After a few hard starts, my truck finally gave up and left me stranded at work so now I am forced to do what must be done.....yet again.

53 to empty... like 5 gallons in there lol. Wish my hemi would get more than 10mpg. I'll be doing this on ice though. Not looking forward to it

This was reality and entertaining! Showing how you figure things out as you go along, trial and error like. Looks like putting in a different looking pump than what came out of the tank worked for you anyway, or did it? Every one elses video showed the same issue pulling the old one out. Easy in hard as hell pulling out, unless you force it out like the way you did it. Curious to know the brand of the new pump and how much you paid for it. Thanks for sharing how not to as well as how to get the job done!!

I’m aware it’s been a while but have gig replaced with aftermarket or OEM pump? I’m debating whether it’s worth the $250 for OEM. If you have an aftermarket has it lasted or would you have preferred OEM? Thank you.

Excellent question, from my experience with new or replacement parts...aftermarket isnt always better! Especially when it comes to important components you rely on daily. Purchasing aftermarket parts runs the risk of cheaply made and under engineered and will mostly likely fail sooner. OEM or (Original Equipment from Manufacturer) parts are certified by engineering departments from the manufacturer themselves, known to be overly engineered and proven to operate in some over the harshest environments without fail. If you are wanting to set it and forget it...OEM is the way to go hands down no questions asked. If you like changing your pumps often the aftermarket is your ticket. Especially in a truck where you have to drop the damn tank no matter how full or empty it is, OEM wont let you down. Hope this helps dude.

The old fuel pump was the wrong one. That old pump is for gasoline. Not diesel. Great video.

My truck is a gas engine, not diesel....honestly I didnt know if that the diesel fuel pumps were different.

I am replacing my pump in my '07 ram right now. Dropping tank is not that bad but I did break 2 of the fuel line clips. The connections were so packed with gunk that the fitting tool would not compress them so I had to kinda pry them out. Is there a source for these clips? I have not been able to locate replacements.

O'Reilly auto parts sell the fuel line retainer clips. Next time hit the clips with brake cleaner and some compressed air to get the dirt out.

I’m doing this job right now… same truck same year. I thought about cutting a hole in the bed right about where the fuel pump is then patching up the hole BUT…. I decided against it considering hopefully this is the first and last time I have to change it out. If it was something I would have to do even semi often I would’ve went that route. So here I am, laying on the cold ground while it’s snowing dropping my gas tank…..😂 🤦🏻🤦🏻
