How To: Change Oil CRF250L

Great vid Brother very to the point I'm confident I could do my oil change after watching.

On your next oil change check the condition of filter housing bolts. If they are any longer then they should be, and/or have visible deformation replace them. Many had them broken by using a torque wrench. Specific torque isnt really neccessary on that part, you can just feel it snug, do a 1/8th or 1/4 turn more and you are done, if it doesnt leak (which it wont) its good. Same can be done on the drain bolt too, though you are safe to use torque wrench there since its stronger bolt, if you buy one of those magnetic bolts, do not use torque wrench anymore, do it by feel, they are hollow/ 2 component (magnet) and less strong then stock so they break more easily. Also its very easy to remove the plastic skid plate when doing this, makes things easier and less messy. And dont try to reach top line when you check oil level, go for the middle. If you go top line or slightly above oil might be splashed through breather hose into airbox and into that transparent drain tube on the left side of the bike under the seat, visible from behind. Been there done that, if it happens take some oil out with small diameter hose, through filling port as soon as you notice it, and empty drain tube deposit (oil), and empty again after few thousand miles (should be drop or 2 then if you took excessive oil out immediately).

Remember your always allowed to change the oil More than they say. I'm about to do my 2nd oil and filter change and Im at 700 miles which is like 1000 k/m and it's already dirty in the sightglass... Edit: I also just changed my coolant using the oem blue Honda stuff and I'm about to change the brake fluid also. It's a 2017, all the fluids 5 years old even though the bike had 450 miles when I got it last week. Everything is due for replacement after that much age.

If you need someone to show you the window with oil in it after the procedure you probably shouldnt be doing it in the first place lol.

You can reused the drain plug washer - just twist it a *tiny* bit to make it like a wave washer then install it. I have done this for dozens of various motorcycle for many many years and never had a leak. 6:15 you are holding the oil bottle 180 degrees upside down. The pour spout should be at the top.

Nice video mate, I have a magnetic sump plug, I don’t use a torque wrench on it incase it snaps in the sump.

Just did my first oil change on my 2017 CRF250L at 465 miles. Is it recommended to replace the drain bolt washer? I did not. Haven’t seen any leakage but will keep an eye on it. New sub.

I'd suggest putting the oil filter on the engine side of things before putting the. Cover and gasket on. Don't just put the filter in the cover and pop it on. I bought a tusk oil change kit with an aftermarket filter and the rubber seal pushed into the oil filter when trying to push it on the engine. I had to reuse the oem Honda seal in the tusk filter. I wouldn't have noticed if I just popped it on

Just didn't my first oil change using this video as a guide.. torqued oil casing to 9 ft lb and bolts broke..

How about letting us know what oil, gasket and washer!

you didint meanten, is the oil window midline on side stant or held level ??

It doesn’t say to change the gasket in the manual.

Never do this just on the side stand as there will be oil 'downhill' from the drain hole and unless clearly stated in the manual have the bike upright and fill by looking at the sight glass and not just what the book says. Why did you keep going after the click of the torque wrench? As soon as the torque is achieved and it 'breaks' that's the stop point.

Doesn't changing your own oil at 1000 km invalidate your 2 year warranty?

Where did you get the new gasket and crush washer from? The dealer? Autozone? Online? I just got this bike and I’m due for my first oil change in 300mi so I’m trying to prepare

We need to put the bike on the center lift/stand to do oil change?

When the torque wrench clicks over that’s when you stop. If you go past the click it’s now over torqued.

Is this a 2018? and if so what oil did you use

Is engine and gearbox oil separate on these?

Is that the stock gauge cluster?

Why you were cut most importand parts?

Is it 10w40?
