Showing your video to my daughter before she learns to do an oil change on her Cruz. Just a tip from an old guy who's done a lot of oil changes: Take the drain plug out first then take oil fill cap off. This way you don't get that splash of fast-moving oil when plug is removed, makes for less of a mess. Thanks for video.
awesome, I just got my first car and its a 2011 chevy Cruze as well. trying to learn how to do my own oil change just to save couple of dollars. this was great help. now for the oil drain plug, what size was the wrench? a 10 millimeter wrench? and then the same size wrench for the air filter which is a 24 millimeter. I don't want to buy a full tool kit, just the two wrenched needed for the oil filter and drain plug haha
Congratulations on your first car!! Yes, a 10mm wrench (or socket) for the oil plug, and 24mm for the oil filter. You may find the 24mm near the oil section at the store, and an oil filter socket is typically cheaper than a regular socket of that size if you're looking to save some money.
@@ShamShammie do you oil filter? Air filter you can typically open by hand. The oil filter can we done with a pliers or adjustable wrench, but is pretty difficult to reach with either of those. A socket with an extention is definitely going to be the easiest.
Just a tip, the Cruze has a confusing dipstick. The lower section hash-mark is the low and high level not the other lines that you would think. That comes from the owners manual. Cheers
Odd to see a cartridge-type oil filter, I'm used to seeing those more on European cars. Thanks for showing an easy to do task that most people take for granted. With a few simple hand tools, if you have the mechanical know-how a self done oil change can save you tons of money over the life of your car / truck.
I agree. I believe this was the first American made vehicle I've seen with this type filter. I'm sure there's others, I just haven't run into them yet.
If u know it takes 4 quarts then why would u start the car ? Why not add oil if it looks like it's not full ? I thought u check oil when it's cold ? I'm curious.
Because it actually takes 4.2 quarts. .2 can be hard to estimate. And while I left the drain out until it stopped, you rarely actually get all the oil out. But how much was left in? By running it a short time, you get the filter full, and then you can see if it's full. I'd rather add a little more than over fill it.
is it ok to get kind of a crazy engine noise for like 5 seconds after starting the engine back up Im assuming from the engine not having oil pressure in the filter and perhaps like air running through the engine making the tickers sounds awful? This happens everytime I do it for like 4 5 seconds after starting the car back up but goes away
As long as goes away within a few seconds, I wouldn't worry about it. Having just drained all the oil out, it will take a few seconds to get good lubrication again.
What kind of oil does the car take 5w 30 but synthetic right? This little car oil change is very expensive 80 bucks for this cars oil change do I have to use synthetic oil?
You don't have to use synthetic if you don't want. Conventional oil is fine. Typically synthetic is more expensive, but you can go longer between oil changes. Helping to even out the cost.
With the ignition on, press the DIC button on the signal light until you get to oil life. Press the set/clr button to reset oil life to 100%, then press it again to confirm.
