Excellent video. Thank you! One small note, the torque is measured in foot-pounds (ft-lbs), not pound-foot-pounds (lbs-ft).

Yea, I know the Toyota owner’s manual says so but there is negligible difference between 75w85 and 75w90 gear oil. So why not use the same for all three?

Thank you! Yes this was a new to me 4Runner. Undercoated it this year to help prevent any further corrosion. Thank you for watching and be sure to check out my other 4Runner maintenance videos on my channel if you are interested!

@@5MinuteFixit you’re welcome. I use corrosion x aviation inside of the frame and fluid film/ surface shield outside.

@@Mrguitarcraze I tried PB Blasters new “surface shield” and I’m happy with it so far. Do you use or have a recommendation for a wand/device for getting inside the frame rails?

since we don't use 4wd often (couple time per year), would the fluid in the front diff be in better shape? I did the rear at 50k, was thinking at 100k miles do both and the transfer case.

How many mile done , before to change oli? On video oil so clear as glass, may be no need to change original oil...

I'm a new 4Runner owner.. When I hear differential, I think. four-wheel drive exclusively. Is the rear differential on all the vehicles, including the two-wheel drive? Is this a new service I didn't prepare for? I'm all ready to drop the transmission pan, put a new filter in, etc... Should I be doing this too? The manual is useless in telling me anything useful. "Go see a Toyota dealer" is NOT a maintenance schedule ☹️

Both 2 and 4 wheel drive 4Runners have a rear differential, so either way your vehicle has at least the rear one. 4WD 4Runners have a front diff., transfer case/center diff and also a rear differential. Hopefully this helps. I have videos on all three as well as many other maintenance videos on 4Runners on my channel if you are interested! Thank you for watching and please consider giving the video a thumbs up if you haven’t already! Thank you!

I've already given that ol' thumbs up and subscribed! I started with Scotty and Peter, found Ahmed and, with this latest purchase, found you! This is my project car of sorts although I paid way too much in this horrible market for used cars. I was already to drop the pan and do the filter and a refill on this 83,000 mile 2014 SR5, I guess I'll be buying some more gaskets to do the rear differential. The car was definitely neglected, I'm hoping nothing permanent. I hope this will be the car I die in. Many years from now, of course. Now I have to figure out how to drop the spare tire with my third row model... 🙁

Good luck with the vehicle, I’m sure it will treat you well. So far I’ve had good luck with mine. I bought mine used with about same miles as yours. I have a video on dropping the spare tire, I wasn’t aware it was different on a model with a 3rd row. Anyway, thank you for the thumbs up and for subscribing I appreciate it!

Thanks for the video, informative and concise. I can't find in the owners manual what the recommended interval is for changing the diff and transfer case fluids. Any help here would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hey not to be annoying but in order to hit the right torque, you have to place your hand where the smooth line is on the wrench handle, in between the knurling. Otherwise you are either over or under torquing depending on hand placement. Just a tip. Thanks for the video, very helpful!
