Thanks for sharing this video, well documented and explained...well done Pal!!! just want to add a small advice: Always start opening the top plug (Filler) before draining the oil out in case it's rusted or stuck stiff solid.... B-)
I did this on my 2006 Toyota Corolla 1.4 vvt-i and it was a easy process. Both the fill and drain bolts came off easy. Two litres of new 75w 90GL5 oil in it now, job done and very satisfying I did it. Thanks for the video.
@@100stamina But another reason to open the fill bolt first is because it provides an inlet for air as the oil drains out of the drain hole. That way you don't get that "plopping" effect and it makes for a more thorough drainage of the old oil.
Hey man you really are the one always helping me with my Celica GTS. Every video I've have seen you make of Toyota always help me thank you so much man. God bless you.
Salute Peter👍! Another superb video! -I've seen a fee of your videos. All have been very informative and great scenes covering each step! Please keep up your great work! Best regards from carpenter/hobby mechanic👍👍👍
Thank you and very well done. I have never done a Toyota before and was just looking where to go and what to do,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, And you have showed me. Thank you.
Hi sir Peter Finn! Another helpful video of yours that would help me to work easier for my toyota corolla altis J, 220,000 km. Also, the tranmision fluid coming from toyota dealer just near our house was so cheap I think so, like 10 to $20, it's really hard to find high Mobil1 products here in our country so I'll just stick to toyota brand. Again thanks a lot, stay safe.
Hi, there is different oils to motor and transmission. Manual transmission or gearbox you need special oil what type is 75W-90 gear oil API-Gl 3. And for automatic transmission you need Dexron II transmission oil. And for motor oil you need API grade SG oil, like Mobil 1.
hi Peter, so happy I found your videos :) the gearbox oil video was a great help to me, as was your video on the fuel injection :) keep up the great work, much appreciated from Ireland :P
Thank-you very much, i started to have some noise in my gearbox, so i will be changing oil 1st to make sure it is just that, but my father (a mechanic of 40years) suggest to add some Nulon G70 additive as well, because last G/B change i did was in like 2011 and it is now 2018! a little extra cost for longer life!
note to anyone doing this. ALWAYS remove the fill plug first because if you drain the gear box and then find out the fill plug is stuck you are screwed.
You should loosen the top fill bolt first, in case it doesn't want to come off. Then you take the car to the dealer. Also, the oil will come out much faster and take with it metal shavings.
I am Hungarian and I can tell you his accent is very far from the Hungarian accent. His accent is very Slavic (therefore it is not related to Hungarian accent), so he is from a Slavic country. Btw. great video and thanks for sharing with us Peter!
he sounds more from nordic lands(sweden, finland) i think hes not slavic im a slav and he doesent sound slavic, altough first time i heard him on videos i thought he was japanese haha
Hi Peter Finn, Great video. I am using Toyota Vios. I did not change gear oil, power steering oil, petrol filter yet. The car is manual transmission and ODO is nearly 87000 Km. When I am driving my car, its shuddering (its like misfire) while changing the gear from 1st to 2nd and/or 2nd to 3rd for a while, then after it will normal function if I increase the speed. So I wanted to reveal this problem and please be let me known that when I want to change these oil to avoid related problem along with the car. Your immediate response will be appreciated. Thank you
Hi Peter thank you for your time and help on how to replace transmission oil, I have a 2008 vvt-1 5doors car, they call it here in n. z. wagon, so need to know if I'm supposed to use the dip stick or is there another way to pump transmission oil through, mycar has got 2 dip sticks, one for engine and the other one for gearbox which is situated on the right as I face the engine, thank you kindly for your help mr finn cheers from NEW ZEALAND 🇳🇿 👍
Hallo peter Thank you for this video I want to ask you My car has automatic gearbox (half automatic) its Toyota corolla (verso in Germany ) 2006 Is that the same changing system? Thank you so much
Always go to the Toyota dealer like i just done today they'll help and give you the right ATF or manual gearbox oil because my Yaris 2002 Auto needs JWS3309 T-IV not the WS as the WS is for 2007 onwards that's what he said.So give all the info and they'll help.Yes £53 for 5L on my JWS3309 but it's the risk i'm not taking incl break down and a thousand quid plus sorting it out.
I change the oils in the following way: I lift the car from the driver's side without removing the wheel. I remove the plastic cover from the side of the gearbox. Remove the top screw and then lower screw to empty the gearbox. To fill up I get a piece of watering hose where at one end I place a funnel and the other side I put it in the gearbox and so fill with oil.
Thanks you sir! Peter! Very useful video, I'm going to change my manual tranmision gear oil of my corolla altis 2002 with milage of 220,000 km. The last gear oil service was 185,000km at toyota manufacturer. I already bought a socket, but too bad what I got is only 22, need to replaced it again by 24. O I forgot, I'll just going to change it before it comes to 60,000km gear oil running. I'm going to refill it with exactly 2 leters of toyota GL -4 80W-90? Would that product also going to run exactly or is it exactly made for our toyota model corolla model 2002?
