Hi John, yes very VERY brave doing it on the side stand, although it’s very difficult doing it with the centre stand down. The oil capacity is 1.3 litres so you can always tip the whole of the first litre bottle in assuming you’ve drained all the oil (which you had done). The next step should be to run the engine for about 15 seconds or so to circulate the oil through the engine and filter, and then let it settle before you measure the oil level with the dipstick screwed in all the way (it doesn’t have to be tight), and top up as necessary. It is VERY important not to overfill.
Hey John. Nice video. I just use a pipe wrench for the olie filter, then there is no need for the exhaust to come off.. 😃...And you are kinda brave to use the side stand when working on the vespa 😰😰
I want to thank you for your excellent tutorials on the Vespa GTS 300. You are a fantastic teacher and you have shown the steps and procedures in a very clear way. Though if it’s ok with you I think I will put ALL my parts back in when I do the belt and rollers before refitting the cover. Lol. Love it x on a point of interest to me did you notice any improvements going from the standard rollers? Thanks again Dave
Hi Dave, and thanks for the nice comment. Yes the rollers did a big difference, I would recommend 12gr instead of my 13gr, if not you need to install an extra washer.
I know you used a torque wrench but.....it should never be necessary to use mechanical means to install an oil filter. Once the filter contacts the base, no more than one more turn by hand and you are set. You even mentioned that you got it to tight the first time!
I'm looking at a GTV 300 in the states and I wanted to see if the maintenance was going to be a headache. Compared to my Honda Elite 110 it is (no filter or muff removal) but, how can I be a real scooter rider without owning a Vespa once in my life. Very nice vid but, my only comments would be...Change oil every 1000 miles, fill your filter half way and spin until oil is absorbed, to pre-prime the filter, and reduce topping off.
Thanks for the comment. You don't really need to take the muffler off, if you use some other tools to remove the filter. Good tip to prime the filte. Will do that next time.
Great video! Every how many kms do you change your oil? Have you ever noticed any oil consmtion between changes? I have almost the same engine but fitted on aprlia sr max.
Hi there. I'm sorry to let you down, but I sold the GTS last year. I change the oil every autumn, so it has fresh oil before the winter comes. I did not notice any oil consumption when I had it.
have you modified your rear/front shock?? would love to see the video as I myself planning to change my front/rear suspensions... theres only 1 video in youtube i saw regarding this ..but not to detailed... anyways..have a nice day.
