bullshit yet?!
@LG-kl3co

If only they bolted the ball joint onto the arm ....so very much easier for a simple failed ball joint ! If you do this job, do your self a favour and do both arms regardless they are cheap enough and you can bet on the other arm failing if you have not changed both.

My mechanic has tried to upsell me by saying he needs to remove the bumper and radiator-something to get the suspension arm replaced. My MOT failed due to the ball joint having excessive wear. My car is a 2006 Clio Mk3 not far off from the one in the video. Anyone got any thoughts?
@sajhussain9848
@sajhussain9848 Месяц назад
Having replaced this part on both sides on my driveway, there is no need to remove the bumper. The radiator frame does need to be moved as shown at 1.02 of the video due to the stupid design. It took a little while but do able at home with the right tools (especially fork) and heavy enough hammer to get the ball joint out.

@@sajhussain9848 My costs for the work went from £220 to £480 purely because of this time increase. Do you think that's a fair increase? Because I couldn't make sense of it myself, but I also don't know how any of this works. Thanks for your reply!
