I love how the e39 and e46 have so many service videos. I watch them all day. Should probably start working on my car.

You should! Get a set of tools and you'll find they pay for themselves in a year. After that, it's all savings!

What a beautifully clean and prepped E39. Considering they stopped making them in 2003, the car looks to be nearly new! If only removing bolts on old cars was as easy in practice as it's made to look here!!! lol

Thank you for your feedback ! Unfortunately, each car requires particular replacement and everything depends on a technical condition of car parts units. Our videos are just informative as to the replacement sequence and to save time we loosen some units beforehand. Best regards, Autodoc.

At 5:10 ; noticed how the bolts are already opened for it to be easier on video... this guy never encounters problems on video so when we do, its not as easy
@autodocuk
@autodocuk 4 года назад
Thank you for your comment. We understand that sometimes on video the moments of dismantling are especially associated with threaded connections do not look reliable, however, to save time, we have to loosen them earlier so as not to spend a lot of time on them. Best Regards, Autodoc team

So the entire caliper can be removed in one piece after removing the 18mm bolts? Another tutorial said separate the halves.

@@autodocuk Every other tutorial undoes the 7mm allen key type guide pin bolts and removes caliper from bracket, then 2 x 18mm bolts of bracket. I guess you don't need to, but I will when I do front rotors soon. Clean it all up, lube the guide pins etc.

@autodocuk

autodoc.co.uk That's about what I saved! I was able to do both sides after watching your vid as a guide. I put the whole front end up which allowed me to turn the wheels for access (I didn't have to disconnect the tie rods). Both sides with new bolts cost me $240 USD and took about 4hrs. Thanks for the vid!

There are 4 bolts that hold the wheel bearing. The video only showed how to remove 3 of the bolts. One of the bolts is a major pain so I hope this video didn't just gloss over that.

Unnecessarily removing too many parts. You can remove the bolts without taking the suspension apart. Its tricky but I've done it

I can remove 3 but how did you loosen the 4th bolt? Did you make a special tool? I have a deep-offset ring spanner that I was thinking of grinding down so it can fit over the bolt head without the suspension strut getting in the way. Also the factory thread locker is savage! I had to work one bolt back and forth with copious penetrating fluid to eventually free it off.
@diybillyc5000
@diybillyc5000 Год назад
You can remove the bolts without lowering the hub but you'll not be able to torque one of the bolts properly. And this will eventually lead to wheel bearing failure. It happened to me so now I just do it the right way as in the video and lower the hub and get it done with.
@Dutch_Pancake
@Dutch_Pancake 3 года назад
Why does this contain more steps then the other E39 front bearing vid? :/ In the other vid he took of the hub after only taking of the disc. It looks like they want to sell you more tools which you don't need for this job.
@autodocuk
@autodocuk 3 года назад
In order to remove the bearing, it is necessary to do the work that we have shown, otherwise you will not be able to bend to the mounting bolts of the hub. AUTODOC

Going to do a job do it right and show us the right and safe way

fair enough but the nut needs to tightened up anyway, so why not use a torque wrench showing people the correct sequence of tools needed to be safe and do the job right.