Hi sir Peter! Yes, thats so interesting, I'm always using toyota oils & lubricants, spare parts etc. for my altis 2002. Also I'm going to use toyota brands to our toyota Innova manual 2.0 2011 with 30,000km. only as much as I can =] Thank you so much for the guide sir, keep it up! I support you a lot.
Hi Peter, good video but do you have the car on the level? The car needs to be level or on flat ground to make sure the oil drains and fills correctly. Once enough oil is inside it will dribble out of the fill hole. But it will only do that if the car is on the flat and with car jacked up it may not be level. If possible do this on flat ground with all wheels still on the car.
Peter Finn I hope so Peter I am about to try it today! I have stiff shifting so have bought 1.9 litres of Redline MTF. I also had to buy a 24mm socket - BIG socket :)
***** Good tip! Also, ALWAYS, break loose the filler plug first before draining oil. This is to make sure it will be easily opened when it is time to fill it back up. It matters more on older vehicles, but is a good rule to follow. There is nothing worse than draining all your oil with no means to fill it back up because of a seized filler plug that can strip out.! Also do this on front & rear differentials too. Again it pertains mostly to older vehicles because of corrosion, hoverer it's a good habit to apply to all years due to whatever reasons may exist;~)
Hi peter Finn. I appreciate your efforts. The videos are great, detailed and helpful. Is this procedure of removing transmission oil (gearbox oil), the same in Toyota Avensis D4D CAT??
Peter, I can see the 'fill plug' (size 15/16ths) at the FRONT/MIDDLE of the manual transmission (corolla 2.0litre 2003 d4d). Where is the drain plug ? Is it at the SIDE of the transmission, lower down on the transmission ? Does the driver's side wheel need to be removed to access the drain plug ? Thanks Jason
Thanks Peter. This really helps. Just a couple of questions, how much transmission fluid do I need? and how can you tell if the fluid is enough? Thank you very much
Hello... I have toyota avensis t25 1.8 petrol and I don't know what gear box oil I should use... Some say that I must use original oil only! Can I use Ravenol or Motul?
This was a manual transmission, and he changed the oil, so yes. You do have to change the oil in a manual trans. 60k miles is a little early to be changing factory fluid out, but it won't hurt anything. Go for it!
I have an Auris 1.4vvti which is identical to Corolla engine. After 160.000 I have changed the clutch and after this it started to have dificulty changing gears. 2 L oil changed also in gearbox but nothing helps. I have a felling that a shifter lines are wrong like it is stuck somewhere.
Scary when I did mine first time I swear only 300ml came out. Almost three went back in. Is it it possible it was low from factory???? Cars parked inside every night no signs of leaks. I'm going to change again soon almost 50000km.
Hi Finn , thanks for the video! could you please tell me how do i make shure that i have filled enough fluid in to the gearbox, after i have drained it ? Thx in advance!
The oil is draining slow because your car is leaning to the right and drain hole is on the left side of your car. You should have lifted the other side as well if you needed more access under your vehicle. I never needed to jack it up, there is enough room for me to fit under it.
Hi Peter, thanks for the video. I have a 2003 Toyota MRS (MR2) , my manual transmission light came on and sometimes it's difficult to change gear. Do I need to change my gearbox oil? If yes, how much and what type of oil to use? Thanks in advance
I clicked on this video hoping to learn how to get to the gearbox of an automatic transmission. I've changed the automatic transmission fluid and filter many times, but I don't know how to do the gearbox. The gearbox has a separate reservoir from the automatic transmission. Any advice Peter? Or, another viewer?
DE Nichols an automatic has TRANSMISSION FLUID and a FILTER you changed that and that is the complete service, you are done . a manual transmission has GEAR OIL, with no filter and that is the complete service .
James Anderson There is a separate gear box with it's own fluid on a automatic transmission. I've done what you mentioned many times for my automatic, but trust me, we are both surprised about a gear box existing as well with seperate fluid. When my CV axle seal broke water and transmission fluid came out....it must have been a junkyard replacement that got wet somehow before I bought the car.
He said every 50000kms or 40000mi but 40mi closer to 80km and 50km is 30mi. HM. I just got the stuff for mine at 90000kms but think I should have gone 50000kms
Yellow peter please tell me where to find the filling plugs on my Toyota Corolla hatchback gx 2008 because I just cant find them, mày be I looked at the wrong place. I have replaced the drivers axle and all the axle oil came out now I'm stuck now I have a NEW ZEALAND em right hand side drive car I'm hoping you can help most appreciated thank you kindly Rei
