When disassembling the new arm to fit the boot put a bit of electrical tape around the thread to indicate where you need to run the nut back up to after the boot is back on.
Nice job...just a tip... When putting the lug bolts screw in by hand a few threads before using an impact on it to avoid cross treadding . :) Love your vids
Probably the most in depth video ive watched on how to replace these. Im doing it on 2010 Ford Taurus, exact same concept though. I was worried about finding one of the special tools that was going to fit on the inner tie rod since the auto store rental tools don't fit my cars tie rods for one reason or another. After asking a ford tech how he did it and he told me he uses a crescent wrench for the inners, these are the kinds of videos I started watching. Its funny that the "professionals" dont even use recommended tools
Hi just a bit of advice when you put your wheel bolts back in best to start them off by hand as if you use a impact wrench to start with it may cross thread the bolts in the hub
Thnks for the awesome video ! One question - I have a Opel combo 1.3 cdti 2008 which needs a new inner steering rod. vin no is W0L0XCF2584379581 Im a little confused with what part is the correct one for the car. I see they come in a few different lengths (285/286mm, 315-6mm, 320-1mm ++), corresponding to different OEM numbers for the part.
good video had to cut my tie rod off my octavia to get off but I had bought the tool I can also use it on my daughters corsas if I need to keep them videos coming cheers
Excellent in depth video - camera work is great ! Just had my Saab Aero convertible inner and outer track rods done today plus new rubber covers As the car runs low on 17inch alloys - check 4 wheel alignment every six months Last time needed adjustment nuts seized solid ! Needed heat to move them ! Going to treat new tie rods with corrosion X every couple of months Pity no rubber boots available to protect nut from outer track rod end where it joins inner to stop it seizing again ? Thanks
Tip...when using a hammer to loosen the tie rod end put the nut back on loosely then if you miss and hit the tie rod end you will not damage the threads.
Hey James I hope you keeping safe I’ve been on euro car part trying to find the right one the Track Rod and Track Rod End and few different sizes like ‘ M12 and M14 just seeing if you no the right one thanks
Nice vid bud gotta do my lower ball joints tie rod ends inner and outer. Btw was that an electric impact gun you used at start of the vidoe ie a wired one as I was looking into getting 1 like that rather than having to carry a big bulky air compressor
Good video, you can buy a tie rod tool to make your life easier or use a crowfoot spanner set. Useful bit of kit to have. Also what's the tunes in the background, very mellow got me in the chill out mood
I have just completed this job on my car the job went ok it was awkward using a spanner but a pair of 9 inch mole grips removed them easily i did add some blue Loctite when fitting them and also where you put a spanner on the flats on the inner ball joint there is a little ring you need too knock down onto the flats on the steering rack this will also stop it coming undone.
just for another opinion I have Corsa C and I can't have the wheel alignment done because they claim that these need to be changed when i went to change them someone said I must change the whole steering rack,is that possible can't steering rack be repaired or the only solution is replacement and is it possible that the whole steering rack would need a replacement,I know you can't give your best opinion since you have not diagnosed the car yourself but I would appreciate anything.
If you crack of the nut to the outer tie rod end while it's still on the car it makes life a lot easier. Rather than using locking pliers and then cutting it off just for future reference mate
i need to replace the complete steering box. do I remove the universal joints inside the car before the firewall? note there is no power steering pump applicable, as it has a electrical steering. also do i have to drop the subframe under the engin as well? or can I just remove the rod ends and stabiliser?
Thanks for the info here. I would say .... cover up those threads with the nut and protect the end of track rod thread as a couple of MoTs ago, I missed and b*ggered the thread up. Cost me £13 for a new end. Grrr! :)
i saw that you struggle when breaking the nut on the tie rod and tie rod end. if you place the tie rod on a hard surface and hit the nut with a hammer a few times it should usually break the nut loose. I've used this technique many times and it's worked. hoped my advice helped you all
The rear coil springs on my corsa keep cracking/ breaking. Do you have any recommendations for a more permanent fixas opposed to getting them changed everytime?
When you put the lug nut/bolts back on you should put them on by hand first by a few threads then use the impact. Don't just put the lug nut in the socket and put it on that way. You can cross thread it. Ask me how I know lol but nice vid
Nothing wrong with the old rubbers and they only keep water etc out, so if they aren't cracked they are fine to reuse. Turns of the head = threads, and easy to check with nut in place also.
The part with the green cap is an anti-roll-bar drop-link bush. The anti roll bar is part of the car's suspension system that helps stop the car leaning when cornering. Ideally, the drop link should be replaced if its bush is cracked because when it does fail it will affect cornering.
Pre warning ⚠ I'm doing this on a 1.8 corsa at the moment and there is absolutely no room to move a 32mm spanner in the engine bay. I've had to order a tie rod tool
