Best video about light fitting on RU-vid and I've gone through loads in the past few days. That's what you call a step-by-step guide. Anyone can follow it and be successful. I'm a bloke but glad to see that it's a video done by a woman that's the best. Keep up the good work, sister.
There is nothing wrong with Blackberry phones. They are amazing for getting stuff done. Many videos on YT explaining why. This is a very simple circuit though.
Hi I have 2 browns in one then 3 browns in the middle then 3 blues on my ceiling old light fitting I’m wanting to put a pendent light up which one will be the switch wire ?????
Theres 3 wires in my livingroom ceiling so 3 live 3 neutral and 3 earth the guy wired up as so and its blowing the fuse and switch isnt working now.. any ideas?
02:07 A Blackberry - that ages it a bit! - Although this doesn't matter as the subject hasn't really changed in decades (although detectors are relatively modern). I'm guessing from the filename it was shot on the 28th of May, 2011 at 11:24 AM (I could be completely wrong). TBH I quite like the moving keyboard of the Blackberry, but it meant it was useless for watching films and things on.
Depends, if there is three blue the three brown and three green /yellow, one of the blues is the switch return and should be marked with a bit of brown sleeveing or brown insulating tape and that go to the opposite side to the neutrals. Basically you don't have a neutral at the switch
Inga Suskevic In the consumer unit switch the lights off only it is enought (make sure that ceiling rose is really without power). It's not handy to switch off whole house as you migh need some lamp supplied from socket outlet to have some light to see what you doing. I am sorry it's to late for advice I know
Unknown Another useless helper!!! The lady did not talk about light switch!!! She asked if the main one in consumer unit needs to be switched or only light circuit!!!
ok so ive tried this managed to disassemble and put up the new fitting! good. however im now left with 2 switch wires and i dont what to do now? where do they go?! your video doesn’t show this! ive now blown a fuse in my light switch because ive merged the live switch with the live cable port and the neutral switch wire with the neutrals. the light went on but the switch was off? and my fuse box activated to save me! disliked!
Very poor actually. The critical connecting phase beginning @ 3:05 rushes through w/o a close-up and also covers the wiring with the overlaying image. So, I for one never saw how the wires were connected and will have to look elsewhere.
@@Red23UK Still just a bunch of detracting overlays to me w/o the "fingers on" sequential clarity I would like in order to transfer from screen to my task.
Except, I have double the amount of wires in my ceiling and this video gives no clue how to wire the switch... “ensure no loose wires are left out of the terminal block” I wonder what she did with them? I notice this video didn’t show the light turning off.. lol
Khalifa Ubaid thanks for your reply. There were wires for the light and extractor fan. In the end a friend with electrical experience came to my rescue. :)
I watched many videos how to install new celling light before this one. 10 min after I watched this video I installed new celling light without any problems. Thank you for a great explanation! 😊
Excellent steps and easy to follow. I usually watch multiple videos but after watching this I don't need to watch another as It has everything covered. Thanks A+
Lots of comments here asking about switch live cables and how to wire the 'extra' neutral wire. Hope this comment helps. This is a great video for IRISH wired light fittings. There should be an earth/live/neutral and a separate 'shared' neutral which is run along all the other fittings in the house. I just installed my first light fitting after watching this video, and it works great. Just remember - turn off the power to the ENTIRE house, if you just switch the MCB for 'upstairs lights' or whatever it says on the CU, that doesn't mean there's not a live connection coming from somewhere else in the house, play safe, switch off the MAIN power. The 2 neutrals go into the ONE block, just like the video. Appreciate that's not always the way for foreign wired houses, but IRISH houses are 99.999% wired this way. You will be fine (y)
I'm just going to replace my plastic pendant with a new one exactly the same, I don't have the original screws and my ceilings have been re plastered, my question is can I just screw the new one up, or do I need rawl plugs? I'm not sure of the correct process so any tips would be great. Thanks
Firstly, you should not put electrical tape over the switch, as anyone can come along, remove the tape and turn on the power. Get a lock off device (a clamp that goes on the mcb and then you can fit your lock) but make sure you have key with you at all times. Secondly, why turn off the main switch? You will probably need some source of light whilst you're working (fed via the sockets).
If you don't turn the power off at the mains you will be working with live wires which will result in being electrocuted! The tape is just to remind anyone else in the house not to switch the power back on. I've had that happen when I was changing a plug socket, won't touch anything now unless everyone is out of the house completely.
Kas Georgiou You only need to switch off the circuit you’re working on, not the entire house, that is likely the reason someone in your household decided to switch it back on.
@@Gemzstone1 you can turn individual circuits off, ie hall lights, lounge lights, upstairs lights, plug sockets, cooker, boiler etc etc.. No need to turn off entire CU. Just the circuit you are working on…
Get a powerful battery operated workshop lamp to light the working area. They are pretty cheap and very useful if you have a power cut. Better safe than dead.
Seems to miss a crucial step ... That will kill if missed.....comfirm power is off with an approved test before handling any wires.... That breaker might be the wrong one.
because it accurately illustrates what a pain in the end it is and regardless of how clear it explains it, it's probably worth just getting an electrician to do it. That's my theory anyway.
That said, I have a friend that does this all the time in his house. I think pizza and beer is in order. THAT's how you change light fittings. (beer after, of course)
I have exactly the same set up. 1 earth, one live and 2 neutrals, so I put the 2 neutrals in the same hole on the light fitting block and now the lights in the living room and utility room won't come on!
Changing light fittings is illegal in Australia. Contact a licensed electrical fitter. Your insurance will be voided if faults occur from illegal electrical fitting. Not ideal, but I don’t want to see any Aussies get in trouble.
Hi can you help? I have the old red & Black I was about the change the light but I have noticed the red goes into Blue and Black goes into Brown. The light still works and l also have 2 switch’s. Any ideas
